no Hengo?

He won't be sold because we don't have the money to replace him, and that's likely just agent/journo talk. But there is also no way he should be getting a new deal at this point, next summer is soon enough to look at his position in the squad and where he goes from here.

He'd be 33 when the current deal runs out and not likely to get anything close to his current salary. Its better for him to renegotiate now from a position of strength but the club has no real need to do so. Next year we probably move Milner on and transition Hendo into that role within the squad. Which will certainly mean a short term deal on reduced wages.

Salah, Mané, Firmino, Virgil and Fabinho all have 2 years left to run on their contracts. I'd prioritize resolving all of those ahead of Hendo.

Would be a huge mistake. But lizards will be lizards. I suspect we'll sell him and not get anyone in.

From Neil Jones, GOAL:

It is unlikely, however, that Henderson would be allowed to leave this summer, or indeed that he would even ask to. Sources insist there is still a dialogue in place with Liverpool, with further talks anticipated over a new deal for the midfielder, whose current contract expires in 2023.

No doubting his leadership qualities and is undoubtedly invaluable to us but he was injured for the last 3 months for us and couldn't get up to full fitness with England.

I'd say we keep him until his contract expires and then offer him a further year, if he refuses then he's free to go.

Who knows what kind of contract he's looking for at the end of his current 1 but I don't see anyone being offered a 4 year contract when they're 33.

The mood here...

Just give him what he wants ffs he’s a talisman that every team needs and we’re fucking lucky to have him, we’d be lost without him.

It's a tricky one, he obviously will want to stay on top dollar, we don't want a cheerleader on the bench/physio table on top dollar.

Let him stay for another year and then sell him to AC Milan or someone.

Meh, his best days in a red shirt are behind him.

Arise Curtis Jones!

Meh, his best days are behind him so lets elevate a largely mediocre youngster instead. Great logic, as per.

If anyone thinks selling Hendo now is a good idea, after the shite season we've just had and on top of losing Gini, you need your heads examining. The idiocy on this forum never ceases to shock me.

I'm inclined to agree, and as everyone knows there has been times when I haven't been a great supporter of Henderson. But now isn't the time to be selling a 31 year old captain of a football club.

We’re definitely losing Milner next year Id imagine. So keeping Henderson around for a few more years will be important to us. Particularly a player that has lifted the PL, CL, and Club World Cup as captain of LFC.
His experience and mentality will be vital in bringing through the younger players too.

We handed Thiago something a 200k contract aged 29, which will have certainly impacted contract talks with both Henderson and Wijnaldum, IMO.

That was the first time we've ever really gone against our buying policy/contract policy, and this is likely a ramification.

Okay, this was all you needed to know that it was a slow news day:

Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Jordan Henderson, should stalled contract talks with Liverpool end in him leaving the club as early as this summer (Daily Star)

Liverpool made Hendo the player he is today not the other way around.

Liverpool stuck by him when he was failing under Kenny and his first few seasons under Rodgers.

Liverpool picked him to takeover the armband from Gerrard after he left.

We're lucky to have him???? If anything he's lucky to have us.

It's been mutually beneficial. He didn't struggle for Rodgers 'first few seasons'. Since mid way through Rodgers' first season he has been a very important part of the team.

I think this winter or next summer is the time to be renegotiating. I'd like him to stay but we can't be giving huge money to him up to the age of 35 or 36.

Maybe its lucky we had each other? He has won us some major honours.

I can see why he'd want Thiago money. But I can also see why the club are thinking nope!!

It's a tricky one. But one thing is for sure if I was in charge. He goes nowhere.
