For me Oncy, only one of them was attempting to play the ball. Have a look at the intentions of each player; Fabregas swining at it 6 yards out, completely unaware. Puyol by contrast had no intention to play the ball, and every intention to get in Fabregas' way. Penalty.
Ok Luckily i sky+ the game so i just watched it from every angle in slo mo about 15 times. And no it was neeeever a pen. At best it was obstruction and an indirect free kick. No Nope, not having it mate. Never no never a pen.
We're not gonna agree on this one.

That's not true. I'm going to convince you to agree with me you watch.

Well, I like oncy's argument that it wasn't a pen.

An I also like Ryan's insistance that it was.

But which is better?

There's only one way to find out.....

i thought the pen was a close call, but the real disgrace was him getting sent off. they've really got to change this rule, it's completely disproportionate.

so let's say he's denied a goalscoring opportunity...surely the compensation, the penalty, is itself a goalscoring opportunity: problem solved. if the ref thinks the foul a particularly cynical one (let's say there's an open goal or something) then book the player. hell, you could even have the penalty taken with no keeper just to make sure, but a red card is just completely at odds with the offence.

Yep. Agree with this 100%.

Oh, and another thing... If Barca do come calling for Masher again, and this time we can't keep him - Straight swap for that fucking rolls royce Busquets please.

What a fucking player that lad is.

Was it a straight red for Puyol? I thought it was a second yellow and then a red, a red would have been horrendously harsh.
Penalty? I can see why it was given, it would probably been given 100 times out of 100 but I still feel massive sympathy for Puyol. He did not do too much wrong, as Cesc pulled his leg back to pull the trigger his leg slipped between Puyols' legs.
Still Piedro had a fiver on 2-2 so not a problem.

i'm pretty certain it was a straight red. 99% certain, actually.

And he lost. I thought that was the point.
Poor the O'Tomkins.

Again.
I wasn't talking about the result.

The formation Ferguson deployed showed he cared more about conceding than scoring. Thought that was worth discussing is all.
Yeah but that's perfectly understandable in an away leg European tie.
So, nobody will complain if Lucas starts tonight then yeah?
Fine with me. I'd prefer if he only started in the shit cups anyways... 😉

well now that the match is over, how good were barca in the first 20 minutes? fucking hell. brilliant with the ball and brilliant without the ball (closing down and huntng in packs). arsenal the supossed 'attacking team' were given a footballing lesson how to attack, arsenal were shellshocked. personally I think if barca still had eto'o or torres the tie would have been over in the FIRST HALF.

Ryan - Busquets is class. He doesn't seem to be a 'DM' in the Mascher mould though, more like what Lucas should be for us in our 4-2-3-1

'Loathsome' is spot on
I don't know who this Frank lad is but almost every post I read of his is disgraceful. Is it Kanwar?
I have no idea.

But I see you've fucking ruined him. Haha.
I hate using old post to highlight someones bullshit, it's neither big nor clever. But in this case for this poster I felt well justified.
I couldn't find one positive post about Gerrard. That's a wum in my book.

He's very impressive and I'm quite sure I've seen him filling in at CB before as well and with Puyol and Pique suspended from the 2nd leg I guess he'll fill that role again. With Busquets and Yaya Toure meeting their defensive CM needs and Iniesta and Xavi fulfilling the attacking CM options their pursuit of both Fabregas and Mascher does smack off an over-egged omelette.

'i couldn't see the first half from where i was sitting'

barca have too away goals so arsenal have to 'attempt' to take the game to barca and with a brand new center back pairing I fancy them to score. if inesta starts I think arsenal have no chance.
