NFL Thread 2013-2014

Ohio State cling on to the number two spot ahead of Auburn. Michigan State will have to beat them to let Auburn into the national title game now.

Still, the consolation prize will be watching Ohio State get destroyed on the biggest stage of all. Assuming Jameis Winston doesn't get charged. Jesus, if he he is suspended and Ohio State win the national title, I'm just going to pretend this year didn't happen. Or, hope that Alabama remain 4th, qualifying automatically for the BCS, and that the Sugar Bowl take Auburn as SEC champions and then select Alabama as an at large, and pretend the rematch is the national title game. I think the Orange Bowl has first pick though, so it'll be Clemson-Alabama probably. Which sounds alright. And Auburn-UCF. Which doesn't. Okie State vs N. Illinois sounds even worse. Be another year where the Cotton and Capital One bowls look more enticing than some of the BCS games.

In Gator news, Pearse has been sacked as offensive co-ordinator, so it looks like Muschamp is getting another year. They'll have to do something rather special on offence.

Not sure how many weeks Auburn's luck is gonna last. Not sure if Winston can stay outta jail long enough. Not sure Ohio can beat Michigan State.

So, bedlam would be Sparty beating OSU, Missouri winning the SEC, and either Duke beating FSU (unlikely) or Winston being charged and suspended. Mizzou for the national title? I can get behind that.

The thing I like about Mizzou over auburn is that at least they're not fluking their way to victory. Their defense is solid, and they look strong as fuck. The way Auburn are playing cant continue.

Well, yeah, but I don't know if you can call it a fluke. I mean, they came from 21-7 down to be level at 27-27 with one second to go against the defending back-to-back champions and current number one side. That they scored on an unbelievable play to win the game doesn't mitigate the fact they were holding their own. The Georgia result was more fortunate as they were losing and the ball game came down to one toss up. But they call it a Hail Mary for a reason.

I think the two teams are pretty well matched. Should be a good game.

Of course, maybe all of the SEC coaches can drop OSU out of their rankings completely, see if that lets the SEC champions go past them in the polls...

And there should end the 'What's Russell Wilson like on the big stage' debate for a while. For. the. win.

That Seahawks defense is fucking scary. They're fanatical back there.

Home advantage is taking them to the Superbowl fo sho.

IF the Cowboys get there, and play them, we'll beat them. It will be Romo's coming of age party considering that is where all the mess started!

You know, not to sound like a homer, but I would not be surprised at all if that happened.

Followed by a monumental blowup in the next round of course.

If we get to the playoffs, we'll be very dangerous ... I am not in the 'we'll get to the playoffs' boat yet, but I think if we beat the Bears on MNF, we'll do it especially if Rodgers won't be playign the rest of the year (scheduled for more tests)

2 things running against you:

1 - Injuries, Lee out indefinitely, and questions marks over Ware, Bryant and others fucking kill you.
2 - Romo's balls. Let's see how much they shrivel come serious playoff time.

Well in fairness the Seahawks balls usually shrink fairly rapid come playoff time too.
Get the feeling they are a different beast this season though.

1 - Lee should be back against Da Bears. Ware is a question mark, but the defensive line has done well without him (bar one horrible performance in the Bayou). Bryant is having problems with holding onto the balls, but he's still a TD machine and comes to play in prime time.
2 - Romo has had a poor December record yes, but his 4th quarter ratings (this season and career) is amongst the best. IHe's very good QB, but until he manages to win a few more playoff games, he'll always have the tag (rightly or wrongly).

Yeah, Rod Bramblett has done as well as anyone out of this. ESPN have been playing the clip wall to wall. I love his mate freaking out in the background, and "they're not gonna to keep them off the field tonight."

Heh, nothing lucky about Auburn this week. They did manage to score 36123872905732 points.

They really deserve to be in the championship game at this point against Florida State.

Ohio State doesn't deserve to be there for me, that schedule is incredibly soft. I don't think a whole lot of people would go out of their way to see an FSU Ohio State championship game.

...and Ohio State loses! We get a pretty entertaining matchup of FSU Auburn in the championship game.

Now the question is, who gets to go to New York? Winston is going to run away with the Heisman unless something drastic changes in the near future, and Manziel probably gets an invite, but who else?

I'm thinking Tre Mason might have just forced himself into the discussion.

Thank fuck for Sparty.

Mason will get a lot of hype this week, but Andre Williams had a better season and is arguably more important to his team. Dude ran for over 2100 yards, but he's not in the papers right now so might not get a shout.

I think they'll probably only invite three. Winston had this a while ago. I'm not even sure Manzirl gets an invite. A&M tailed off and I don't see him figuring at all. Before yesterday I'd have said Jordan Lynch would be invited, but Northern Illinois lost. It would be a massive turnaround if he dropped out and Mason came in. Lynch was polling second in the straws and Mason has been nowhere, but in a year when players have constantly derailed themselves he has a decent shot. McCarron might get an invite as he's a fixture in the polls and the way Alabama lost wasn't on him. Lynch will probably slip below him on many ballots.

This snow storm in Philly is just crazy.
Going to be fumble happy across the league tonight.

Detroit Lions choke fest.
I'm not in the slightest bit surprised though.

so fucking pissed ... they had that game won and then give 200+ yards up of rushing in the FOURTH QUARTER.

Now dallas must beat Chicago Monday night ... and have Aaron Rodgers next week ... fuck

Is Rodgers definitely back next week?
McCoy basically ripped a new one into that so called top class defence.
This Ravens Vikings game is amazing too.

Ha amazing throw into the back of the end zone from Flacco.
Great catch too.
That 4th quarter was amazing.

This is ridiculous.
Patriots recover an onside kick with a minute on the clock to win again.
That pass interference call was extremely harsh though.
Brady is still the man though.
