Middle East Violence (content may offend)

Russian forces (Wagner Group?) have apparently abandoned a number of bases as the rebels gain ground. If they're pulling out altogether, Assad's goose is probably cooked. Goodness knows who or what might replace him.

These rebels or whatever are backed by turkey primarily it seems, and seemingly have some isis ties.
The Rebels are today attacking the Kurds - an area which will undoubtedly fall. It's interesting Erodgan, who has such a solid track record of fighting for human rights, would allow this to happen under his watch.

Assad is backed by Russia and Iran.

Iran is close with turkey, and Russia have warmed to turkey despite the hiccups in their relationship (black sea headaches).

I wonder if the Russians and Iranians can afford to let syria fall?

The kurds hate the turks but hate the rebels too.

The Druze in the South are celebrating the Rebel gains.

The Sunnis in Lebanon are ecstatic too - celebrating daily, especially as this is only happening as Hezbollah (shiite) aren't able to help Assad.

Ukraine have helped the rebels with drone warfare it seems.

Where does the US stand in this?

Feels like an impossible puzzle to navigate.

If the rebels take latakia or however you spell it (that port city), russia's main syria port is in trouble... that seems on the near horizon.

EDIT - lots of stories swirling around that Assad has left the country ...

EDIT 2 - it seems he may still be in syria, and not Moscow, based on photo today with Iranian official.

EDIT 3 - rebels telling kurds they can leave with weapons so they can fight Assad forces, and they will be part of the new syria. How that works with erodgan I don't know ... basically a puzzle

A friend of mine works for MSF and the Swiss red cross, she told me she's off to Mali soon, it's filled with Wagner forces who come to the humanitarian agencies to get tested for malaria. They're all over Africa causing instability in places and of course a lot of the locals leave their home and head to Europe. Then Putin's trolls stoke tension in Europe and before you know it there are right wingers rioting and being voted into government all over the place.

No comment on the Syria situation? No love for Bashir, but that place is like an extremist vacuum right now.

Agree on both points above.
But also, the timing is interesting plus looks like everyone is involved somehow. US air strikes, Russia, Turkey, Israel.

Heh, yes yes, Syria, it's a country that exists. And likely Israel involved.

And speaking of Israel, let's get back to it!

Does Sudan count as part of middle east?
Largest humanitarian crisis in the world and it seems no one cares ... and to think we indirectly fun's the

The rebels are flying through SYria with their goal - as per a recent interview with CNN - to depose Assad.
If I was Assad, I'd be out yesterday - based on how the army is dealing with the rebels, he can pick life in Moscow or something, or whatever comes if he's caught.

Outside of Rebels vs Assad, a shit load of interesting subplots in the last week:
1) Syrian Rebels have demanded Iraq send no one to get involved.
2) Erodgan basically put the full support behind the Rebels to continue to Damascus.
3) Hezbollah said they won't help Syria this time.
4) Kurds have not got involved - but how are they not fucked *if* the Rebels are backed by Erodogan, who despite his stellar human rights record, is no friend of the Kurds.
5) Russian ships are leaving Syrian ports.
6) Iran has sent some generals to Syria.

Who's fucked if Assad falls?
1) pro-Iranian / Hezbollah folks in Syria - heads gone.
2) Iran - no way to get weapons through to Hezbollah through land.
3) Israel - rebels aren't going to be "nice guys" like Assad to Israel, are they?
4) Yazidi, Kurds and other minorities - although the Rebel talk has been pretty conciliatory, they are very much riddled with ISIS like Islamic tendencies ... That doesn't bode well for the aforementioned groups.
5) Turkey - Russia and Iran will just stand pat after losing influence in this key land mass?

Assad's Syria has fallen.
It took what? 11 days? It's insane how quickly they moved, and how little fighting there was (Homs & Huma only).
It seems there was a lot of coordination with the Syrian govt & much of Assad's army either laid down their weapons, ran away or joined the Rebels.
A lot of anger from Assad loyalists to Russia, Hezbollah and Iran for betraying them ... Don't really get that - that's the reason they were still in power.
The Rebels are saying all the right things - don't touch Syrian political buildings, it belongs to the people ... Don't assault any Assad soldier who puts his weapons down ... We don't want chemical weapons etc ... I guess time will tell what this means for the Syrian people, the powers that backed the winners (and losers) or the region ...

A bit worrying that one of the rebel groups involved is said to be an offshoot of Al-Qaeda. Next stop in-fighting among the "winners"?

Assad and his coterie were themselves members of a minority Muslim sect. the Alawites. Wouldn't like to be among their number now.

Here, this may help you better understand:

Reports that Israel have not only seized Golan Heights, but also tanks now inside Syria.

Wtf?

What I saw says they entered the buffer zone (to do with '74 agreement?) between the Israeli & Syrian Golan Heights (I guess they 'split' the terrain). The reason I saw most quoted is to ensure there's no 'rebel' (whichever group that may be) presence directly on their border.
The tank in Syria thing - it's coming from various sources, but the Israelis have so far denied it.
The picture I saw was of one tank - are they really that fucking thick to have one tank by itself? Idiots.
Other stuff says the Israelis hit 250+ Assad linked targets (Chemical weapons, air force bases, army bases etc) in 2 days.
I guess they're not trying to help the rebels as those would be weapons they'd use ... Odd one.

We have to wait for confirmation of these reports.
It'll mainly come by way of brave Israeli soldiers wearing lingerie of displaced or dead Syrian women.

So far HTS led by Amorim-lookalike al-Jolani is doing their best impression of a “liberal ISIS”:

Here is the state of affairs on day one of the HTS-led government in Damascus:

• Central Bank operating; commercial banks reopen Thursday.

•Mohammed al-Bashir appointed to form a temporary government.

•Jolani met Bashir and Assad’s PM to arrange power transfer.

•Aleppo airport to resume domestic flights soon.

•State employees told to return to work.

• Gov’t officials say Women free to wear what they wish.

•Harm to journalists punishable by prison.

• General amnesty to all Syrian military conscripts.

Unfortunately, quite a few videos today of rebels killing ex-Assad folk, with the usual chants it seems.
It's tough to tell which rebels these are - hopefully not Jolani's crew, as he seems to be saying/doing the right things.

Al Qaeda have gone woke. They'll have drag queen suicide vests next, with fake tits filled with plastic explosives.
