Until/unless they sell Balotelli.

If the Mascher sale happens, it'll be a deadline-day special, I think, and probably at a reduced fee. I'm beginning to think we'd be better off keeping him. After all, if there's a takeover, we might even persuade him to sign a new contract.

If we haven't got a proper replacement for Mascher lined up, we'd be fucking daft to flog him.

So what if he's not happy? Supposedly he wasn't happy this year and it didn't seem to do him much harm.

In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that he hasn't got that long on his contract, I'd be quite happy to have him here as miserable as he likes if he kept performing at the standard he has been, but we need the cash too bad

What I dont get is why we're talking about such a reduced fee for him. If Yaya fucking Toure is worth £27 and Barca are bidding over £30m for Fabregas, then Mascherano is worth about £30m.

Sod Inter Milan - they always throw cash about if they want someone, and if Masscherano's wife is that unhappy in the UK, tough shit. Tell her to stop moaning for a couple of years while he makes a living.

Yeah, why should it be easier for her than for any new chairmans wife if he decides to move to England.

Probably bullshit though, just trying to get the price down.

Inter never complained about finances before, but everyone thinks we're a bunch of patsies so why not give it a whirl.

Inters manager was the guy who put a price on Maschers head. Not even 50 mill should price him away I think he said?? 🙂

Is there no home wrecker in Liverpool?

Come on, relieve the guy from that silly bitch who can't pick up a language in spite of staying in a place for three years.

What makes him think, she is going to pick up Italian more readily....i hope she already knows Italian, for his sake.

For a hardman defensive midfielder, it's pretty clear who wears the trousers (shorts?) in his house.

Poor Masher. I hope those Italian lessons haven't been a waste of money. I bet he's praying the Syrian takes us over so he can at least practice the lingo when ordering a calzone out of his new bosses takeaway.

Great, now I'm hungry

Well if he does stay, it means we have kept three of our top drawer boys, who most people had down to not be here, and added Cole and Jovanovic, and likely to add a decent left-back to the squad.

If we can get another forward it puts us in a far better position than we were last season, and with a mananger who I believe will play things much simpler and will know and play his strongest team.............and that is even without money coming in.

Not bad considering the doom and gloom that was being spread a few weeks ago.

PS I still think Mascher will be off though

Mirror...........

Christian Poulsen will fly into Liverpool today, to tie up a £6million reunion with his old boss Roy Hodgson.

The Reds manager gave Poulsen an introduction into professional football when he was manager of FC Copenhagen a decade ago, and together the pair won a title medal.

Now the midfielder will undergo a medical this afternoon and expects to complete negotiations with the English club on a three year contract after his club Juventus agreed a fee over the weekend.

Denmark coach Morten Olsen allowed the 30 year old to pull out of his country’s international game on Wednesday evening against Germany, to allow him to complete the switch to Anfield.

And the experienced campaigner could go straight into the Liverpool side for Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal, on the opening weekend of the season.

Brazilian Lucas will be away on international duty and won’t be back until Friday at the earliest, and Poulsen would be the obvious alternative.

Liverpool boss Hodgson wants a deal in place to allow him to sell unhappy midfielder Javier Mascherano, and despite suggestions from Inter Milan yesterday that they can’t afford the Argentine, that deal will still do through.

The Reds will hold out for around £26million, and are prepared to negotiate right down to the transfer deadline day wire at the end of August, and the Italian side have made it clear Mascherano is their man.

Hodgson also wants a striker, and has looked at Peter Crouch and Carlton Cole, a left back where he is still pursing his former charge at Fulham, Paul Konchesky.

The Liverpool manager hasn’t finished selling yet, either. He will listen to any serious offers for Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani, and would use the proposed £10million fee to bring in a replacement, with Belgian international Steven Defour top of his list.

The Anfield club, meanwhile, yesterday set out a timetable for a proposed takeover, with chairman Martin Broughton and Barclays Capital - who are overseeing the sale - suggesting they would like potential bidders to show their proposals within the next week.

Broughton wants comprehensive proof of the funding behind all offers, and will also require detailed plans before he is willing to even sit down and talks figures with potential buyers.

So far, there have been no offers, and yesterday, one interested party, India’s Sahara Group, suggested it is not ready to make a formal bid at this stage in the process, while another, Kuwait’s Al Kharafi family, haven’t put together a realistic funding plan.

But Kenny Huang, the man who is fronting a joint Chinese-American offer to take control at Anfield, is expected to arrive in England within the next few days to make his formal proposal to Broughton.

The Rhone Group, an American investment firm, are also interested in making an offer for a part stake in the club, but have so far failed to find potential partners, while a Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi seems to have been discredited by revelations at the weekend about some of his potential partners in the venture.

I think it is insurance, just in case Mascher does fuck off with little time to bring someone in, if Mascher stays it strengthens the squad.

If Mascher stays then its money that we don't really have that could have been used to strengthen the squad in other areas.

Is the right answer.

If the fee is indeed 6M, I think we're overpaying. Hopefully Hodgson knows what he's doing here and can get the guy playing.

Depressing article that.

Coach Morten Olsen said: 'I was happy to release Christian because this is a very important move for him and for us.

'We can benefit as a national team because he will be playing at a high level and he'll be happy playing for a manager who rates him highly. That should help bring the best out of him.'

Inter won’t sign Javier Mascherano or Giuseppe Sculli until players have been sold, says club chief Massimo Moratti.

Liverpool’s Mascherano has been requested by new boss Rafael Benitez, while the Genoa forward is being lined-up as Mario Balotelli’s replacement.

However, Moratti noted on Monday evening that the Premiership club’s valuation of the Argentine is just too much for the time being.

“Mascherano? No, not at these levels,†he stated. “Signings of this nature are just not possible now, especially given that we haven’t sold anyone.

“It’s the same situation for Sculli. If we don’t sell then we won’t buy. After all, we don’t have the need for new players.â€

Inter are expected to sell Balotelli to Manchester City for at least £25m though, even if the Beneamata owner claims there is nothing new to report.

“There have been no great forward strides,†he said when asked for the latest on the striker. “We’re just evaluating things.â€

Doubt any deal for Mascherano will be agreed upon by this week. Should we risk him vs Arsenal?

He wont play its just a case of waiting to get the City money moving.

Poulsen deal leaves us 20 million spare to sign Ashley Young or someone else with a bit of quality hopefully!

It's the Mirror. I've read in a couple of places that it is 6M Euros.

Yes, we should play Masherano every match until he is sold. Why weaken our team for a transfer we don't want anyway ?

Exactly right - I'm very impressed if this happens. How many times have we sold someone right at the close of the window and bought in a rushed purchase or no one at all? We don't need anyone and we don't have to sell Mascher; if Inter don't want to pay for him this season then they don't get him.

I'm pretty happy with the way the pre season has gone to be honest - much better than I expected. If Mascher stays then all the better; this season is a key one and our performance for the next 10 months is vital. If Mascher stays, Cole fires, Torres and Stevie stay fit and Jovanovic performs reasonably then we will force our way back into the top 4. By then there will certainly have been a deal done for club ownership so at the end of the season Mascher can leave if he wants to - our position will be far stronger both in a fiscal sense and on the pitch. If it means sacrificing the wishes of some players for a year and stretching our current budget then so be it; we have to count on a good season both on and off the pitch. Anything short of that, in reality, presents a very gloomy future for the club.

In case he gets injured and deal collapses leaving us 25 million short for any targets we had in mind.
[/quote]

No not short of 25M for targets .... if he's injured and they don't take him then, when he recovers, we have a world class DM in our team until at least January. We are getting enough from our sales (plus the reported 12M budget) to get the other players we need (plenty of threads on this already). I would be more than happy to keep Masher for this season and sell him next Summer for 10-12M. I would fully expect us to finish in the top 3 if that happened.

I would love us to fuck Inter & Rafa over on this but at the moment it's looking like they are the ones doing our rear end.

How? I disagree with that as he is our player and we have set the valuation for him and if they dont pay it we continue to have mascherano and they do not. Its not like we are going to turn around to another club and be like ok mascherano wants to leave, please put in a bid even if its 10-15mil, we need the money for other targets. its either he leaves on our terms or he stays and plays for our club. If he doesnt like it and refuses to play, then he can rot in the ressies for 2 years without pay.

I'd take that too...Maschers not the type to let his performance drop even if he wants away. a good season we get champions league and he can leave on the cheap next year - everyones a winner...except for his wife ,I suppose!

Unfortunately, yes.

It also sends Inter a message that if they want this done they better cough up the money; because they now can't keep stringing us along thinking that the longer they stall the more desperate we'll be.

l hope its not 6 million tho, i also hope KHL is right about him.

Because currently everyone is now talking of 20M - which is a rubbish bid for a player of Masher's calibre. As I said, if they don't come up with a minimum of 25 up to 30M then keep him for another season or sell for 20M in January and 10-12M next Summer. However if we have new owners who are looking to splash the cash, as has been intimated, and we are doing well up to January, then maybe Masher will persuade his wife it may be a good idea to stay, too many ifs and buts at the moment though.

We should demand Davide Santon + 15 to 20 million pounds. Yaya Toure went for 30 million pounds and Masher has 18 more months left on his contract. I don't see why we should let him go on the cheap.

If that were to happen, we would have fixed our LB problem + have 15 to 20 million pound that can go straight to fund another CM.

We can go with that Squad till January and think about that back-up striker then.
