My take on it is that BR bought Aspas and Alberto to see if Ibe, Sterling etc had it in them to up their game and push even harder to get into the first team. And it worked. Well played, sir!

Back to Alberto, I am fairly confident he will develop into a good player, maybe a very good player. But I think he will be a late bloomer as he has an unusual skill-set and it would take a couple more years to put it all together. Right now he seems to be at the same place as before – getting playing time in cup games and odd league games for Malaga. When he plays he is entrusted with playmaking duties and all the set-pieces, so clearly everybody can see his talent but somehow this doesn't translate to playing regularly in meaningful games, so far.

The writing was always on the wall for alberto and aspaz, when we signed them I remember ballbag saying on revista that they were great signings and Rodgers was very astute buying them.

Alberto I didn't know, watched intently and was none the wiser when he left. Aspas I really thought would be a very useful squad player - at least - and was amazed at how awful he was.

I was convinced Aspas would be a useful Bellamy like squad player who would be a terrier upfront in cup games, for whatever reasons he was comically bad last season, hes actually not that bad he just never adapted. We shouldnt lose too much reselling him because he wasnt that expensive and hes not that old

Alberto I knew nothing about and had no idea what he would be like, I think hes probably going to be a decent player in a couple of years but probably not for us as he will be moved on to free up funds and space in the squad. The reality is that the money we have to spend compared to our rivals we are going to have to gamble on players like these rather than the finished article

I thought Aspas would be boss from the scout reports comparing him to Suarez. Then he turned up with his manbag.

(My phone autocorrects Aspas to Salad)
