Lucas Going, Noooooooooooooooo

I fully expect this at Klopp's next press-conference:

"I don't usually comment on transfer rumors, but on this I will make an exception: nonsense! Lucas is staying and in fact he will be our player-manager from now on and also do double-duty as the club's beloved mascot. All hail Lucas now!"

If there's anyone in the team I'd rate as a U23 manager it would be Lucas. He might not have it physically but he's a leader and he definitely knows the game. Still think he's our most intelligent midfielder on the pitch.

Maybe your beloved Mourinho can buy him for your beloved Man Utd team to help them maintain their amazing form.

I think I'd fall in love with Lucas watching his imperious performances every week for Man Utd.

He would do a job for them for sure. Incorrect on the beloved on both counts

That might be stretching it a bit far - I wouldn't rule out coaching as he's obviously a good people-person- but he must be a bit thick the number of blundering challenges he has given away over the years in awful positions in front of fragile defenders and 'keepers

True, though those risks are what made him the most 'successful' tackler in the league for a good few years.

I think he can be a good influence for a struggling Inter. They might need someone like him with lots of experience and a good tactical idea.

He would do a job for them.

A job I'd love him to do - he's one of the few players on the planet that would make them slower.

It could well be that the slower pace of Continental football would suit Lucas down to the ground and he might be very successful.

Sammy Lee was a fairly average midfielder for us, but when he went to Osasuna, he was voted the top midfielder by Spanish fans.

Which also proves, if proof were needed, how utterly meaningless some stats can be.

I wish him well though. If he was never as good as his fan club here and elsewhere tried to make out, he wasn't as bad as his harshest critics said either.

But he was pretty bad eh JJ ?[emoji48]

At times he certainly was, old pal, but there were other times when he did OK. If he'd been a DM from the beginning instead of having to be converted into one later on, who knows - he might have turned out to be a good one.

There'll be tears as he loads the gas bottle onto the container. As he contemplates the empty patch of back yard with a grease stain that holds a million memories. As the ants wave him off, no more dropped burger bun crumbs. As he thinks about the herculean menu preparation he'd done for his testimonial BBQ (and setting the spare room up for Skrtel). And as he remembers his good game against Man City in 2011.
Bon Voyage sweet prince.

Has there ever been a player that's been here so long and got so few honours?
Almost 10 years and One league cup medal.
Embarrassing.

What's embarrassing is us winning 1 league cup in 10 years.

Countless finals lost/ runners-up to the title blown away.

Nah, he was a symptom of our mediocrity, not the cause, not all by himself anyway.

I guess you could say he's symbolic of a time when we desperately tried to believe that bang average players could be world beaters and much better than they actually were.

We've seen some incredible talents over the last few years - Hyppia, Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano, Alonzo, Suarez - players who could have and in many cases did grace some of the best teams of their time.

Lucas isn't one of them.
