Interview from last week.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed he recently turned down an offer to take up a post at Celtic.

Former Italy and Juventus boss Trapattoni has been linked with an advisory position at the Scottish club, with Celtic set to make an announcement over their managerial opening.

Neil Lennon is the hot favourite to take up the role after guiding the club to eight back-to-back Scottish Premier League wins following Tony Mowbray's dismissal in March.

However, Lennon is lacking managerial experience, which could prompt the Parkhead club to appoint a more experienced director of football as a solution.

But 71-year-old Trapattoni insists he is not the man for that post, and that he is committed to leading the Republic to Euro 2012.
Committed

"It was not the Celtic chairman, but someone close to him, close to the club, a former player, who approached me three to four months ago and asked would I be interested in a position," said Trapattoni, who also turned down an approach from Juve earlier this year.

"But I say no, I am with Ireland. I also had two or three teams ask me in Italy, and two English teams.

"I told them all the same answer - that I am with Ireland."

Reports on Sunday suggested Lennon, who has been assisted by former Hoops colleague Johann Mjallby so far, was against having an unfamiliar aide.

But the former Celtic captain seemed open to the idea on Thursday when he said: "If I do get the job, maybe I would like an older head to bounce ideas off. It is a possibility if the outcome is positive."Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed he recently turned down an offer to take up a post at Celtic.

When I win the euromilions draw for the fifth week in a row and buy LFC from the Yanks at a giveaway price, I will make it my priority to have Trapp as our next manager.

It shows he's got balls.

I want him and anything else will be a let down, probably.

I want Didi on the coaching staff. I've no idea if he'd be any good, but he's awesome.

Oh, and I'd actually like moyes, but it's as close to impossible as you can get after fergie.

Didi took over at MK Dons if I'm not mistaken?

First team coach, I think. Incidentally he was on the Academy staff before MK came in for him. I'm hopeful he'll be back one day, once he's learned the ropes at first team level.

I know he's there but not sure in what capacity?
[/quote]

Player-coach I believe.

There are reports that Italy boss Marcello Lippi is Liverpool’s target to replace Rafa Benitez.

The 2006 World Cup winner has already confirmed he will leave his post after the tournament in South Africa, making way for Cesare Prandelli.

This week Liverpool terminated their contract with Benitez by mutual consent, so they are on the look-out for a new Coach.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Lippi represents the kind of solidity and success rate that the new Anfield owners are looking for.

His presence would also help guarantee that stars such as Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will stay on at the club.

The newspaper claims that both Liverpool legends Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush would support this appointment.

Lippi has always said that he would like an experience in the Premier League and that he wouldn’t accept another Serie A job after the Azzurri.

http://www.football-italia.net/jun06f.html

Lippi would be a fucking dream appointment. He's one of my favourite managers ever, and as an international manager he has prooved that he can take what he's given playing staff wise and achieve great things.
But he won't come. He wouldn't be allowed to smoke in the stadium.

It seems to change hourly.

Despite my Trap love, Marcello would fill me with rapture also.

"Gazzetta dello Sport" is a highly respected paper which was the first to break the news of Juve's original interest in Rafa. This could get interesting....

what style of play does lippi employ? I know a lot of people don't give a fuck but please let it be a manager who is less cautious than rafa and gh (in the league).

Coaching philosophy
In his book Il Gioco delle Idee: Pensieri e Passioni da Bordo Campo (A Game of Ideas: Thoughts and Passions from the Sidelines), Lippi outlined his coaching philosophy. First and foremost, Lippi emphasizes the importance of team spirit and team unity. Lippi likens a psychologically well integrated football team to the functioning of a psychologically healthy family. On the strategic aspect of coaching, Lippi emphasizes the importance of the mutual relations between players. Players must all follow the same plan and play for each other, "not" for themselves. Importantly, Lippi argues that "a group of the best players do not necessarily make for the best team." What is more important, he argues, is that the tactical plan or formation is one that allows each player to maximize (1) their utility for their teammates and (2) the expression of their full potential. Moreover, Lippi also notes that the choice of tactical formation is necessarily constrained by the qualities of the players available. Thus, selecting the best possible team not only requires finding the right combination of players for the chosen formation, but also finding right formation for the chosen players. Hence the title of his book, A Game of Ideas.
