I have no idea what this means.
Im clearly having a slow day.
When you're not stuck on a train cos some cunt has ended himself in front of it.

Oh right. Proper slow day. When you're not stuck on a train cos some cunt has ended himself in front of it.
For my sins I was on the Hodgson hype train
Come on man. I was Aquilani's agent there for a while. For my sins I was on the Hodgson, Aquilani and Ballotelli hype trains. They were pretty lonely places but it didn't deter me.
Yep I was all over that train aswell. My worst was backing Andy Carroll based solely on the fact that he was a fucking meathead.
You don't understand what's fallacious about ad hominems.
Sell Xabi Alonso and buy Gareth Barry.
Quite a few advocated that one
I was sick of all the political shit at the time with football being a sideshow to the infighting between the owners and Rafa. He always seemed likeable at Fulham and thought be would get us back on track. Obviously I was completely bloody wrong but I would have probably taken anyone at that point. I wasn't enjoying the sport at all. Hodgson's football then showed me a new low.Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
At £16m I didn't see how we could lose. All strikers playing in the top leagues go for more than £16m. Even if it didn't work out I was sure some Turkish club would throw £15m plus at him.Come on man. I was Aquilani's agent there for a while.
And the Balotelli train was fun to be on even though we knew it was all crap.
Ha yep, pretty I never heard of him until your posts and your reasoning that his cross eyes helped his laser guided passes onto Torres right foot. I was sold.Come on man. I was Aquilani's agent there for a while.
And the Balotelli train was fun to be on even though we knew it was all crap.
Yep, where is the fun in downplaying our new signings from the off and then arguing with our own fans to prove they are in fact shite. It would probably only lead to developing a subconscious dislike towards our own players for no reason bar that's the stance you've decided to take on them.
I remember jumping on board the Lazar Markovic hype train. He ticked all the boxes for a bandwagon. Sexy name, long hair, confusion whether he was a Chelsea player or not. He had the youtube vids the lot.
I remember giving him the moniker "Serbian Kaka" to keep the hype going. He was doomed pretty quickly though, Rodgers didn't have time to nurture him as his job was becoming increasingly in threat and he needed players who were 'ready' now for the first team. That and Lazar didn't have as much space to kick the ball and run into in the Premiership. We'll always have that game against Sunderland though, when we had an opportunity to fan girl all over him.
Been thinking a bit more about this.
I think - and I'm referring especially to Brendan and I - we view players entirely differently. I'm not saying one is entirely right or wrong, merely that we have a different barometer by which we gauge footballers.
I tend to think most players are pretty good, or tend to try and find the positives in them, or lastly I (think) I tend to be more optimistic. There are no bad players in the Premier League. Well except Alberto Moreno, but that's a different matter. I'm not simplistic enough to suggest that 'all players are great therefore there's no debate', but as an example, and let's take someone polarising; I look at someone like Joe Allen and just absolutely appreciate what he does very well. I get he's not a Suarez or whatever, but he's a very good football player in other ways. I appreciate his touch, awareness, ability to always always retain possession, receive at any pace, weight, height, and trap it immediately and move it. I can't emphasise enough how hard that is to do - and never ever fail at - at the pace of which those games are played at. It's a talent.
Same goes for plenty of other players. Firmino too. If you can't look at him and not see a very good footballer, then you have a fundamentally different way of viewing the game to me. I just don't think it's as binary as 'well he doesn't score goals therefore he's shit, and "we've established that long agozzzz...". It just stifles debate for me. It's a pointless way of viewing the player and the game. It may be your way of viewing it, but it isn't mine.
So I get fucking half-jokes like 'Swagmonster' and 'Horrenderson' are game for ridicule when they turn out to be the opposite on occasion, but I think the rest - for players that polarise - is because we view contribution differently.
Again, I'm truly not saying one view is any better or worse, but I also truly don't really care if you think I'm wrong about Firmino, or Allen, or Lucas, or whatever. I appreciate what they can do I guess.
Apart from the fact that you are criminally underrating Dolberg there, that is s wonderful post @peekayI think part of the reason why I find forums nice is reading opinions where posters exaggerated for maximum effect. If everyone was factual and waited for proof before providing their evidence, this would be a really boring forum. I love reading @rurikbird opinion about players from mainland Europe, @Roopy opinion about Serie A players, @KHL's opinion about Danish players etc. These folks take risks and put themselves out there for ridicule in threads like these.
The problem with you Brendan is that your default position is negative and given our transfer record, a person who is default is negative tends to be right most of the time. Even when you praise, you play it safe unless there is strong evidence and your posts are very measured. Maybe the reason why you post like that is because you do have a target on your back and you tread carefully. You tend to be right more than often because you rarely take risks, and that makes your new posts a wee bit on the boring side.
You used to take more risks in your earlier versions. Before coming here I used to be on TLW, and this is one of your previous posts.
"But Charlie Adam at £8m or whatever is good value; he was desperate to come and Kenny really wanted him, and I have very high hopes about his Liverpool career. Not even sure why.
And while Downing probably wasn't anyone's first choice (esp at £20m) he is a decent winger, and will certainly improve the side (and provide some meat and drink crosses for The Big Bearded Grock).
Henderson is the one I have least time for, but that's possibly because I haven't seen that much of him. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think there's much there."
I also from memory remember a post when we purchased Robbie Keane (I think this was on SCM)
"Welcome to LFC, Robbie Keane. Finally a player worthy of the 7 shirt after Dalglish".
That post was imprinted on my mind because I was unsure of the transfer and when I saw your positive post, I chided myself for being negative when even Brendan was happy about this transfer.
I think most of us on this forum, atleast the ones who have been here the longest, are fairly intelligent people. When I read KHLs posts describing Dolberg as the next Maradona + Pele + Batistuta (my apologies @KHL if I am underrating Dolberg), Ryan describing Joe Allen as Rolls Royce, Juande Ramos shits trophies courtesy of Dreamy; I sense a little bit of passion and emotion, the sort only football can evoke in us. It is not always about being rational and right. If we are being rational, then none of us would post here. I hope threads like these do not discourage posters.
And don't bother hunting down instances where I was wrong. I thought Josemi will be great; would have named myself some variant of Letallec if not for LTW taking that mantle; Pongolle was going to be a megastar; convinced Mark Gonzales was going to solve our wing problems after watching him rip apart Madrid when he was on loan at Sociedad; Mane was a bad transfer; disappointed when we lost out on Gotze; the list is really really long.

True. Not risky... just plain clueless. That's hardly me being 'risky' is it?
Although you had to find some way to explain how far back and how few examples you've actually been able to find.
Even if I can't remember any of them. For possibly similar reasons.
I was very excited by Lazar. There you go. Entirely because of his name, though
You weren't here for this cracker

I wish I could remember all the shit I got wrong on this forum (& KT) about players ... Here's a few whoopers.
1) I definitely thought Balotelli would have done more. I still think that game against Spurs fucked him - he should have scored a hat trick and it would have all been different.
2) Ryan and Pesam made me believe Joe Allen was going to be far far better than he turned out to be.
3) I thought Sterling was going to be a 10-20 goal a season player ... I don't think he's nearly as good a finisher as I thought he was.
