We're linked (only by caughtoffside.com, but still...) to this 21-year-old attacking midfielder/second striker today for £8m. He plays for Werder Bremen and has nine goals and 17 assists this season. He has previously been linked (for higher prices) to Arsenal and Man United. The reason for his declining price is that he's entering the last year of his contract.

Sounds fairly promising, however spurious. Anyone seen him play?

No, but given his name he will fit in well with the other strange named peeps we have been linked with.

It's a Turkish name. There's a sizeable Turkish community in Jairmeny. I was mistaken for a Turk once or twice during my year out over there. Apparently my German accent sounded similar to a Turkish one to some folks. ;D

Someone on here (Roopy?) reckons he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Roopy really rates this kid ... I've not seen many Werder games, so cannot comment but 8 goals & 17 assists is a fairl impressive haul.

He was one of the best players at the latest u21 tournament but then a note of caution, so was a certain Ryan Babel a few years ago.

Yeah if anyone watched Germany in the U21 tournament recently.... he fucking tore teams to pieces.

Would be a fantastic signing, brilliant talent and would bring much needed creativity to our side.

But I cannot see Bremen letting him go on the cheap.

Ozil or Marin would be tops.

He only has a year left on his contract apparently, so they might have to

If that is the case, then they are pretty f'ing stupid not to have offered him an extension - so the club can at least get a decent transfer fee for a quality player (not that I'm complaining if we get him on the cheap!)

He looks quite lightweight, but certainly worth a punt for 8M given the talent he has.

There is no chance we'll be signing this kid though.

He'll be at a big club next year no doubt. I've seen him play loads for the german u21's and he has it in spades.
I very much doubt we'll have a chance, I think he's nailed on for Bayern tbh. He's class.

Yes yes I was wrong about Insua. But I wasn't about Aquilani you'll see! Not to mention Agger and Mascherano who I championed long before the band mounted the wagon.
Pah!

Why are we being linked to players whose names sound like starters in a Greek restaurant ?

Don't mind him Oncy he's just mad at Lucas.

To me it's quite obvious that Aquilani is a real footballer. He could go on and achieve great things at Liverpool and then you'll be the one laughing.

Even Insua wasn't that bad a shout either baring in mind he's actually made the LB position his own coming through the ranks - and although not exactly setting the world alight - you still told us he could make it. And in some ways he already has.

Indeed he has made it. As one of the worst left-backs to ever play for Liverpool.

Well done Insua, you useless, slow fucking tubby cunt. Here's your prize - it's a replica statue showing Bernard Mendy tearing you a new arsehole. I hope you enjoy the irony of a statue, because that's what you fucking look like on the pitch aswell. A rotund, hapless statue getting outpaced or nutmegged for 90 FUCKING MINUTES.

Twat.

Werder Bremen midfielder Mesut Ozil has dismissed claims he has already agreed a new contract with the club.

Mesut Ozil was named the top Bundesliga player in the first half of the season

The Germany international is locked in talks with Bremen about an extension to his deal, which is due to expire in 2011, but insists an agreement has not yet been reached.

"It's in the papers, but it is not correct,'' Ozil said. "We are still holding negotiations and we will just have to see what emerges from them.''

Should the 21-year-old not commit to a new deal by the summer, Bremen may choose to sell him rather than risk losing him for nothing next year. But their director of sport Klaus Allofs is keen to convince Ozil to stay at the Weserstadion.

"It would be great if it were to happen, but we are not done yet,'' he said. "We have been looking for a solution for a while now which suits Werder Bremen and also Mesut.

"Maybe we will soon find one.''

Thinking of yesterday's thread, I'd be happy enough letting benayoun go if this starlet of starlets is his replacement.

Disagree. That's a kind of either/or which we need to steer clear of, if we want to avoid having such a thin squad in the future. We'd need both IMO.

In an ideal world I'd agree, but I'd be amazed if Rafa hasn't got to let older/fringe players go to regenerate the squad.

Point taken. I guess the question in the case of each suggested transfer is whether the player falls under that heading, and whether we have adequate back-up elsewhere in the squad after the new player is signed. For me Yossi's sale wouldn't qualify on either basis.

i think there are some amazing young players in Germany at the moment..

Ozil is terrific. i highly rate him and would love him here. Muller for Bayern is another that has suddenly emerged and has had fantastic season.

Ozit seems to have the composure of Riera but he has a lot more pace and is highly influencial in the majority of Werder Bremen's goals. id be FUCKING Delighted.

i actually suggested that he would be the young player of the tournament in the world cup and i am convinced he wont let me down..

We need to sign him before the WC then

Masherano was hardly the most difficult call in the world. Even I was raving about him well before he was at west ham. And my knowledge is limited.

Continuing the Turkish theme, it's all gone quiet over Arda Turan then.

With no end in sight to our legal woes, it's gettin' arda turan that story.
