United are one of the richest, most successful, famous and widely supported clubs on the planet. I'm not sure what you find so confusing
How about that most of the top managers are supposedly not going to United. There, wasn't that difficult was it, can't imagine why you couldn't suss that out yourself. Oh yes I can - you were more intent on dripping sarcasm.

Interestingly on RedCafe, from more than 1,000 votes, just under 60% do not want Mourinho. I'd have thought that they would be desperate, after Moyes & LvG, for someone proven at the very top of the sport, to come in and save their asses.

I don't think opinions at OT about Mourinho have shifted that much since Ginsoak left. The image-conscious ones fear he'll do too much damage to the brand, while the footballing guardians - who weren't wild about LVG - see Mourinho as anti-football. On top of that, Bobby Charlton would probably quit in protest if Maureen arrived, he despises him. So while it's not impossible, it's not the shoo-in some of Mourinho's advisors seem to think.

Yes, I would be surprised if this happens this season. First of all I don't think Mourinho is in the right state of mind right now to jump into another big job (he may think otherwise, but someone should know better – his last few months at Chelsea have been nothing but a total emotional meltdown) and besides, it would look very weird for all parties if an iconic manager of one big club takes over one of its rivals mid-season. Plus there is the issue of Mata and any other current United players Mourinho may not like – it would be stupid to invite him unless you're prepared to do major surgery on the squad, which is impossible to do mid-season anyway.

All in all, if LVG is fired, I would expect Giggs to be given a chance until the end of the season.
