Non LFC summer transfer thread

That is a mental bid from Arsenal. But atleast they are trying to capitalize on the fact that they challenged for the league.

They’ve now apparently submitted a new bid of £100m + £5m in add ons.

Hairy Pep clone be needing the wallet open!!!

At least they are frittering away their money!

We came within inches of having the greatest season for any club and then we did this in the transfer window.

It’s tempting to think we sort of wrapped up the Mac Allister deal last summer - in that we enquired, Brighton weren’t keen on a sale, but given he was in his final year their hands were sort of tied, but he didn’t want to risk a move in the lead up to a World Cup - so a compromise was strict where he’d sign a new deal with the £35m release clause and he’d sign for us.

It feels like we got the deal done too quickly and too easily - I’m totally shocked that no-one else was on it at the price we got him for - which given the prices for Caciedo, Rice - even Maddison FFS - are being quoted at, we got a great deal.

It might explain why we went for Arthur on loan and didn’t look for another midfielder in Jan.

It doesn’t mean we don’t need at least another midfielder - which would effectively be the alternative to the failed Bellingham plan.

I highly doubt we had the Mac Allister deal wrapped up last summer. We were still in the "only human being on the planet who can play in our midfield is Bellingham" mode. We had no clue how bad Fabinho, Henderson were going to stink the season out.

More than likely - but we were kind of linked, I think, and Mac does seem to be more of a Thiago replacement, whereas Bellingham likely more the right sided midfielder (probably).

It’s also tempting to want to believe that the Valverde for £77m rumours are true and that him & Mac represent what we would have had to spend to sign Bellingham.

I think even the axis of crazy would be pacified if we started next season with Valverde & Mac Allister as our central midfield - that’s a decent combo.

Pity Valverde is bullshit.

When we put our minds to it we seem to find deals but it takes way too long, McAllister / Konate / Gakpo / Diaz etc you’d probably have to say were signed for well below what others were paying at the time. The easy fix is to be looking under rocks and in the reduced bin either constantly or much earlier by identifying deficiencies sooner.

Basically look for players like my ma shops

To be fair Gakpo and Diaz seemed to be pretty rapid transfers they’re just an example of decent value. The other two are good deals after ages spent trying to find a CM and a CB where we should’ve been looking sooner.

Gakpo and Diaz we shat ourselves because they might not last til the summer. Whether we would actually buy them in the summer is a different argument. I don't know whether we try to capitalise on January for "bargains" (even though they're rarely found), as other teams don't want to disrupt their own sides.

Yea i realised they didn’t suit what i was trying to demonstrate after i posted it, i kind of like what happened with them though. We had them up our sleeves and purchased when it was realised the opportunity was closing. The bargains are rare but it definitely feels like we do find them only after having a meltdown in that particular position.

Re Diaz, Spurs agreed a fee so we acted quickly and moved for our summer target, and signed him. We actually did a good thing there.

We did a decent thing, but he's not been a transformative purchase. He's direct, which is nice, but I'm hoping he kicks on this season and stays fit

He was excellent prior to his injury last season. The club never gets any credit anymore for the good it does though, that has to be said.

FFP is dead and when UEFA relaxes the rules for multi club ownership as well we can all kiss goodbye to football as we know it, or used to know it.

In other words they made a bid to make Arsenal pay even more then. That price is insane for Rice. Insane.

Not at all my friend, we’ll all be dressing up in Sheik outfits, cursing the day FSG ever bought us and praising on new sugar daddies as they plot our course galactico stardom.

Praise us as we win the Turnover trophy and set a new highest net spend record!!!

Hurrah!!!

Huge fee, but he'll be very good for them. Exactly what they need in midfield

Yeah, perfect Arsenal signing. Overpriced and overrated.

He's a huge huge improvement on a) Partey and b) xhaka.
Physically imposing, comfortable on the ball, serious engine and a leader.
If we were signing him, I'd be ecstatic.
Overpriced? Maybe - it really depends on what they do with him ... If they win a league or CL, it will be well worth it.

A good player that will do well for them, but I guess City will still swoop in.

Overpriced of course. And by quite a bit. But Chelsea fucked that up with Enzo and the rest.
