South Africa are building a quality white ball cricket team - explosive batsmen, excellent pace bowlers and maharaj is developing into an effective spinner. Maybe the T20 world cup is a bit too soon. But if the talents start clicking and develop further - should be one of the favorites for the world cup in the future.
Still rather hope for MK II of the Smith laid test and ODI teams ... Kallis, Smith, AB with Steyn, Morkel etc leading the bowling.

I think in white ball cricket, if your current team develops as expected they will be a better unit than your previous teams. Same way as India under Dhoni. Their batting did not have the class of their predecessor team - Young Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly. But India under Dhoni was a way more effective white ball team despite lacking the batting pedigree of their predecessors. I feel a similar story developing with SA.
For practical purposes, we are now out of the Asia cup. The same problems remain. We spend a good part of the year speaking about the high-risk approach blah blah. Ishan Kishan seemed to be the preferred opener and he was developing well. Suddenly, mysteriously, he is out of the squad and we bring in the tried and tested and failed Rohit, Rahul, and Kohli top three. Our management seems clueless in handling Dinesh Karthik. One game he is, then out of two games.
Maybe @dmishra has a better understanding of what Indian cricket's white ball strategy is. But from my point of view, they look clueless and lacking in vision.
