Henderson wouldn't be a candidate for his position anyway. The really interesting question is what we'll do about DM in the January window. IMO we need another DM, even with Lucas staying, to provide another option in that position as we don't have one in the squad. Whether Klopp will see it that way is another matter though.

He has been Boss..

On Henderson's return, I would Drop Milner.. Not this fella..
It's pretty simple really, Henderson isn't a defensive midfielder and neither are Can and Allen.
Henderson and especially Can are box to box midfielders while Allen is a mystery.

Didi Hamann wasn't a defensive midfielder when we signed him from Newcastle.

Neither was Lucas, but they can both read the game better than Henderson. We've tried Henderson in that DM role and imo it's been with mixed results. He covers a lot of ground but he doesn't position himself well.

We could try Can as the DM. Perhaps with less options available he can hopefully choose the fucking right one more often.

That's our only Lucas option imo, but he needs to cut out those marauding runs leading to nowhere in that case.
The decision to not sub Lucas in that Chelsea game worries me a bit. Klopp's explanation was that we didn't have any other option and people quickly presumed that it only affected Allen, but he could have subbed Lucas for Allen and moved Can to DM. Unless Klopp also doesn't rate Can in that DM role.

I think that's a very good point about him reading the game well. Can hasn't shown enough when it comes to this yet and it's not too surprising as experience counts for a lot in that position.

Actually I'd be chuffed to see him tried out a DM. He harries and tackles a lot, he runs from start to final whistle, he can pick out the 30 meter pass and it's a lovely position for captain to control his team. There were incidences like a Newcastle game a few years back where he pushed a player 20 or 30 meters with his chest until Coutinho stepped in, swiped the ball a ran on to score or assist, another where he harried a Arsenal or Spurs player along the halfway line until he tripped over himself and Henderson took the ball and charged uphill to make a goal. He was involved in a high percentage of our goals last season but we scored very few goals and I'd prefer to see the CM positions left to the likes of Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, usw. with Henderson clearing up behind them and feeding them the ball.

If we continue with the 4-3-2-1 formation then Henderson can play next to Lucas and Can.

Lucas has been very good this season but I'd rather have Schneiderlin and Matic over him in a heartbeat.
Hopefully he'll keep this form up but we'll sign a dm and a quality one aswell.
If Lucas manages to stay in the side then credit to him.

Which he would be right not to do IMO. Some on here seem to want to put Can there and use it to educate him as a footballer, but to me that's @rse about front. When he's more mature as a player, try him if we really must - I wouldn't, but there you go - in a position which demands that kind of maturity. Until then, play him further forward where he does his best work, currently at least, and quit trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole.

His tackles lost is the highest, because he's attempted the most tackles. His tackles won percentage is firmly in the middle of that lot.

How is the defence score calculated?
