Man Utd Build Up & Match Thread

I fucking hate Spurs...

The last thing we needed was for them to roll over and boosts Manure's confidence...

The last two seasons aside, it's the story of Spurs' lives, they've always rolled over for United, their record there is a joke, particularly when Fergie was at United.

Already have butterflies ahead of this game. Massive massive game. This is why I fucking love football - you watch games knowing so much rides on the outcome and knowing the rollercoaster of emotions you will go through.

I seriously missed this under Woy/Kenny and even though we're not challenging like we were last season, going into games against our rivals knowing it gives us a chance to over take them in the league.

We simply have to pump them after the away game.

I was 100% confident until I saw what they did to Spurs.

Spurs did that to themselves, but United do deserve credit, they took full advantage of them, and unfortunately for us, has set up a mouth watering tie.

United had 3 shots on target and 3 goals ... that was down to a keeping error and a really really shite defence (and totally absent midfield). Even then United couldn't capitalise on just how shite Spurs were. Considering how really awful their defence, especially Walker & Dyer, played United really should have done more.

I really don't think United were as good as most are making them out to be, the second half was a total non-entity. There are a huge number of United fans amongst commentators and pundits, creaming themselves and even Gary Neville was saying "this is the formation, LvG has found it" ! Well come Sunday we'll show them this is not 'it'.

I hope we press them like demons from the off. Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Lallana and Coutinho attacking in packs. I hope it forces Phil Jones and Daley Blind to spontaneously combust with the sheer intensity of it all.

I'd play Simon Kingolet of course. Can, Skrtel and Sakho as the back three. Moreno LWB.
Allen and Henderson in the middle. Sturridge up top with Coutinho and Lallana buzzing around him. My only tough decision is who to play at RWB. I'm not too keen on Sterling playing there but it does mean we can fit all our sexy attacking players into the one team. Gerrard to come on after 70 mins.

Sterling should play at RWB, because as Ryan pointed out, he'd be up against Blind or Rojo or whoever United play at left-back. He should get a lot of joy down that side.

I'm 110% confident on this one, have been for weeks.

We're simply going to terrify their shaky defence every time we pour forward or press in packs high up the pitch. Meanwhile our defence and keeper are full to the brim with no-nonsense confidence.

I'm going for a 4-0 smashing.

I can see the benefit in having someone fast coming off the bench, but not enough to bench Sturridge or Sterling. Ibe would be perfect if he's fit.

I'm seriously reviewing the need for a serious amount of "reverse-jinxyness" in this thread.

I wouldn't be trying to cram Sturridge, Lallana, Sterling and Coutinho into the team, just to waste Sterling at RWB. Personally would be inclined to bench Sturridge. I think he was good in the second half against Swansea, but I think the workrate of Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling up top is required to put Uniteed under real pressure at the back. Always nice to have the option to bring on game changers like Sturridge and Gerrard too. They could both make a real difference from the bench. I'd go with Johnson and Moreno in the wing back roles as they're are defenders first or foremost and I reckon United will try hurt us down the flanks.

I'm old fashioned enough to believe that the team playing better football will be the team that wins. Yes, it's not always the case, but when it comes to us v the scum it usually is.

And we are easily playing better football at the moment. As mentioned already, stopping Rooney and Carrick is essential. TBH I'm quietly confident about this one.

Nah, these are usually the games where Sturridge puts his chances away clinically. Sterling less so.

Exactly, the game at Old Trafford should be a testament to this, we were arguably the better team, at the very least we matched United's performance, the difference was our not so clinical winger couldn't beat that super human goalkeeper they have, we need our best finisher on hand for this game, we need Sturridge.

I reckon United will try hurt by bombing the ball up to Screech. Jobbers.

The legend that's Didi:

“United played very well against Tottenham on Sunday, but that’s one game. Liverpool have been doing that for three months, week in, week out.

What I'm most concerned with is Martin Atkinson - is he going to come out and dick us again? After that, it's the condition of the pitch, as Van Gaal's Fellaini 101 Plan isn't affected by that. After that it's Fellaini blinding one (or two) of our CBs and getting away with it, and then Young diving all over the place.

^^ this 100% though id play markovic ahead of Johnson..

I'm confident. So we'll probably lose.
We either overtake them or we remain two behind or we end the day 5 points behind.
I win would be ace. But we must not lose.

Liverpool have received a major boost after Lucas Leiva was passed fit to return to full training.
The Brazil midfielder hasn’t featured for the Reds since he was forced off with a thigh injury in the Merseyside derby at Goodison on February 7.
However, six weeks on Lucas has now rejoined Brendan Rodgers’ squad and is ready to play a part in Liverpool’s pursuit of a Champions League spot and FA Cup glory.
Rodgers will decide over the coming days whether Lucas will be involved in Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United at Anfield

Blind and Young on one wing and Di Maria & Valencia on the other. Contain those wings and we'll win because United don't / can't go through the centre as they don't have the players for it with Rooney up top.

I'd go for Markovic over Lallana because he has the pace to stay with Young. Same goes for Moreno on the other wing, though he must stop fouling.

Sterling does much better when he has cover behind him and doesn't have to commit himself to defence so he should go RW and not RWB. Regardless of him not having hit top form yet you can't leave our best, most accurate, finisher out of the team so Studge up front.

Yes. This team for me too.

Gerrard & Lallana on the bench for some actual legitimate bench options for the first time in a while!

Lallana was on talk sport just after 5, they asked him if Liverpool are a better team than united, he flat out avoided the question.

He also said Raheem is dead down to earth and everything Henderson does as a captain is natural that's just the way he is.

Also listening to Lallana while driving is bad for your health, his voice could send a raging bull to sleep.

Is Kingolet a new nickname?

(Not bagsying that one).

I should hope not. It's fucking appalling.
