Who would have thought we would have 5 defenders out at any stage in the season, just unbelievable...

There is zero hope for Minamino, even if you strapped him up to some Ben Johnson level roids
6 goals and 2 assists in 25 appearances isn't too shabby. Don't get me wrong, if someone offered £20m, I'd sell, but that's not going to happen.

Where's Nat's song?

NAT is close to cult hero status already. He still has a habit of being dragged out. He's eager to put out fires but clever strikers will drag him out to leave space in behind. He's prob still learning as he's up against quality forwards like Kane, Benzema, Cavani etc. He's done enough to warrant sticking around next season. He'd be great for a club like Brighton looking for a replacement for Dunk and Duffy who are both 5 years older.

I really want him to do well and agree with Woland's point about next season. It will be intriguing to see how well he can do alongside VVD. Matip is finished, Gomez has it all to do too.

It's one thing to walk into a side in an emergency and perform alongside seasoned pros, it's another to be thrown in alongside a few different makeshift partners. I think that gets forgotten a bit when we judge how well he has done, when you factor that in as well, he must surely have the capacity to perform even better with quality and experience alongside him. Not to mention a consistent partner.

From Football365:

16) A potential own goal, an overturned penalty, an assist, a clearance off the line and the most headers won of any player on the pitch is some pure, unadulterated Nat Phillips. It took the 24-year-old time – forgivable considering the circumstances of both his career and the situation – but he does not look at all out of place in this Liverpool side. Williams alongside him was also very good. Klopp’s singular “Yep” when asked whether he was confident heading to Old Trafford with that pairing spoke volumes. Had he trusted them and moved Fabinho back into midfield sooner then this result might have meant even more to Liverpool.

Or not. Despite the likes this has got, I'm not convinced. The fact that the two lads are doing the biz now doesn't automatically mean they would/could have earlier on.

I'm sorry - That last line is a load of me hoop...

Nobody can possibly think that if JK had simply thrown both NP and RW in at CB around January, that they'd have been this good, back then. Just like Robbo needed time to get up to scratch, so did this pairing - It's just unfortunate that we didn't have it to give them. Because they've been strong these past two matches, too many people are conveniently forgetting / ignoring that.

For all the intelligence and greatness of Klopp, he has weird weaknesses at times. Just to improve the average height in defending corners/FK against lower teams, he preferred playing Origi at times than Minamino & Nat. Klopp really has to look at what Pep does. I fucking hate the bald fraud but you have to admire for how he handles the squad, giving almost everyone all them equal minutes. I agree that many of City's squad players are signed for big money unlike ours but you cant deny the fact that our squad players are not worth being picked up against lower league oppositions. Klopp can still make 1 or 2 changes and have the playing XI balanced. But he wont do that.

I am not saying he should suddenly make changes for last 3 games of the season but he can manage the squad better in the next season.

Well clearly however City's squad players are way way better than ours so there's your answer ! Jesus or Origi? Shaq or Silva? etc.

Damn, I'm fully on the Nat Phillips rollercoaster! Great game what a important player he had become. Amazing goal line block after getting his first goal. That goal will have given him more confidence to feel part of the team more. Impressed with Rhys too even though was giving me Djimi Traore nightmare flashbacks, but he's young so we have to forgive.

I said pre-game that Rhys and Phillips would be kept together and Fabs not dropped back simply because of their aerial ability and that clearly paid dividends (ditto for Palace I'm sure). However Rhys' lack of pace is alarming to say the least, he'll drop back into the U21s and be gone in a season or two at most.

Three things that concern me about Williams

Positional awareness on high balls. He gets caught under them, and loses his man.

He needs to fill out that frame. That will allow him to bully strikers.

His pace, however Carragher and Hyypia were never blessed with pace. Our high line doesn't suit his style.

It’s not just his pace either. It takes him an absolute age to get his feet moving. He is really young, so this is really harsh, but there’s not a lot I love about his game

Williams needs to work on a lot of aspects of his game. He's still young, so there's time.

1. He needs to play more consistently. See Philips development in Germany and here. Took him a few games but he got the hang of it. His awareness and reading of the game will improve.

2. He's built like McManaman, so he really needs to hit the gym. Also work on his explosiveness. You can work on your pace. He can get quicker, it's not impossible.

I still have hopes for him but he shouldn't be anywhere near our first team when our injured defenders return for next season.
A Championship loan move would be ideal. Maybe to his home town team Preston?

In addition to some excellent displays and a well deserved goal last night, that's 2 goal line clearances in 3 games at absolutely vital times. Both times showing great awareness of how the situation could play out. His performances are one of the reasons it is in our own hands on the last day. I'm not sure what the centre back plans are for next season but he should be part of them. VVD is coming back from a long lay off and Matip and Gomez are injury prone. Even if we buy another centre half we will need him.

Klopp has a much more holistic view on the roles of each player. Naby and Ben Davies may not be on the pitch but they are playing an important role in the squad.

I hear Kieta is out for 8 weeks with a slip disk caused by lifting a box
