Good stuff, exactly the type of signing we regret, free or not.. Bring on Mata with Sterling and Suso as cover.

Newcastle United have trumped Liverpool for Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux.

The 25-year-old will formally complete a Bosman free transfer move to St James' Park on July 1 after signing a five-year deal.

Toon stepped in for Marveaux after Liverpool dithered over a disappointing medical.

The Magpies carried out their own checks and are confident that will not be an issue, and have snapped up their third close-season signing.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said: "It's a great coup to have signed Sylvain, who has received interest from a number of other clubs.

"He may not be well known to many of our fans, but he is a real talent and a player we have been keeping an eye on for some time.

"It's been a good couple of days for us on the transfer front."

Hardly dirthering is it? Definate bullet dodged if the best he could do is newcastle.

If Parry was still here people would be fuming with him for this.

I don't know why we missed out but I don't really care either

Marveaux scored 16 goals in over 100 games for rennes and nolan scored 12 in 32 last season..

Great bit of buisness in the last few days for the geordie maggots.

I really can't wait for pre season to start. Would love to see how Sterling, Suso, Coady, Wisdom, Raheem etc, do in our pre-season friendlies.

I bet the cunt turns out to be half decent and fully fit fo' life now.

I anticipate an £12m offer for him in 12 months time :🙂

NEWCASTLE United have swooped to sign exciting left-winger Sylvain Marveaux from under the noses of Liverpool.

United made their move for the former France under-21 international late last night - clinching a five-year deal for the midfielder at 2am today.

Marveaux was on the brink of moving to Anfield but the move collapsed amid reports that the player, who missed most of the season with a groin injury, had failed his medical.

He has not played since November after suffering the injury playing for Rennes against Brest.

But Newcastle insiders have rubbished those claims, and the player has strongly denied that there are any long-standing fitness problems.

He said the reports “disgusted” him and he had a very thorough medical at Newcastle which did not flag up any problems.

United found out that the move to Liverpool had broken down late yesterday evening, flying the player to Newcastle to talk terms.

And he agreed to the move in the small hours of today, ensuring more good news in the transfer market.

why do the media seem united in the fact we lost out? fuckers

I will take it as a sign of good things to come if we avoid our annual free failure signing

His agent has probably been busy briefing them, whereas we aren't bothered one way or the other (a) because we do our transfer business behind closed doors now and (b) because TBF nobody's going to believe anyway that someone chose that bunch of wasters ahead of us if he didn't have to.

Plus the fact that parts of the media have a lot of money invested in the Mancs.

Re: Re: Marveaux

Never know, we might have said he'd be third choice behind mata and downing

Didn't take him long to switch his attention to another club after Liverpool's doctor deemed him to be a crock.

Fuck him.

Yes ... strange that only now is he being described as an exciting winger!

It's definitely silly season alright, step 1 get linked with a heap of over priced shite, step fail to sign them... i'm really hoping step 3 is sign some class player without the press getting wind of it before the event.

Or of course it may well be that just like in seasons gone by we are fucking skinted out due to deadwood.

By the way i suspect that Skys Manure shares were prolly bought by the Glazers no??

Again why were we linked with a journeyman like this. Can't you do better Damian with all your stats and connections than downing, marveux, Adam. The judges are still out - but the jury is restless at the signs...

I wonder if dalglish knew how shit this cunt is, but rather than get into an argument with his director and the owners he just slipped the doctor a couple of notes to take care of things

That's incorrect.

Have a look through the threads about this lad before the infamous medical; we were hardly signing the cunt's praises were we? Nobody was even half-interested in him.

Step 1: Steal people's underpants.
Step 2: We don't know.
Step 3: Profit.

Barrett's stole my line!

TonyBarretTimes Tony Barrett
Before Marveaux, was Frank Worthington the last player to fail a Liverpool medical? Even Aquilani passed his!
[/quote]

John Beresford failed a medical with us in the early 90s too.

Not bothered about Marveaux really. We've had enough crocks over the years
