Newcastle busy on the phone this morning to all the North East hacks to confirm major signing of Sylvain Marveaux...#nufc #lfc

What is Skys problem with us? I have to ask. We reject the move because of his medical, and this is what they write;

Newcastle United have beaten Liverpool to the signing of French midfielder Sylvain Marveaux.

The 25-year-old had appeared on course to sign for the Anfield club, on a Bosman transfer.

But now Newcastle have nipped in to poach Marveaux and offer him a five-year deal which he now looks set to accept.

The left sided midfielder is now due on Tyneside to finalise the move, which will shock Liverpool who had presumed they had his signature in the bag.

Newcastle looked at Marveaux earlier in the year, but it was presumed they had given up when Liverpool made their move - but that was clearly not the case.

Marveaux is now set to become Newcastle's third signing of the summer, and he is the third French-born player to sign following on from Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba.

"It is a great coup to have signed Sylvain," said Pardew.

"He may not be well known to many of our fans but he is a real talent."

What's the odds on him missing the start of the season for the jordies ha they must be desperate

post of the day.

excellent work zlatan

I'm fucking made up. He failed his medical - nothing to do with personal terms. If the Toon want to waste their money let them

He's not going to say he failed his medical as if you fail one here you must be close to death!

The Geordies can have him.

It's really surprising the Toon want him; you'd have thought they'd be a bit more wary after Owen.

Apparently not, Avvy. The Ba medical had some issues to. They went on to complete the deal though.

Ba, who suffers from a degenerative knee condition previously failed a medical at Stoke City before being taken on by now relegated West Ham last season. On the problem, Pardew told Radio Newcastle:

“I don’t think it’s any mystery that we’re getting close to tying that up.”

“He’s a player who’s got a natural eye for a goal and my connections at West Ham, as you would imagine, are very very good and I know everything about him, and therefore I’m pretty relaxed that he’s gonna be a success at Newcastle if we can get him.”

With a note of caution though, the Cockney supremo added:

“That’s a big if at the moment because there’s some big hurdles to get across.

“There’s obviously other suitors and there is an issue about his medical and there has been in the past.

“We’ve got to overcome those things, but hopefully he can join the club.
I think he’ll be a big success for us.

My crystal ball tells me that this guy will never suffer another injury again and will be massively successful at Newcastle..........in 2012/13 in the championship.

Aren't Sky owned by News Corporation, who have a large slab of shares in ManUre?

I'm confused as to how I should feel about the loss of someone who never joined and who I know nothing about and who is valued at 'free'.

It's all so confusing nowadays.

As Sunny said, bullet dodged.
5 year deal for an injury prone twat, who apperantly wanted 60k a week aswell. Id rather give one of our younger lads a chance.

Raheem or sterling will do us proud

Either will be great options.

The whole Marveaux thing looked iffy to me from the start - not only a stretcher case but also a "winger" who always comes inside, so not likely to give us that width we're after.

I wonder how much the King actually regrets this latest development. 😉

I was somewhat excited about the potential signing. His injury record worried me and he's definitely not worth £60 000 a week. There's better options out there.
Not Downing though.

Maybe he is on a pay as you play deal?

I went to bed hearing he failed a medical, / said terms were an issue. I wake up he's a Geordie. Now that's a quick move. Good agent. But why are we still in for these journeymen Damian?

Might it be a statto thing, i.e.that the stats suggest Marveaux is one of those undervalued talents whom FSG have a policy of looking out for?
