I think that was one of the best goals/moments in football I've witnessed in a long time.

Lucas wins plays it (on the edge of our box) wide to Kuyt, Kuyt with a BRILLIANT ball inside to return to Lucas, and then a nicely weighted through ball, and that finish was just exquisite, a 'proper' striker's finish.

I really like this lad.

Me to at first I thought oh here we go another cheap French lad.
But he seems to be getting better and better all the time plus learning from and playing with torres will do him good, I hope he has an important season for us and scores alot of goals 8)

It could prove to be a career-defining moment - he took that goal very calmly (and thank God it went in!). He should look at some DVDs of Ian Rush closing players down - he was ambling far too much when Ferdinand and Co were passing the ball around - but it's encouraging to see him get through these tests.

Good finish but at the moment I just don't think he has enough to make it at this level.

He seems to lack that extra needed in overall play, but get him in the penalty area and he seems quite predatory with his finishing.

I'll say it again, there's something about him that I've always thought would allow him to make it. I'm not sure to what level, but he always seems to be in the right area to score goals ... and yes, it's late in the game but it's goals. I really think he's a very good reserve striker at the moment and to think he cost so little.

It was one of the few times Ive ever found myself completely agreeing with Andy Gray. I think sometimes its easy to over-emphasise one off moments in football, but the goal was so well taken, and must be such a confidence boost for the lad that it could really kick start his Liverpool career. Had he missed it it would have been a hammer blow to his self belief.

Amussing to see Torres jumping with joy at the quality of NgOgs finish, whilst Voronin sat po faced....

+1

I had people in the pub in the first ten minutes of the game, pointing at my Liverpool shirt and asking "Who the fuck is N'gog?!"

"You'll see" I said. Ah it was ace.

His a confident & composed finishet, that's for sure, and he's good at winning the ball in the air. I don't see a world-beater in him but he could develop into a very handy squad player in the next few years. £1.5M for a french U21 striker was always going to prove a bit of a bargain.

He has the ability to calmly place the ball into the corner of the net. Similar to the goal he scored at Leeds, where he turned around and placed the ball.

This is me being totally honest, I don't think he'll ever be good enough to play regularly for us.

He's a handy player to have in the squad cos he seems to have that knack to be in the right place at the right time.

However, I don't see anything particularly outstanding from him. He has little pace, little strength, doesn't work hard, looks ungainly on the ball, his running off the ball is probably his best asset, but his finishing is erratic to say the least.

At some stage he will want first team football, and he'll move back to mid-tier french club, which is really his level.

That assessment isn't correct at all.

Do explain.

Well, pretty much everything is wrong apart from the "ungainly on the ball" part.

He's not erratic with his finishing, when he gets the chance he usually puts it away; however he creates little chances for himself because his movement off the ball requires a lot of work. He's not slow like you make out and is quick enough for defenders not to catch up with him. He's strong enough to win the majority of headers in the air. The fact is he's often played as a lone striker - probably the hardest task for any youngster to pull off- means being out muscled by 3 to 4 defenders, as we saw agaisnt Lyon, is hardly room for criticism.

He's young and has a long way to go, but he's nowhere near as poor as you make out.

I was a doubter however Rafa keeps giving him a crack of a whip and he's bringing back solid performances and some goals considering he's got age on his side, he's a prospect.

I just don't think he has any thing that is special about him at all.

He's like a young Trezeguet, but not quite as good.

I'm not N'gog's biggest fan but he took the goal very well, especialy when you consider he had an awfully long time to think about it.

I wanted to say "without the finishing ability" which would've made more sense, but tbf to the lad I have just checked too, his goal to game ratio is quite decent for a young striker.

Woould've been harsh.

Hmmmm "Not quite as good as Trezeguet". Must be fucking shite then 😱

Ahhh so now we are clear. "He's like Trezeguet but without the finishing ability but scores quite a lot"

Wait a bit. dossena may change his opinion again once he views a few more stats.

Talk about finding fault for the sake of it...

He has a nice little move/piece of skill too, like Torres has the slow down then accelerate leaving the defender for dead, like Gerrard has his bursting runs coming from deep,N'gog has that use his strength to shield the defender and turn him like he did for the Leeds goal which Drogba seems to do quite alot, i've noticed him using it a few times this season, I reckon he'll score quite a few goals like it across his career.

Truth is whoever we have upfront is going to be a pale shadow of the beast that walks among mortal men... Torres.

N'Gog showed a few nice skillful touches against Lyon the other night without ever really threatening, his took his goal really well yesterday and whether he makes it at Anfield or not fair fucks to him for that.

He isn't going to be a superstar, that much is clear to us all.
But when he gets his chances he takes them, by and large.
He has scored in the Champions League, Carling Cup and The Premiership.

As he was through on goal yesterday I remembered a similar situation against PSV in the CL last year, he had time to pick his spot and he didn't panic at all, he was calm and clinical. Same again yesterday.

One thing is for sure, I'd rather see us develop Ngog that gave that fucking prick Voronin any more playing time.

Perhaps a little harsh, but I'm inclined to agree.

He is anything but a 'cool and calm finisher', that's for sure. For the most part, he seems anything but composed when an opportunity presents itself. That's not to say he can't improve - his touch in general appears decent, but it seems to desert him somewhat when he's in and around the opposition penalty area. He loses the ball far too frequently for my liking anyway.

Still, it was a nicely taken goal and he hardly cost anything so any return is a good return I guess. I expect we'll make a modest profit on him in a couple of years.
