I know there are internationals this Wednesday, but quite a lot of our players (including Cole and Carra) won't be involved, so is there no suggestion that a Liverpool XI will play a preparation match? I just don't feel like we'll be ready for the Arsenal game, with most of our best players having played so little football since the World Cup.

There are a few Liverpool XI games aren't there? Think they are playing Galway on Tuesday. Maybe they will get a run out?

Click the reserves tab at the top. Maybe a few of the first teamers could be involved? Tickets are available online, might check it out if I can.

As you said, I don't see them all being fully fit or near ready. They should play.

Kuyt isn't in the Dutch squad and hasn't played a game since the WC final. Same goes for Pepe and Torres who are not in the Spanish squad "due to injury". Ngog didn't make the French squad, Babel is rested from the Dutch squad and aquilani is still nowhere near the Italian squad.

All in all we've got a fair portion of our 1st team squad available for a kick about.

The list of those selected to play:

  • [li]Insua, Masch and Rodriguez (Argentina) will play RoI in Dublin.[/li]
[li]Dagger and Poulssen (Denmark) will play Germany[/li]
[li]Jovanovic (Serbia) will play Greece in Belgrade[/li]
[li]Zorba (Greece) will play Serbia in Belgrade [/li]
[li]Lucas (Brazil) may play the States in New Jersey.[/li]
[li]Johnson and Stevie will play Hungary in London[/li]
[li]Skrtel (Slovakia) will play Croatia in Bratislava[/li]
[li]Nemeth (Hungary) will play for the U21s in Bosnia[/li]

so we could have:

Pepe/Cavalry

Darby Carra Kelly Aurelio

Kuyt Spearing Aqualini Pacheco

NGog Torres

From the offal:

"They take on Galway United on Monday night at Terryland Park at 7.30pm, and then cross to Northern Ireland when they face Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park, Dungannon, on Thursday, August 12 at 7.45pm."

I'd put Babel, Shelvey and probably Cole in that team, but otherwise agree. The Dutch and Spaniards in particular need to play at least one match before the Arsenal game. Doesn't sound like it's gonna happen though. The Galway match is the only one scheduled that would work out in terms of timing, and that seems to be reserves only:

UEFA European U19 champion Chris Mavinga joins up with John McMahon's reserves as Liverpool embark on a two-game tour of Ireland next week.

The defender, who helped France beat Daniel Pacheco's Spain in the final, is back in McMahon's squad as he looks to further his Anfield education this season.

They take on Galway United on Monday night at Terryland Park at 7.30pm, and then cross to Northern Ireland when they face Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park, Dungannon, on Thursday, August 12 at 7.45pm.

"It's a good bonding session for the lads and we are looking forward to it," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"We are playing against good quality opposition as both are League of Ireland teams so it will be a test for us.

"We are taking a squad of 20 over to Ireland and it is nice to welcome Mavinga back after his performances for France in the U19 European Championships.

"Chris did really well in the tournament and he is a good lad to have in the squad.

"We have been working the lads really hard in pre-season and they have trained well and shown a great attitude.

"It's also a good chance to see the players in a new environment and it is a good education for them."
