Moises Caicedo

This was already posted a few months ago, but a must-watch for anyone interested to know more about Caicedo.

Does Moises work as well as he does on his own or that he has a partner like Alexis Mac Allister next to him?
With Naby, Ox Millie and Milo all leaving this summer and Hendo, Thiago and Fab not getting any younger we need at least 3 new MF between now and Jan.I expect Moreton and Steph to get more games and to rotate Thiago and Fabs more.
Get 1 MF now and then 2 in the summer or vice versa if we're able to offload one of the summer departures now.

I don't really know too much about him, but have seen lots of Gini comparisons, and that video analysis shows he's quite strong at holding the ball and shielding it from players whilst also dribbling / progressing through the middle third in a consistent way. We've really lacked that since Gini's left, we have players with that ability in Thaigo and to a lesser degree Elliott, but they're both higher risk when they do it, ie they lose the ball a lot. If you look at the last two games we've been getting overrun in the middle because of our lack of ability to hold onto the ball like that, Thiago and Elliott try, but due to a lack of physicality and a higher risk mindset, they often end up putting the team under more pressure due to turnovers. If peak Gini was in the midfield for those games I think we'd have coped much better, as he was both stronger, and more cautious in his play, which lead to us having greater control of these kind of matches, and hopefully if we sign Caicedo he can bring that aspect back to our game.

I think that's exactly what we need to help out Thiago, we need proper press resistant players in that midfield combined with strength. I absolutely loved Thiago's performance last night - and I thought he was MOM rather than TAA. I honestly think we made mistakes getting both Thiago and Fabio - they both don't seem they will develop much more physically - especially Fabio, don't think they will help us much in the future, but am hoping I am wrong. The Elliot in midfield experiment is just not working, and Hendo resorted to being utter shit yesterday.

I've said it before I never understood the relaxed way we managed Ginis departure. Fabinho and Thiago are both awesome footballers but without a player like Gini in the squad we have looked vulnerable when teams have a go at us.

Ginis reading of the game and his workrate quietly was the reason why we were so dominant in the title winning season.

These days I never feel fully confident in our midfield to hold on when things are tight.

Caceido hopefully will fix that he looks very Gini like

We had this aura around us then. No point in attacking us because prime vigil was superman. Now he’s not near that level teams aren’t scared. Back then we needed more dynamic passing which gini never provided which explains why we brought in Thiago.

From Echo... Didn't read the other 400 words, so didn't think it's worth posting

So Chelsea are basically back to their old ethos of buying everyone who's available and being overstocked in just about every position.

We're temporarily fucked aren't we? We clearly aren't spending because everything is up in the air with the club, so we're pausing once again, while everyone else is catching up and overtaking.

We've done this every season since winning the title, and we're now counting the cost. Let's hope it's sorted soon, because FSG have clearly lost interest in us competing.

Why are the echo so full of shit?

If I ever saw a liverpool echo lying around I'd genuinely treat it as if it were a piece of turd outside my doorstep.

Writing was on the wall for FSG when the super league crashed and burned. That was their long term plan for financially funding the club. You have to be willing to spend £100m-£200m a season to compete with City/Chelsea/Utd on a level playing field. They have no interest in that.

Yeah, I think this season is a write off in terms of 4th and CL football. Our gamble with not signing a midfielder will cost us. The teams in front of us are performing better and improving their squads.

I dont see us suddenly clicking and start performing with the defensive solidity that is necessary to go on a winning run.

No CL footy next season might not fuck up our transfer plans if the club is sold just look at Chelsea, but if the club isnt sold before the summer then next season might be in the shits as well.

They need to make their intentions clear, because it all just seems a bit farcical at the minute. Is it investment, is it a takeover, is it whichever one ends up being the best deal? Why buy Gapko, then make it obvious we don't intend to spend on the crucial areas where we actually need players? It's not even like Klopp is writing off the season and playing players who will benefit in the longterm, he's persevering with dross like Keita and Ox.

Gakpo makes sense longer term if Firmino is off. But you could say that about a midfielder seeing as half the midfield is off this summer. This gamble wont pay off. I dont believe Klopp can get this team to finish 4th with the current midfield set up.

Don't understand how they aren't penalised by the Prem for this, or at least reported by some other clubs....they currently have a 26 man squad & that's excluding the likes of Lukaku Ampadu Rahman Bakayoko Hudson Odoi and Sarr who they all have out on loan.

They can apparently sign 18 year old Brazilians who have yet to make an international appearance, doesn't have a european passport etc.

Maybe @momoWASboss or @StevieM will fill me in on that btw since they know all the rules regarding signing non Europeans.

I'm sure his parents visited the country once when he was 8 months old and that's why they've been allowed to sign him.

You can sign them. Doesn’t mean they can work in the country. Like we did with that Brazilian we always sent out on loan.

It's all a bit haphazard and unbalanced though. I mean, take this for favoured and secondary roles:

Left wing forward - Nunez, Diaz, Jota, Gapko, Carvalho
Centre forward - Firmino, Jota, Nunez, Gapko
Right wing forward - Salah, Elliott

Meanwhile we've got a midfield that's either in the sick bay, kindergarten, or the retirement home.

We didn't need to spend that amount of money though.

We just needed to keep spending something whilst we were on top instead of spending next to nothing.

Also, there are quite a few players who should not still be at the club or have the contracts they do.

It's not just FSG, I think it's partly down to Klopp. He seems to prefer a small squad comprised of his favourites and doesn't rotate unless he really needs to.

This may end up being something like this, since we've seen Diaz moving on to the right during matches (I'm discounting Elliott since I just can't see him at RW for any amount of time, that experiment will fall by the wayside soon I feel) :

In order of Klopp's possible long term preference (exc. any breakthroughs from the Youth) :
Left wing forward - Gapko, Diaz, Nunez, Jota, Carvalho
Centre forward - Nunez, Jota, Gapko, Salah, Firmino,
Right wing forward - Salah, Diaz, Doak, Jota

I do like that they can all play in multiple positions and I could see 5 players getting match time in virtually every game (Diaz, Salah, Nunez, Gakpo and Jota) unless injured and in that case we have good cover.

Yeah I agree with all that, I think I lost the thread of my point though. Aside from injury, we were heavily stocked in the position we just bought Gapko for. Maybe it was just an opportunity we couldn't pass up, it happens, but it's frustrating when there are gaping holes elsewhere.

I think both Elliott and Carvalho has the skill set to play Bobby's false 9 role
