Lucas to Corinthians?

Status
Not open for further replies.
The fact that that Kuyt was voted player of the season in his first year for us (on the offal, and Morse's forum poll), suggests he was more than decent. He did have a bit of a drought during that first season, but looked bright and confident (and, as always, busy) for much of the campaign. Personally, I took to him, and it would seem that the majority of LFC supporters thought he was our best performer that year.

He can't be compared to Lucas in that regard, at all.

I think there was divided opinion on him, and his 2nd season seemed to compound some of those fears. It still took until his 3rd season for us to see the best of him, and this an expereienced 28yr old, so the point is still valid. For it to take an older, more weathered player 3 seasons to hit his best, why not a young Brazilian?

I'm not comparing their ability nor particularly slating Kuyt, just making the point that it can take time for players to adjust and that occasionally a bit of indulgence can be rewarding. The more valid comparsion I'd make is that neither player seems to let adversity effect them and both are good solid pro's.

I think people are unfairly judging lucas, the majority of time he is tidy, keeps the ball ticking over. I'm not arsed about his physique as that is something a few protein shakes will cure and he as also shown an eye for a pass. what age was alonso when he arrived here, imagine if he were here at age 20 having not establishing himself in the AM team. he class would obviously shine through but I he would have found it hard if there were two utter quality midfielders ahead of him in pecking order, he would also have had a slighter build and lastly he would have had less experience to draw on.

Yes, but in his first season, whilst opinion was divided, he was good enough to be rated our best performer based on ratings of the games throughout a season. So he must have been pretty good, in fact, and adjusted to the Prem pretty damn well, straight away. His second season got off to a stinker, but as we all know, he was destroyed by the loss of his Da. Even then, he finished the season very well, and was our top scorer in Europe, all despite learning a new position with the arrival of Torres. Again, not too shabby, and worthy of some indulgence you'd think.

Lucas, is younger, and no doubt deserves more sympathy than some have afforded him- but I don't think he deserves the sort of faith that Rafa gave to Kuyt, as I happen to think Kuyt had earned that faith over the first 2 seasons, even if he hadn't won over all the supporters until his third season.

Kuyt was never our best performer in his first season.
Im one of his biggest critics but at least and unlike Lucas, he runs an fights hard.
Lucas is not good enough and will never adjust to the Premiere League
The sooner we get rid the better.

He was according to Morse's poll.

kuyt was average, people liked him because of his work rate. even last season there were plenty of games where his shortcomings were clearly evident. but he is what he is and especially against flair teams he has value.

lucas is shit and if he leaves its a blessing. he has shown far less in his 2 seasons with us than other more talented players we have got rid of

Well the majority of fans clearly disagreed with your perspective. And let's say the supporters who voted, week-in, week-out, were wrong- he was still patently pretty good to deceive voters into thinking he was playing consistently well.

Well I like being in the minority 8)
He was dreadfulf in the 2nd part of that season...It made me cringe when Crouch was subbed after his good performances midweek and then see the invisible Deadly.
Lucas is just shite.

I don't believe he started at the point he was at last season, I think last season saw a marked improvement. To me he had an indifferent first season, and poor second and an excellent third.

The point was that it's taken until his 3rd season for us to see the best of him, and unlike Lucas, Kuyt is a player with a few years International experience behind him and a player who is in his prime years. Lucas is a kid who's come from a completely different culture and league.

Your point about Kuyt not hiding also goes for Lucas, for a kid who's taken so much flack from the stands and has been thrown in at the deepend at times, I've never really seen him hide on the pitch or let his head drop.

We've also gone to place like OT and bossed their midfield, you don't do that with a passenger in there. 'Quietly efficient' might sum up his role when he does play but I don't think he deserve half the derision he receives on here, and all from the same posters who seem to think Danny Guthrie was or Jay Spearing is the answer.

He's a kid who's done relatively well and one more season wouldn't do us any or him any damage. He's seemed all too willing to adapt and try to improve by recognising where he's falling short and addressing it (like working on his strength pre-season), he deserves the same level of indulgence that the likes of Kuyt has had and then maybe, just maybe, we'll reap the rewards. If it doesn't come off I'm sure there will be a few takers.

Good post Mark.

I second Gene. Whenever the forum goes overboard on criticizing a player, we can always count on Mark to bring in some much needed sensibility.

Lucas is not as bad as he is made out, but he is not ready to replace Xabi in the first team. It is a very long shot to even hope that he will be able to rep;ace Xabi in the near future. But the role he plays in the team is that of a first understudy...and he is good enough for that role.

Is correct Mark.

Lucas is a good player.

I'm gonna watch this space VERY VERY CLOSELY once the season kicks off and Lucas goes back doing what he does best i.e. being shite.

Filling Void = Lucas (maybe)

Signing Defour AND Aquilani sounds very ace indeed!

Well I mean namewise that is since I've never actually watched any of them play.

Btw, anyone else think this is gonna be a long thread as well?
]

you've seen defour, when liverpool played standard liege he was the black rip who was pulling the strings for them. A seriously accomplised performance from one so young.
Defour isn't black.

Thanks for that Neil - any other miraculous observations?

I'll continue your theme; if Carra gets injured there will be a void at CB....this void needs someone to fill it. Someone usually steps up to fill it . Being the only current options that person will either be Skrtel or Agger (whoever isnt playing alongside him at the time).

Jesus. Sweet. Christ.

Now Alonso's gone Lucas is going to turn into Zidane junior now, isn't he Spidey.

I'm excited for sure, I just wish it wasn't so predictable.

you can be phisecious if you want but if carra did indeed get injuried I'd fully expect agger and martin to step up to the plate. Alonso is a massive loss but you'd hope it wont hamper our ability to challenge.
