You guys like looking at stats right ?

Do you really think if Zubi is the answer to our DM issues ? - I get that he is a more of a technical controller type - but I was watching this channel, and they were comparing his stats over 90mins in games played against Wataru and give or take differences between leagues/teams - it looks like Wataru's stats are well above in most areas over Zubi stats.

Given that Slot has not played a single PL game do you think the style he wants to play will fit into the PL like he seems so sure of it, and we still lack the athletic type DM that I was hoping for. Given all this I don't think we should be letting go of Endo, as I think Slot might realize that a physical presence and a proper defence minded player like Endo is better needed in more games than what he is predicting/realizes.

MORON

Yeah, stats wise, Endo's catches the eye.

However, as you mentioned, it's a different league and he played in a different tactical set up too. I believe Merino does more of the hard/dirty job -->

Merino vs. Zubi
recoveries of possession: 197 vs 169
total passes attempted: 1380 vs 1526
accurate passes: 1068 vs 1318
all duels for possession of the ball where possession was won: 326 vs 125
tackles won: 43 vs 27

Gotta see how Slot makes the double pivot work, if Zubi does arrive.

Martin Zubimendi latest: Clubs ‘working on’ agreement – Liverpool could offer players

Liverpool’s efforts to sign Martin Zubimendi will continue with sources in Spain claiming talks are ongoing with Real Sociedad – including a possible swap deal.

All involved wait with bated breath as Zubimendi mulls over his future at Real Sociedad, having emerged as a priority target for Liverpool.
While it had been hoped following the news of the Reds’ pursuit that a deal would be wrapped up swiftly, the midfielder’s current club are attempting to persuade him to stay.

Zubimendi travelled with the Sociedad squad for their friendly against Union Berlin on Friday night, indicating that a move is not close.

But according to Spanish journalist Jorge C. Picon, the two clubs are “still working on reaching an agreement” for the 25-year-old’s transfer.

Picon claims that Zubimendi “has already given the thumbs up to the English team,” though Sociedad will be hoping for a late change of heart.
Interestingly, the Relevo reporter adds that “the possibility of [Liverpool] including footballers in the deal has been put on the table.”

Though there is a €60 million (£51.5m) buyout clause in Zubimendi’s contract, that would need to be paid in full in order to be activated.

Typically, clubs will pay the overall fee over a number of years – often referred to as amortisation – as this is more useful in balancing their books.

Sociedad could hold firm on the valuation set when they agreed terms with the player himself, but clearly Liverpool are exploring other possibilities in talks.

It could be that the two clubs agree a higher eventual fee but with a more favourable payment structure – for example £55 million paid over Zubimendi’s proposed five-year contract at £11 million per year.

Modern day fans don't value hard graft, what makes them happy is seeing 11 fifa pro streeters on the pitch - that's essentially how their football logic works, it's why the likes of Gini and Hendo were never appreciated and it's why the same people don't appreciate Endo.

City Arsenal Utd Spurs Newcastle, when all these clubs came to Anfield......Endo showed them who was boss.

Zubimendi is particularly good at retaining the ball, and only lost possession 9.1 times per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. Of midfielders who played at least 1,000 minutes, only 13 averaged fewer losses of possession per 90. It is a metric that should be taken with a pinch of salt, given players who regularly attempt more adventurous passes often record higher numbers when it comes to losing possession.

That doesn’t mean Zubimendi is too careful, though; in fact, 467 of his 1,535 passes were forward (30.4%), a higher percentage than, for example, Luka Modric (26.8%).

He averaged 51.7 passes per 90 in La Liga in 2023-24, with an accuracy of 86.4%.
That’s close to the same numbers he produced in the previous two years when he really began making a name for himself.

Real Sociedad averaged 55.5% possession in La Liga last season, but Zubimendi would likely see even more of the ball at Liverpool, who averaged 61.3% possession in the Premier League, while Slot’s Feyenoord averaged 62.3% in the Eredivisie. The Dutchman was heard to shout “Kill them with passes!” during a Liverpool open training session in the U.S.

It’s not just in La Liga where Zubimendi has impressed. His first time competing in the UEFA Champions League last season went as well as could be expected. La Real reached the last 16 before being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, but Zubimendi handled the pressure well – in more ways than one.

He completed 328 of his 377 passes under pressure in the Champions League last season (87%), higher than his overall pass accuracy in La Liga.

1.jpg

He also executed 65 line-breaking passes in the Champions League, 15 of which came in an impressive showing in the 3-1 home win over Benfica in the group stage.

2.jpg

In comparison to Liverpool’s main midfield options last season, Zubimendi had greater duel success, winning 54.6%, with Mac Allister the only Reds midfielder to end the campaign with more than 50% success. Meanwhile, only Gravenberch averaged fewer passes and a lower pass accuracy, but the Dutchman mostly played in a more advanced role on the left of a midfield three.

Comparing Zubimendi to Endo, the numbers on the surface don’t show that much difference. It has to be remembered that Endo’s numbers came from playing for Liverpool while Zubimendi’s were in a different system at Sociedad, but the Japan international had a higher pass accuracy in the league (88.4% to 86.4%) and more chances created from open play per 90 (0.8 to 0.5), though more of Zubimendi’s passes were forward (30.4% to 28.1%). Endo did lose possession more often per 90 (11.2 to 9.1), though, and was dribbled past by an opponent more often per 90 (2.2 to 0.6).

That points to how good Zubimendi can be in defensive situations. He’s not an aggressive defensive midfielder in the mould of a Javier Mascherano, but he does enough to help his team break opposition play up. As you can see below, he won 81 of 157 ground duels in La Liga in 2023-24 (51.6%) compared to Endo’s 83 ground duels won out of 201 in the Premier League (41.3%).

========

Zubimendi may not get stuck in as frequently as others in his role yet he is difficult to bypass when he does commit. Indeed, he averaged 1.7 tackles per 90 in La Liga last season, returning a success rate of 72.1% in the process. Compared to Fabinho in his final campaign at Liverpool, the 30-year-old averaged 2.2 tackles per 90 but in turn; managed just a 63.1% tackle success rate.

Zubimendi may not have the physical presence of Fabinho however that clearly doesn't stop him from winning the ball back in a key area of the pitch.
This is further evident in that the former has won possession in the midfield third more times (235) than any other player in the last two La Liga seasons.

You gotta laugh.

"the delay is due to the player’s decision and the structure of any deal."

So what part of the deal have we done in the last 48 hours? I bet Hughes is still waiting on Zubi to accept his whatsapp request.

Important to consider that was for Real Sociedad.

from the spanish side there’s no rush though so that’s what you have to hope is slowing this

the player will want to make it seem like a tough decision and the club will want to give the impression they tried everything

Fwiw he’s on the bench and not starting their friendly in Germany. Kick off in 30 mins.

I remember having a sparkling shiraz at a wine tasting. It was really, really good. Interesting. I haven't seen a bottle in the wild, I haven't been looking really, but I'd but one if I spotted it.

If you want to be totally dumbfounded…. This is also Shiraz!!!

@MomoWASright @dee just think if they turned that into sparkling!!!

And here’s a winery with not only a sparkling Shiraz but a Pet-Nat made from Shiraz, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay & Riesling all in one bottle!!!

I’ve never had a white Shiraz before. I’m intrigued.

I'm assuming it's just wages, length of contract etc that his agent is working on with LFC.
If Klopp was still here the length of contract should be no more tham 4 years for a midfielder...as by year 3 they will be fucked. But as its Slot we can afford maybe a 5 to 6 year deal taking him to the old age of 31 maybe ?

Good signing this.

Kinda miss having a decent Spanish player.

He's Rodri lite, nowhere near Thiago mind, but he'll do for now.
I need to see the merchendise perform against Stokw on a cold winters night, and then against our biggest rivals. Not convinced, and based on the stats the gap per 90mins is too wide between him and Endo from a DM point of view. Even taking into account differences between team and league.

Still wondering if we will see him on a warm summer night in Berlin today

I'm not reading another word about this Lucas-regen until he's signed a Liverpool contract.
No, but you will be refreshing all manner of web pages looking for that iconic picture of Slot's first signing..living in hope that it will suddenly appear.

I think seeing the compilation from this guy, I have to agree with @StevieM that we should keep Endo.
Towards the latter end of the game, getting a destroyer on to kill the game is a good option.
CJ is a no show for at least a 1/3 of games and we are likely to see injuries in other parts of the squad. I really can't see us singing more than more one player.
