Masherano's replacement

Status
Not open for further replies.
Because currently everyone is now talking of 20M - which is a rubbish bid for a player of Masher's calibre. As I said, if they don't come up with a minimum of 25 up to 30M then keep him for another season or sell for 20M in January and 10-12M next Summer. However if we have new owners who are looking to splash the cash, as has been intimated, and we are doing well up to January, then maybe Masher will persuade his wife it may be a good idea to stay, too many ifs and buts at the moment though.

But do we really want to have a grumpy Mascherano moping about the pitch for 3 months before he actually starts playing well?
cf last year.

We should demand Davide Santon + 15 to 20 million pounds. Yaya Toure went for 30 million pounds and Masher has 18 more months left on his contract. I don't see why we should let him go on the cheap.

If that were to happen, we would have fixed our LB problem + have 15 to 20 million pound that can go straight to fund another CM.

We can go with that Squad till January and think about that back-up striker then.

Isn't Santon a RB?

He can play both positions like Lahm.

In case he gets injured and deal collapses leaving us 25 million short for any targets we had in mind.
No not short of 25M for targets .... if he's injured and they don't take him then, when he recovers, we have a world class DM in our team until at least January. We are getting enough from our sales (plus the reported 12M budget) to get the other players we need (plenty of threads on this already). I would be more than happy to keep Masher for this season and sell him next Summer for 10-12M. I would fully expect us to finish in the top 3 if that happened.

I would love us to fuck Inter & Rafa over on this but at the moment it's looking like they are the ones doing our rear end.
How? I disagree with that as he is our player and we have set the valuation for him and if they dont pay it we continue to have mascherano and they do not. Its not like we are going to turn around to another club and be like ok mascherano wants to leave, please put in a bid even if its 10-15mil, we need the money for other targets. its either he leaves on our terms or he stays and plays for our club. If he doesnt like it and refuses to play, then he can rot in the ressies for 2 years without pay.

He doesnt want to play for our team anymore, no matter how good he is what is the point of keeping him if he is unhappy? So i say we give him 2 options. Either tell him to tell benitez to fork out the money or he stays at our club and plays with his heart for our shirt and if he doesnt like that option then he can rot in the reserves and lose 2 of his playing years doing nothing and then not pay him as he doesnt want to play for us.

We won't sell Mascherano on the cheap. He is obviously a class player and we don't have to sell if it ain't on our terms. Moratti stated that they can't do a deal for the reported 30 million Euros valuation unless they sell first.

It looks like Hodgson is standing firm on price and will get his way. He has a fairly solid relationship with Inter. I just hope that we have a plan in place where players have been identified and negotiations taken place for Javier inevitable exit so that we are not caught with our pants down especially if the deals happens in the last week of the window.

Fuck Gyan off.
Why is that?

Big, strong pacy lad with a goal-scoring record? I wouldn't mind him and he'd be worth a punt in the region of £10M. Better bet than say Crouch or Cole IMO.

Admittedly though it's hard to come by any REAL obvious choices as back-up for Torres. Either they are to good to be benched or not good enough to trusted upon should Torres get injured.

Happy tears I take it?

Having followed Urby for quite some time now I think it's safe for me to say that he's one of the most promising attacking leftbacks in the game. He's extremely fast and highly skilful. A bit like Glen Johnson really only much faster.

Poulsen will get the job done.

Gyan is a big strong lad who is suited to play upfront on his own. Maybe a bit of a risky bet but remember he's only beeing brought in as backup as would anyone with Torres in the squad. Are there any better options outthere?

Inter appear to have given up on Javier Mascherano, sending the Liverpool midfielder closer to Barcelona.

He had made it clear he wanted to reunite with Rafa Benitez at San Siro and even went so far as learning Italian during the World Cup this summer.

However, this week Nerazzurri President Massimo Moratti decided he was too expensive at €30m, especially with Douglas Maicon now off the market.

According to Catalan newspaper ‘El Mundo Deportivo,’ Barcelona have dived right in to take advantage of the situation.

Their own bid for Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas failed, so they would be willing to pay Liverpool’s requested sum for Mascherano.

They would also be able to hand over Aleksandar Hleb as part of the transfer package.

“The player would like to talk to Barca. After all, the sums requested are half of what they put on the table for Fabregas,†agent Horacio Zandonadi told Com Radio.

“Mascherano has not renewed his contract and the club promised to release him if he requested a transfer.

“The situation is much easier than a year ago, when Barcelona already made an offer for Javier.

“Many clubs like Mascherano, as he is a great player at the highest level.€

Has he actually made a transfer request though?

As I remember, Hodgson told him he 'could leave' but that was it.

Emanuelson is shit at defending (I think he's been playing as a LW for some time now) and at 24 can't get in the Dutch squad. I'd pass

Poulsen - we certainly could and should do better here

Gyan doesn't score a lot and from what I've seen simply isn't very good

And surely Emanuelson and Gyan combined wouldn't cost around 25M?

Could this motherfucker just shut up about his 'dream' moves!!

Barca was his dream last year.

This year Inter is his dream.

Oops, they can't negotiate a fee, now Barca is his dream again.

Just fuck off already.

I hope one night he eats a lot of cheese and the next week gets a transfer from Liverpool to a weird pink island where all the monkeys can talk, and they spend all day sitting on the beach eating burgers, drinking cocktails and discussing 70s American cop shows.

I am fucking fed up with left backs. We have had to many, and noone can actually defend. They are so poor at defending that we have a habit of playing two of them in matches to cover up for each other.

Bring on Emmanuelson.

the problem with the left backs we've had in the past is when they have ventured upfield they haven't had the pace to get back on the counter which has left us exposed. the last good left back we had was riise when he first arrived and then in his last couple of years he was dire but dire is a relative term when think about insua.
