The European one. No one takes the Aus one anymore.

No ambitions to coach, I don't have the patience. Just interested in the background to it all. It's a pity really, cos I'd be a fucking brilliant coach.
Ha ha I think you'd be similar to Keano, no patience for players who don't give 200%

I have no patience for half the cunts taking the course Dreamy nevermind any players.

Example:

You get taught by someone who know their shit, sit in a room with everyone else taking the course, you run through it in a classroom then you're taken out to the training field. Standard fucking stuff, but well run I'll give them that. You're then taken back in and given scenario's and you've got to be able to respond quickly. Seems simple enough.

At the last session I was at the scenario we got hit with was: 'You're away from home, 1-1 with 30 minutes gone and your #8 gets sent off. You need to gain at least a point from the game. You play a standard 4-4-2 and you're playing against a 4-5-1. Describe how you'd alter your team's shape and approach to get a result from the game'

Now if you'd been awake for any part of the day's session previous, this would be fairly straightforward. We'd effectively been told what to do ahead of time.

Some of the fucking answers these cunts in the class gave to this blew my mind. Just complete utter morons. "I'd instruct my players to antagonise their most easily wound up player with continual niggly kicks and fouls in the hope he reacts and gets himself sent off, thereby creating a 10v10 situation" was my particular favourite.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Constructive criticism please Ryan" my arse, if you're that fucking stupid then the least of your problems is me spewing laughter in your face.

don't pro coaches need to have these badges these days ? makes you wonder how alot of coaches passed the course .

and if you're thought this stuff and scenarios will you not just come up against a coach who goes " they're down to ten , we're playing 4-5-1 , they need a draw , this was on page 253 of the manual , i know what they're going to do . I need to apply page 254 " .

Most don't pass the course thankfully.

so what's the text book answer ? Does it not depend on alot more factors than them just playing 4-5-1 ...like how far up are their wide players playing , how are the middle 3 setup , how fast is their main striker etc etc .

Ha ha in fairness even to someone who comes across as clueless as I do that is laughable. You must have snapped a fair few pencils during the theory.

I train adults for a living and some of the things people come out with in training that are paid alot of money to do their jobs is incredible.

Sometimes it takes everything I have not to laugh at the top of the class.

I'm liking Ryan & DB's little bonding session here. Couples therapy is really doing the business for them.

You can tell that deep down they really love each other.

I suppose for every Basil Fawlty and Manuel moment when we see Ryan hitting DB over the head with a table spoon they have 10 other moments when they're more like Pat and Frank Butcher.

Well there is no textbook answer. That said there are still more wrong things to do than right things, but you've got to be able to stand up, present your case as to what you'd do, and argue it rationally. If you don't know what you're talking about or propose something absurd, you'll fail.

There are though about half a dozen things that you absolutely must do in that situation, and if you don't point them out you're largely fucked.

- Notice the clues in the scenario; 1)15 mins to go to half-time, so get your side set up to handle the 15 minutes, and then you can get them in, talk to them, re-set the side, etc. 2) They're playing 5 in the middle so when you do get the ball, attack down the wings. Shift the pacier of your two strikers to the wing and instruct him to gain yardage everytime you attack.
- Narrow the gaps between your 3 (or 4) lines. Effectively condense the space between your lines of defenders, forwards, midfielders, so you're one tight block shifting around the pitch.
- Let their defenders have the ball and let them pass it around at the back. No point in expanding the little energy you'll have.
- Slow the game down. Take an age over throw-in's, goalkicks, etc.
- Play your striker in the hole. Waste of time having him up on the last line of defenders because your midfield will be deep, and you're just increasing the gap.
- Break the game into 15-20 minute gaps, all that usual shit.

After that, you can argue the case for whatever formation you like, but if you don't get components of the above in place, you're done.

Ryan I (and Im sure others) enjoy insight like that. Would be great if you discussed tactics like that more frequently.

You might even get compliments on your own instead of having to pat yourself on the back all the time.
