I can't help but get all excited when we sign someone new. I'm always convinced they will be ace. It's actually quite pathetic to be honest. Damn my starry eyed optimism.

Not seen anything to get the juices flowing. I reckon he'll fade into obscurity. Hope I'm proved wrong.
Agree. Seen nothing that says he'll make it at Liverpool. Can't get excited by it at all. At least with coutinho he had played in la liga and serie a. This is a division 2 player.

Then he's got something in common with Luis Garcia, who played 2nd division football in Spain for a few years at about the same age.

Oh come on. At 19 he spent a year in the B-team of the best attacking team in the world (and was by all accounts one of its best players) and now he is branded as a "division 2 player?" That's incredibly harsh.

He played as a false 9 in Barcelona B, are we going to hold it against him that Barca decided they at this point they don't need competition for their A-team's false 9 (you know, the one who won 4 Golden Balls in a row)? I can't guarantee that he makes it here, but Luis Alberto is certainly a talent of the highest caliber.

Your last sentence is confusing !

Do I have to state the obvious fact that not all talents make it and that conditions such as finding the right club, the right coach, avoiding injuries and just plain old luck all play a role?

A talent of the highest calibre is the bit that confuses me. He's done nothing at the hghest level, nothing at underage international level. His body of work consists of 11 goals in the second division while playing for the best attacking side.

None of that screams high calibre

From the Mirror

When Luis Alberto signed on for the loan move to Barcelona B, the idea was to get regular football with the conclusion of returning to Sevilla, his parent club, a better player. While he got the regular football, and he’s certainly a better player, the problem for his parent club is that he’s done so well that he now won’t be returning to Sevilla.

It’s been a whirlwind season for the 20-year-old, and his current situation finds himself far removed from the one he was in in Andalucia. He was frustrated at a lack of first team opportunities, coming off the back of several contract disputes and stuck with a general lack of progression as a player.

This was a surprise given at one point he was the star of Sevilla’s cantera, seen as one of the most exciting prospects since Jesus Navas . Luis Alberto too, emerged as a winger, albeit from the left side.

As time went on there he showed his fine creative abilities, and although he isn’t the quickest of players he made up for it with his technical ability, movement and physical strength. With the player lacking motivation with Sevilla’s ‘B’ team however, and those opportunities with the first team difficult to come by, it became apparent a new environment would be better. Barcelona it would be, and there he’s blossomed as many in those early days at Sevilla hoped he would.

Liverpool first started watching the player in October, with their senior scouting team tracking him closely at Miniestadi where Barcelona B plays their home games and even catching a few of their away trips. The Anfield club were of course waiting on Barça’s actions in regards to their option on the deal, and if they decided to take it up the chase would prove futile for the English club. Still, they kept the player under close scrutiny.

The youngster went on to fire in 11 goals and weigh in with 15 assists, offering up both sides of his game. The versatility was apparent too, working in attacking midfield, wide, second striker and false 9 roles for the team. The position of False 9 was one he was particularly impressive in, and the player admitted recently he too was very fond of the role.

Taking up the position meant Luis Alberto didn’t need that speed he lacked, just the intelligent movement and power he’d often shown before. His ability to time his runs, ghost in between defenders and adept control on the ball proved vital in front of goal. He packs a real punch in his shots and over time gradually found better accuracy in them too, bringing his goal scoring tally up across the course of the season.

Luis Alberto’s associating with fellow teammates was another feature of his game too, as he possessed vision and awareness of those around moving around him. His link-up with the highly rated Gerard Deulofeu proved particular enjoyable too as the pair bounced off each other with their complementary attributes.

In terms of negatives aspects his game in general does need plenty of polishing, as we’re talking about a player yet to feature at the highest level in Spain. The series of Spanish imports to La Liga have all experienced La Liga before finding success on these shores, even if it was at a lower placed team like Michu at Rayo Vallecano.

Liverpool, as previously mentioned, have kept track of the player for sometime though and will have identified the areas he needs improving in. There are few of them, and the ability and confidence of the player will go far when navigating such concerns.

€8m is a lot of money for a relatively untested - at the top level – youngster, but what he does possess for that fee is massive potential. Comparisons with Dani Pacheco are expected, but Luis Alberto is a much more advanced work-in-progress upon arriving at Liverpool.

Working with the right coaches, methods and patience there is no doubting the potential can be fulfilled.

Ayre: Luis was top of our list
22nd Jun 2013 - Latest News
Moments after Luis Alberto completed his transfer to Anfield - subject to international clearance - Liverpoolfc.com spoke to managing director Ian Ayre to get his reaction to the deal. Here's what he had to say...

Ian, we've just completed the signing of Luis Alberto, how happy are you that he is now a Liverpool player?
It's fantastic news. He's a player that Brendan identified very early on and the scouting team did a lot of work on watching him. After that the hard work started in terms of getting the deal together, both with his club and his agent. We're always pleased when that comes to fruition. He's a very exciting player and I know Brendan is very excited about it. So hopefully our fans can be too.
What will he bring to the club?
In the lead-up to the transfer window, Brendan made clear the positions he felt we needed to strengthen - and Luis was top of the list in terms of his ability and skills in the position he plays in. He brings all the attributes that the manager wanted for that position and we're very pleased we got the right deal at the right price for the player.
We've had a busy start to the transfer window so far - what does this say about the club and the fact that we are eager to secure our targets early on?
I think the praise goes to all those people in the background who do all the hard work on scouting and analysis - and also the manager himself. If we identify people early and we identify the positions early, then we can do the work early. And throughout this year we have done that; in the January window and in the summer. That will be our game for the future - to be more prepared and execute well. And I think today is a great example of that.

"I feel like I'm in a bubble at the moment," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "For me Liverpool is a top team. I feel like I am dreaming and I want to enjoy it to the full.
"I feel very excited, I've never felt so excited before but I'm very happy. I think I am the happiest man on earth.

"I was surprised [when Liverpool showed interest in me]. You never expect this to happen to you. But as the deal moved forward, I became very happy and I wanted to come to Liverpool.
"I have come here to enjoy moments with the supporters - and I know the supporters will help me to never walk alone.
"I hope that between us all we can make this club one of the greatest in the world, once again."
Alberto is a versatile attacker who learned his trade at Sevilla's Academy.
He broke into their B side in 2009 before being handed his first-team debut in April 2011.

The 2012-13 campaign saw Alberto complete a year-long loan switch to Barcelona B, where he notched an impressive 11 goals and provided 17 assists in 38 appearances.

The Spaniard, who can pick a devastating pass effortlessly, has a knack of drifting into goalscoring positions - and he believes he has all the right attributes to slot seamlessly into Rodgers' side.

"I came to the club because of the manager," explained Alberto. "I came here because of the style of football he plays.
"I don't have a favourite position - it depends on the team's tactics really. I like to move about and I don't mind where I play.
"I like to play with freedom. I'm a technical player. I provide assists and in the penalty area I score goals."

I'm going to Binny this. I think Ryan will like it.

That Ayre interview doesn't make much sense. 'He was top of our list in terms of his ability and skills in the position he plays'.

What does that mean? That a Barcelona B player is our marquee attacking signing of the summer?

Why cant i edit my own thread title you fucking NAZI'S!!!!?

I want it to read 'Luis Alberto - SIGNED fap fap fap - Fuck you Doc Mac, fuck you right in the face'

Make it so Nazi's!!

My first thought on seeing this photo was why the guys would make him pose holding the same kit as the one he's already wearing.

Haha. Indeed. I think it was meant to be held showing the other side with his name. There was a photo where he was signing at the back of the jersey under his name.

Is this really calling for a fap? I'm barely at a semi here.

I don't think it's fapworthy, but it does make me look forward to the season that bit more.

He's an unknown quantity and there is at least the hope that he could be great.

I like the fact that Rodgers identified him and we've scouted him all year. It means he's going to be unstoppable.
