I wonder how Mascherano will feel if he´ll end up staying with us. How many years does he have left on his contract?
As Avvy said , it's two years - its up at the end of the 11/12 season apparently, so this time next year it has less than a year to go.
And in January it will be less than eighteen months.
Love him as I do, we really need to be getting shut this window as he clearly won't be renewing, or it will run down too far and his value will come tumbling down.

Not convinced Vlad.

One way or another there is a deal being done for the clubs ownership prior to the 2011/2012 season which makes the fiscal side of things of lesser importance just now. If we take it that there will be a deal done by that point then the only other area that needs to be addressed is our position on the table - ie. top 4. We have to make sure we are part of the CL after this season in order to maximise any opportunities that are available following the change in ownership.

I think keeping Mascher this season would go a long way to improving the liklihood of such an outcome. If allowing his transfer value to drop by 15m meant we were top 4 at the end of the season with a new and improved bank account to attract new players then I'd take that option. I think we'd be foolish not to.

So Mascher = Poulsen + Hleb + Brad Jones

Not quite fuck off.... more literally

may they all give it you in the arse....

Charming language Spanish it really is.

Fuck off would more likely be "vete a la mierda."

But they love the swearing they do. Either of these phrases would serve the purpose quite nicely when it comes to selling players because our owners are cunts.

Agree in principle, but what if he's so naffed off at being denied a move for the second summer running that his form goes all to cock?

And where the heck have you been anyway?

His value is already lying halfway down the hill getting grass kicked on it by spotty little boys.

I wouldn't sell for a penny less than 25M. He would be worth more to us playing in the first team this season and getting us back into the top 4.

If the money comes in early enough and there's time to do a few more deals to strengthen the team then I would flog him. I would mind getting in a lesser player Poulsen if it frees up funds to get in Figueroa. Overall our squad would look much stronger.

Using http://bit.ly/cnlN3s for exch rate: Christian Poulsen fee is £4.5m. £2.24m now, £2.26m in July 2011 with up to £990k of add-ons. #LFC

From AnfieldRoad on Twitter.
4.5M is actually a really good fee. I also would love us to pay the other 1mil add-on as that would mean he has done well for us

Is Mascher's unhappiness is really just an extension of his wife not settling, the club should just pay 5,000 pounds a week to a couple of her dearest friends back home, on the condition that they move to Liverpool for a year. And if Mrs. Masch still isn't settled, everyone in Liverpool should learn to speak Spanish.

I don't see how we finish top 4 without him.

Hes not happy himself, remember his sad story about staring at Insua from his tower.

He feels they would be happier in Spain or Italy, I dont think there is any point slagging him off over it its his life.

Well when he is under contract with our club, i dont think its fair for him to be whoring himself around to other teams especially after what our club did for him.

We should have known we were paying Insua too much at that point.

"How can he afford a fucking tower?", we should have queried.

Last year we finished 7th with him.

He's a great loss alright but he's not the end all be all with regards to our chances of a top position.

Come on, Kristian...

Alonso's departure was a major, but not the only factor.

In a season where very few players gave it their all, Mascher's was one name that was fairly consistent (after he'd settled down from his probable disappointment at not being allowed to leave)

I'm not blaming Masher at all was only pointing out that he wouldn't 'secure us' anything as last Season perfectly showed as their are many factors influencing.

Hence I'm not going to say next year at the same time: Look, Poulsen was better than Masher' after we have paved our way back in the top four this coming Season with him in the squad.

Masher secured us a place in Europe this season pretty much single-handed. He was light years ahead of any other outfield player in the second half of the season and plugged any number of gaps. We may only be in the Europa League this time, but dipping out of European competition altogether would have been a big loss financially, both in its own right and in terms of our chances of attracting the right buyer.

I think Mascher's too proud to let that happen. He might consider it or even determine to behave in that manner but once he crossed the white line and the whistle went I think he'd be unable to carry through; he's just one of those people who gives it his all through sheer competitive nature.

Been drowned in merger work and duel diligence plus I'm doing my MBA just now; I think it all started to catch up with me towards the end of last season. The Cole transfer sort of attracted me back on and I've been trying to maintain it in order to keep some semblance of balance :-\. I must admit I sympathise with Maschers predicament - I expect to have to leave these surrounds shortly for the sake of the other half. After that I'll probably have more time to visit 6CM and less money available to do anything else. You'll be sick of me soon enough. 😉
