Well he isn't fat. It would be nice to have a left back who can defend though.
I am fucking fed up with left backs. We have had to many, and noone can actually defend. They are so poor at defending that we have a habit of playing two of them in matches to cover up for each other.

Bring on Emmanuelson.
the problem with the left backs we've had in the past is when they have ventured upfield they haven't had the pace to get back on the counter which has left us exposed. the last good left back we had was riise when he first arrived and then in his last couple of years he was dire but dire is a relative term when think about insua.
This will pretty much be the mantra of the Riise haters from this day forward.

We'd be spoiled with a pacy LB really who is actually skillful as well. He doesn't have to be a rock-solid defender but it would help of course if he knew where to position himself.

From what I've seen of Urby he can be a bit out of focus at times but if the first game of the new season is anything to go buy he'd be a marvellous signing.

Aboslutely unstoppable going forward and he does a lot good defending too down to his overall pace.

He'd be slightly cheaper than a few of the more common names not having played for Holland at the WC.

There's this left back for Napoli called Andrea Dossena.

Scored something like 5 goals in preseason... should get him!

I'm a bit worried that Poulsen is a replacement for Lucas, and we'll start next year with poulsen and masch! oysh!

not a bad price, especially at the rate some players are going these days.

I wonder if it's a signing on bonus or a performance -related one.

If it's the former the transfer fee is about 5.5 million pounds and that IS steep for Poulsen.

Have we ever had a success from serie a? Not saying he wouldn't be, its a genuine question.

And Ian Rush doesn't count.

Paul Ince from Inter?

Might be wrong but i presume with Ozil signing for Barca(apparently in dept) they'd be done spending, and Inter claiming they have to sell to buy that its more likely that we'll hang onto the lad... Maicon to Real might make this possible but looks like he's staying. Haven't had a chance to read up on everything so may be wrong?

Not sure I'd really class him as a success. He was decent for a while, but his legs were going, and he was a gobby bellend.

Aye, seen him play a few times and he's the exact opposite of what i like to see in a player. Nordic twat

What a shit hound of a managaer he was....

Still selling mash and paying of 6 weeks of interest is a good move.

CHRISTIAN POULSEN’S move to Anfield has hit a stumbling block with Liverpool unable to afford his arrival until Javier Mascherano departs.

Discussions have been ongoing with Juventus midfielder Poulsen after the player was earmarked as a replacement for the wantaway Mascherano.

The 30-year-old, who it is understood has been offered a three-year contract, was given permission to withdraw from Denmark’s squad for the game against Germany after Liverpool agreed a fee of around £6million for his services.

However, the deal can only go through once funds have been raised by the departure of Mascherano, the saga of which took another twist yesterday.

The Argentine informed Liverpool last month of his desire to leave and is strongly tipped to be reunited with former Anfield manager Rafael Benitez at Inter.

However, the Serie A side are stalling over a bid for the player, who has been handed a £25million price tag by Liverpool, because they have not yet raised sufficient funds by the sale of Mario Balotelli to Manchester City.

Now an agent representing Mascherano in Spain has stated the 26-year-old wants a move to Barcelona.

The Catalans were unable to prise the player away from Anfield last year but, having missed out of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, may now be ready to test Liverpool’s resolve once again.

While Walter Tamer is Mascherano’s primary agent, Spain-based representative Horacio Zandonadi said: “The player and all of us would love him to be at the club.

“The numbers are close to half what Barca were being asked to pay for Fabregas.

“He has not renewed his contract (at Liverpool) and they promised that this year they would help him leave.

“We're talking about a much easier situation than ast year.â€

I wonder how Mascherano will feel if he´ll end up staying with us. How many years does he have left on his contract?

Wow, how skint are we? That said, in the last 2 weeks we have been linked with Poulsen we have paid the same amount as his transfer fee just in interest. Thanks H&G

Liverpool are set to be offered a player-plus-cash deal for Javier Mascherano as Barcelona intensify their pursuit of the Argentine midfielder.

Mascherano has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, with old boss Rafael Benitez the original favourite to take the 26-year-old to Inter Milan from Liverpool.

However, Barca recently emerged as front-runners when the Italian giants ruling themselves out of a move. The Catalan club are keen to make a defensive midfielder addition following the sale of Yaya Toure, and Mascherano would fit the bill perfectly were it not for the €20 million asking price.

The La Liga giants do not want to part with such money for the player, and will hope to twist Roy Hodgson's arm with an exchange that involves former Arsenal midfielder Alex Hleb.

Spanish papers report that Josep Guardiola will make his move this summer, and Mundo Deportivo suggests that Barca will offer €9.5 million plus midfielder Hleb in a bid to secure the services of the former West Ham United midfielder.

Belarus international Hleb recently enjoyed success on loan at Stuttgart and was highly-regarded during his time with the Gunners. Life at the Nou Camp has been less enjoyable for the 29-year-old, and a move could reinvigorate the player's club career.

Where would Hleb play when we've already got Cole? And €9.5m only? :-X
