Alisson needs to stop these preventable mistakes. Playing out from the back when the opposition is closing in on our defenders is stupid. Kick the ball 50 yards away from the goal.

Definitely. So many times when it called for calm, I find myself screaming for Alisson to just hoof it. Would rather they build an attack from 60 yards then having a pot shot from 18 yards at an open goal.

If we have a most improved award it definitely belongs to Philips.
Premier League teams will definitely be testing our resolve this summer.
He looks more agile and more comfortable with the ball. Even his passing has improved.
I don't think he's finished yet.
Rhys Williams is nowhere near good enough yet but I have to say he played a superb 60m pass out of defence to Mo on the RW. Great ball.

EDIT. Also having just watched the highlights again he did superbly to drop onto his knees to block the follow up to Philips' goal line clearance. Fast thinking.

I think he looks slimmer, more athletic.
Can you get slimmer than this? His chest is wider now, no?

The additional benefit of this is that we are more likely to successfully press the opposition defence if we hoof it forwards and hunt it down versus actually do anything meaningful when slowly building from the back.

Rhys Williams has baulked up, and he looked much better in the last two games. Would be interesting to see what a 1 year loan at a Championship club would do for him.

Think he's been very reliable of late, growing into the role and it is actually a shame he may never experience starting in home games with a full crowd. Would love him to score before the end of the season.

It would be a great story for him to get signed by another PL club - he's more than capable of being a starter for a team who play deep. Could see him being decent for Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley, Saints etc.

In general, protected by the midfield, we saw their toughest test so far and they smashed it. Imagine if we'd just trusted Nat & Rhys from Day 1 with Fabs & Hendo kept in midfield.

I think he'd be great stood next to VVD. I'd rather he started the season with him that anyone else we've got. I'm not saying we can't improve on him but he's got that desire that none of the rest seem to have. It's a bit early to say but Kabak is already out. Matip and Gomez are fannies. Nat seems to have the qualities to do VVDs dirty work and do it well.

Agreed he did look a bit hesitant at times...😉

I think Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez would be knocking on Klopp's door the day after if they started from day 1.

And there is no guarantee that our first choice CBs are going to be game ready in a few months. No chance they sell Phillips this summer. Imagine opposing attackers trying to figure out if they want to target VVD and lose the ball, or go after Phillips and lose a limb?

Good to see him becoming a threat from setpieces too from an attacking POV. Brings another dimension especially something we always had with VVD and Matip.

His attitude after scoring the own goal was fantastic, going behind was nothing to this team last 3yrs.

Matip needs to be sold a) for his health b) to build up our coffers.
Our defence for next season could be
VVD
IK
Gomez
Nat
Kabak (may be?)
Davies
Knowing our luck all of them will be needed

Phillips should be a shoe in starter going forward every time we play a Burnley / West Brom / Lower European / Domestic cup type of side. Rest Van Dijk or Konate etc

that’s roughly 20 games a season at least without injuries

From Football365:

16) A potential own goal, an overturned penalty, an assist, a clearance off the line and the most headers won of any player on the pitch is some pure, unadulterated Nat Phillips. It took the 24-year-old time – forgivable considering the circumstances of both his career and the situation – but he does not look at all out of place in this Liverpool side. Williams alongside him was also very good. Klopp’s singular “Yep” when asked whether he was confident heading to Old Trafford with that pairing spoke volumes. Had he trusted them and moved Fabinho back into midfield sooner then this result might have meant even more to Liverpool.

Has Nat philips bulked up?

Yeah I'm glad he's bulked up and realized he needed to, shows good awareness from him and the Liverpool coaching team. Me and my friends noticed Thiago also looks a little bit more bulker as well lately. Now if they can just get Minamino on 'the inhalers' as well....

Was thinking the same today. He deserves it but also I think he can be good enough for it. Gomez is made of cheese and Matip is already fondue. Phillips will start half of next season's games

just seen this....

twat
You were spot on, no one predicted that he'd improve this much. Even Klopp didn't believe in him.
Remember at the star of the season when he preferred Rhys to him?
