New Manager?

another aspect for a top manager is would they come on a short term contract because once the club changes hands the new owners may well want their own guy in charge.

Masher isn't shy of assassinating the opposition when he has to. 8) As for Momo, he's tailed off a bit lately, but they do mostly rate him.

Neil, helpful hint no.94: when contributing to the more lively thread, take notice of the red writing which sometimes appears above what you've typed when you first try and post. 😉

Oh shit, yeah.

When the Chinese gambling consortium arrive and install Maradona, it'll be a real slap in the face for whoever is foolhardy enough to take the job now.

that's why I think kenny will do it.

a) the knows the place
b) he knows the expectations of the club
c) he knows the league
d) already on the payroll - a yank plus point
e) the players respect him - you'd think
f) when the club changes hands he can go back to his old job without buying him out of his contract

a source close to pellegrini mentioned he has an offer from fenerbache but would be interested in the vacant role at our club. Kenny should get on it asap

Good one. A well regarded La Liga manager who, OK, has no experience of English football but is interested in the job and has been questionably treated by his previous club - looks like a good bet, eh?

I don't have the best of feelings regarding Pellegrini or most other foreign managers that is.

I think we'd best go British now if we don't have the chance to sign a world-class foreign replacement. I don't think Pellegrini is one of them.

I would like to see Pellegrini at a club like Valencia or A Madrid. Good clubs with some good talent and see how he goes.
I think he did well at Villareal and didn't do bad at Real either despite their early CL knock out.

He did more than alright for Real, he actually got the highest win percentage ever... But got fired, that says a lot really.

Yeah, but it says a lot about that shithouse Real.

I just had a thought that the reason that we are in no hurry to appoint a new manager could be that the No 1 target is still gainfully employed but may well be available after the World Cup finishes.

Marcello Lippi perhaps or one of the other international team managers.
Just a thought...............

Lippi certainly fits the bill, and if Rafa is appointed as Inter boss, there won't be any jobs in Italy with any appeal to him.

Please let us get him..

Houllier tips Hodgson for Anfield hotseat
Article added: June 6th, 2010

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier says he would be “delighted†for Roy Hodgson if he took over at Anfield.

Houllier, who left Liverpool in 2004 when Rafa Benitez was appointed, also says Liverpool remain a big club, with big players.

The Frenchman said “Roy has done very well with an average team at Fulham. I would be delighted if he could coach Liverpool in his career as he deserves it. He’s used to coaching stars. Don’t forget he was at Inter Milan as well.â€

Meanwhile, Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer says he wouldn’t blame Hodgson if he took up the challenge at Liverpool. He said “The gaffer is at that stage of this career where he is thinking ‘will this sort of opportunity come around again?’

“I suppose in a lot of ways you can’t blame the guy if an opportunity like this came along.

“It is Liverpool you are talking about, a huge club, who normally compete in the Champions League every season.

“There are four or five such clubs in the country and there would be very few managers or players who would find it difficult to resist going to them.â€

“We hope he doesn’t go, we hope he stays at Fulham. But I wouldn’t blame him at all if he decides to move.â€

Hodgson has emerged as one of the main contenders to take up the vacant manager’s position at Anfield.

I certainly agree with the "could be that the no.1 target is still gainfully employed" bit, though it could just as easily be a club manager still under contract. At the very least we need to take time to consider carefully who our no.1 target actually is, not just pick from who's currently available or interested. There's also the ownership question to consider - we'll need to offer the new guy some certainty on that front. To me this all adds up to Kenny taking the reins for now.

As far as Lippi is concerned, he'll definitely be free - he's already said he'll retire after the WC, and I believe the Italian FA have already appointed Cesare Prandelli to take his place until the next WC in 2014. If he's interested, he has to be worth consideration.

Lippi has also expressed a desire to manage in the Premiership apparently (haven't they all).

He might be, as Vantage says 150, (the Trapp who is a good bit older is doing a fine job with Rep of Ireland) and only managed in Italy but he has an outstanding CV and might turn out to be more of an Ancellotti than a Raneiri. I certainly wouldn't say no as the current list of likely canidates doesn't exactly set the heart racing

Nah, he runs with his head down all the time. Not manager material IMO.

Nah, I thought they were going to offer that job to someone with connections to the club. Lippi has managed Inter and Juve, so he might find himself out of that one. Aren't they after Marco Van Basten?
