Thinks he owns the place

According to the Corinthians president, they've started negotiating with Liverpool regarding his transfer. He claims Lucas is interested, and Lucas is quoted in saying he knows Benitez plans and that they know what he wants.

So are we selling him aswell? And signing Defour and Aquilani?

Signing Defour AND Aquilani sounds very ace indeed!

Well I mean namewise that is since I've never actually watched any of them play.

Btw, anyone else think this is gonna be a long thread as well?

you've seen defour, when liverpool played standard liege he was the black rip who was pulling the strings for them. A seriously accomplised performance from one so young.

I can't think of many who will be too upset if Lucas goes.

bren?

I'll be very surprised if Lucas leaves. Benitez appeared to have one of his blind-spots for the young Brazilian, and it was difficult to imagine that ever breaking.

Maybe Lucas is fed up of not being appreciated over here? All our midfield wants to leave!

Benitez does seem to change his mind quite quickly though.

Sissoko was certainly a favourite for a while too as I remember.

I can't see Lucarse going anywhere - Rafa loves him.
He's the Brazillian Kuyt!

How the fuck is he? He's shit, Kuyt isn't.

Because Rafa relentlessly stuck with Kuyt when he was desperately out of form, although obviously Mors comment is now very outdated.

We're going to start the season with Mascherano and Spearing in midfield.

HOWWLLLL!!!!

As usual in such situations I sought the answer in the "Good Book" and lo it doth appear that this is indeed a done deal.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (New American Standard Bible)

4Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,

5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,

6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;

7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away and be receptive and rejoice at offers of £6m+ for the useless Lucas.

Kuyt was pretty shit for a longtime, it's only really Rafa's massive indulgence and his conversion into a wide player that's seen us being rewarded with a blinding season from the lad.

Lucas is about 6 years younger too.

I thought kuyt started superbly with his debut season, suffered a horrible slump in his second season (death of his father would probably go a long way to explaining that) and was largely excellent last season. I don't think any comparison can be drawn between lucas and kuyt, however lucas does have time on his side.

I don't think he was 'superb', he played most games and gave a 'decent' goal return. I remember largely being disappointed after being led to believe by many that he was a classic striker who would score alot of goals for us. Despite a bright start I seem to recall there being much derision as the season wore on and it only got worse (for whatever reason) in his second season.

I like Dirk but it was only last season that he really won me over.

In fairness to Lucas, I think he's steadily improved since he got here. I just don't think he'll ever improve enough to warrant a place in our starting eleven.

12 league goals in a debut season is better than 'decent' marky (imho).

Players aren't judged solely on goals, and rightly so, which is why opinion is so split on Babel (and Cisse and co before him).

How many games did he play that season? He started practically every single one. I'm not saying it was a shit return, but I wasn't overawed by what I saw on the pitch.

The point is it's taken him a while to really get in his stride, and he's an experienced international at the peak of his career. Lucas is a kid from South America.

Come on everybody get down on your knees and prey

we can make this happen!!!!

P.S Roger mate, can you do us a favour and get rid of that little running skeleton thing at the bottom of all your posts please. Its very annoying.

Regards

each to their own but I thought a return of 12 league goals was an excellent, that's why I gave him slack when things went tits up for him in the second season because he is clearly capable of scoring goals.

well, this thread has gone off at a tangent 😀
back to lucas, anyone that can play the ball he played to gerrard v n'castle deserves 'some' patience, there is definately something there.

He's had 2 years already

One pass against Newcastle doesn't change anything. It's within everyone's interests he finds a new club.

Neil you just totally skipped my point. I never said it was a shit return, I was accounting for what I saw on the pitch. Was his goal return that different to Cisse's or Babel's, neither of whom have proven good enough?

I was talking about what I saw on the pitch. The shit touch, the lack of pace, the inconsistency infront of goal (for example). He played to his strengths last season and looked more confident because of it, and the goals have came too. But it's taken time to get to that point, and as said, this is a player who should at this stage of his career be at his best anyway.

a fair enough opinion, personally I saw someone who was prepared to run through a brick wall when the going got tough (often) and never hide. I really like these qualities in a player and while I conceed two seasons a go he was stinking the place out, he was still contributing. I still don't get the point you are making about getting to the level he is at now, he started at that level and had a big drop and is back at that level again.

I don't believe he started at the point he was at last season, I think last season saw a marked improvement. To me he had an indifferent first season, and poor second and an excellent third.

The point was that it's taken until his 3rd season for us to see the best of him, and unlike Lucas, Kuyt is a player with a few years International experience behind him and a player who is in his prime years. Lucas is a kid who's come from a completely different culture and league.

Your point about Kuyt not hiding also goes for Lucas, for a kid who's taken so much flack from the stands and has been thrown in at the deepend at times, I've never really seen him hide on the pitch or let his head drop.

We've also gone to place like OT and bossed their midfield, you don't do that with a passenger in there. 'Quietly efficient' might sum up his role when he does play but I don't think he deserve half the derision he receives on here, and all from the same posters who seem to think Danny Guthrie was or Jay Spearing is the answer.

He's a kid who's done relatively well and one more season wouldn't do us any or him any damage. He's seemed all too willing to adapt and try to improve by recognising where he's falling short and addressing it (like working on his strength pre-season), he deserves the same level of indulgence that the likes of Kuyt has had and then maybe, just maybe, we'll reap the rewards. If it doesn't come off I'm sure there will be a few takers.
