What is up with thee? One of our best players in the second half of last season. Fitted in nicely with Kenny's pass and move philosophy.
Scored regularly, assisted and generally looked the part every time he played.

Before Ryan posts something sarcastic, i'm not calling him Messi or Ronaldo. I just find it strange that he's not even making the bench on some occasions this season. Kenny's brought in his own players in the summer, fair enough but Maxi's been frozen out unfairly in my view.

Can see him leaving in Jan the way things are going for him at the minute.

Another slow midfielder. No thanks.

Maxi was not one of our best player in the 2nd half of last season.

He scored 2 hat tricks and a goal in the last 4 weeks of the season.

He scored his first goal in 5 months on the 23rd of April when the bloomin season was virtually over and his contract was coming up.

I hate it when people talk about him being one of our best players or that he fits the system well. Or that he had a great 2nd half to the season.

His season was a total and utter shambles until he popped up with a couple of hattricks at the deatha and then people were raving about him like he was the f*cking missing piece. Was he f*ck. Where was he up until then?

He had a hot streak for 3 weeks against average sides at best.

That's simply not good enough for any player who wants to play a major part in our team.

He offers very little, has zero pace and if he doesn't score contributes sweet f*ck all.

I just wish he would leave ASAP.

One of the biggest misnomers in football is that lightning pace is critical.

It's absolute fucking bollocks.

Ha I only stuck that in for you Ryan. I know all about your idea of pace in the player is not needed as long as the ball is moved quickly and the player has intelligence.

But the rest still is correct. Maxi is horribly overrated by so many on here for two hat tricks in the last month of last season.

I think Maxi's a good player - lovely technique, intelligent etc - and that DB's talking utter bollocks, but he's got plenty of faults as well, we all know them so I'll leave it at that. But kenny obviously doesn't rate him and I'd expect him to move on in January or next summer at the latest.

Whatever his faults, I don't really see any great improvement in Downing or Henderson over him. Maybe now people will finally cut Rafa a bit of slack for his transfer errors when they see just how rare it is to spend all of, say, £110m well.

He's not horribly overrated.

Dreamy - 11 players don't win titles, you need a squad. And having someone on the bench or in the squad who's proven he can come in and play a role and score a goal isn't a bad thing in the slightest.

Just cos he's not in the side now doesn't mean we won't need him at some stage, cos we will.

What's the point in getting rid of him? For what purpose? There's more value to us right now in keeping him than moving him on.

Oh, i think Kenny's going to get plenty of stick if his expensive players turn out to be shite.

Some still remember Nicky Tanner.

I'm going to sit on the fence here and agree with everyone.

On one hand, Maxi is a bit hit and miss, for every good game he has, he has about 6 anonymous ones. That's no good really. He was poor for long periods of last season.

On the other hand, he cost 1M and scored 10 goals last season. Our new wingers, who cost 36 times as much as Maxi, don't look to be substantially better options. And I'll shallow fry my own nadsak if either of them get 10 goals this season.

I like Maxi. Always have. It is odd he isn't get any playing time but I suppose the new players are taking all his minutes.

You changed your tune a bit Ryan. I thought you didn't rate Maxi at all? Mehxi Rodriquez was it??

Although I don't think he is amazing or anything, he can be effective. Even if, as DB says, its only against the average sides, then so what? We play loads of average sides. We don't need to have a World beating best eleven playing every single game, and the more potential goalscoring options we have the better, surely?

It seems odd that he has not featured at all. Its not as if Kenny couldn't have got rid of him in the summer if he really didn't rate him

I don't think anyone has disputed that its not easy to always spend money well, but what might have pissed people off is spending money badly every year and then moaning about not having any

TBF it was more a question of saying that he didn't have enough, and that he was being asked to close the gap between us and the teams above us with a kitty little or no bigger than theirs.

That said, he did shoot himself in the foot by using very badly some (not all) of what he DID have to spend.

I guess the anti-Aquilani mob doesn´t want him anywhere near the pitch as he does not tackle. He´s the biggest pussy ever played for Liverpool.

I don´t mind him (imo we don´t need 11 dogs of war). The thing with Maxi is that he´s too often a bit gray to play regulary.

This (the bolded bit). Im more annoyed that Meireles was allowed to go to Chelsea to be honest.

Maxi is a fine bench option.

And im not getting into the rafa thing

Maxi is a squad player IMO, & a good one at that.

The flurry of goals he got raised his stature with many of our fans, & whilst it's mean to say artificially so, I do feel those goals came at a time the team was firing on all cylinders & werent exactly indicative of his overall play.

That's not to talk him down, he's a good option, but to say he should be starting is possibly a step too far.

Rafa fucked up to the tune of £80m over two Summers, which is why he's no longer got a job, well that and the fact he's a stubborn cunt. Great at recouping his losses though so it's all ok. We're only in October so I don't see how anyone can make any great predictions about players yet. Well unless the player is Jordan Henderson.

my views are extreme for this site. for our fanbase as a whole, though, they're moderate, and i believe yours are extreme. but, whatever.

i see mark's still peddling the £80m spunked away line. i make it £48m (19 keane, 17 aquilani, 7 dossena, and approx 5 overpaid on johnson, who in no way deserves to be bracketed as a flop like those others, just expensive), and that's without resorting to the legitimate fees recouped line that mark so irrationally refuses to take into account.

I have no idea what every fan thinks of Benitez. I'm sure there are people who are more critical of him than I am though. I think he is a decent manager as it happens but wildly overrated.

Not sure how Mark reached the 80 million figure either. I would personally include Riera and Cavalieri too, but its not that important really.

"flurry of goals", you sure mate?
Maxi was a 1 in 4 man for Atletico, and has 12 goals in 41 appearances for the Argies so it's not as if he hasn't scored fairly regularly throughout his career.

I'm not saying he should be starting either, but i find it baffling that he's not even making the bench this season. Hopefully that will change soon.

Yeah but didn't he have about 6/7 in 3/4 games for us last season? I honestly believe that period skewed his performances in the eyes of many of our fans.

He's a good squad player. He scored 10 goals in 35 games last season, and 7 of those came in 3 games as Jon said.
Not counting those games I thought he had a pretty average season. I seem to remember him being almost invinsible in every away game...

2 European Cup Finals
League Cup Final
FA Cup Final
and Numerous semi finals in a short 5 year stint impresses the fuck out of me, and yes I hated to see him go to be replaced by Roy HodgePodge, but in all honesty, I'd rather have Kenny here now and not Rafa

Someone on here once said that Maxi always reminds him of a bison.

Now when I see Maxi, I always think of a bison.

This is my curse.

Now I pass it on.
