Lucas Going, Noooooooooooooooo

It's almost as if successive professional football managers know more about players and the game than a load of random people on a website.
When it comes to his personality and impact on the squad behind closed doors, yeah, I agree, the managers knows more than we do.

On the pitch, I don't necessarily think so. I think in the case of Lucas there are loads of factors influencing and one is that the youngsters we've bought in, the Illori's and Plessis's of this world, has simply not been good enough or showed enough signs of improvement on a player like Lucas to be kept instead of him.
Lucas has been a fringe players for years and if we've had younger players of equal standards around but he's also had other important qualities in terms of influence, mentality etc. that has kept him around instead.

Also I guess the amount of interested clubs in Lucas has also had an impact. We might've been able to sell him on for £4M but then it would make more sense to keep him around as it's not easy to find a player that's working fine within the setup, a good pal that knows the club from the inside out that would also accept not to actually play as it is the case with him.

I as the majority on here knows a good to great player when we see one, Lucas is not one of those, he's decent at most - no amount of managers not moving him on changes that as fact.

Oh and another thing, when a few people, whether one is a manager, scout or random footie fan watches the same player they could all create a different opinion of the player. His value, potential etc. And not always it's the scout or manager that gets it right.

In example, we've turned down the likes of Dele Alli just very recently, a player that I understand posters on here saw at Wimbledon and got totally convinced by almost immediately whilst the ones having to decide on the matter for us chose differently.

I was totally convinced we'd make a bargain if we could get our hands on Eriksen when he was at Ajax but Rodgers/our scouting team/someone decided against him and bought Aspas and Alberto instead.

So yeah sometimes random posters on a footie forum actually 'knows' better than the managers/scouts whom are, after all, also only human.

I thought Stewart's emergence was the last nail in the coffin for Lucas but I haven't been impressed by him at all lately. I thought. I didn't think he played well at all against Plymouth and evidently Klopp still rates Lucas more than him.
Can is another enigma who seems to have all the tools to be a great DM but still lacks the discipline and positional sence to play there.
Lucas showed against Plymouth that he still has the ability to distribute the ball from deep. Played a great ball to, I think, Origi early in the game but he is soooo fucking slow. I mean it's painful to watch him run at times. However, based on the Sunderland game I'd rather have him playing in the defensive role than Can until Hendo is back.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has admitted he is frustrated sitting on the bench.

The Brazilian, who turned 30 on Monday, has made just three Premier League starts this season and has mainly been played out of position at centre-half by Jurgen Klopp.

Lucas turned down a move to Inter Milan at the start of the transfer window and feels he is still good enough to play regular first-team football.
"The situation is not great," he said. "It's not something I want for my future, to have not many games. But at this moment I have to deal with this and try to find a solution when I have the chance.

"I have to be professional, think about the team and see what's going to happen.
"I don't want this for my career, especially at my age. I'm not close to retiring and have many years ahead of me.
"You want to play - we get paid to play - but I just try to be professional and help as much as I can and when I have the chance do my best. That is the only thing I think everyone asks."

Lucas says his future remains uncertain, despite rejecting Inter because he did not find their offer acceptable.

But the South American, who is Liverpool's longest-serving player with nearly 10 years clocked up at Anfield, insists he remains fully committed to the Reds while he remains at the club.

"The best place for me to be now is Liverpool," he said. "I cannot say in one week's time, one month's time or four months' time. I have to judge when something comes up if it is better.

"I have a very good relationship with the manager and I just try to help as much as I can.

"It has been a special season already and we have a chance to win trophies and that is something I consider as well."

Wow.

Props to you Lucas for dealing with this like a man, when many in similar positions dont.

I've wanted Lucas gone for years. Never thought he's met the standards of a thoroughbred Liverpool player on the pitch why it has puzzled me greatly that he's managed to survive in the squad for so long manager after manager.. it's annoyed me even.

However he's obviously a great lad and he's been around for ages now so a part of me kind of never wants him to leave. Just wouldn't be the same without him anymore..
I really don't get this logic at all, if being good around the club was the main reason then the club could just hire some people to do that and not pay them $50,000 a week.

Lucas is here because believe it or not he's a decent player who doesn't complain about being a squad player and can come in and do a job.

Every club has them.

You don't survive 10 years because your a nice lad and do a good BBQ

He's by FAR the worst player to have played so many games, or lasted so many years at Liverpool. There's no competition.

Thankfully he's playing fewer and fewer games each season, and he's rarely if ever been a guaranteed starter, but even so, the damage he's done has been incalculable.

Did Dreamy miss the post a few before his quoting the article where Lucas is complaining ?

That's not really proper moaning, or a huge noisy complaint. Just honesty. And even that is rare.

And he knows the reality of the situation, which is why he doesn't really complain. He must fucking pinch himself every morning.

Ha I'm sure our sides in the 40's had worse players.

The core code of the Anti-Lucas-Bot.

No it wouldn't. I don't care what they think or say. I have my opinion about Lucas, and it's correct.
I am very sure they'd all say something along the lines of; reliable, honest, hard-working pro with a great attitude. That's Lucas.

When it comes to his performances, and his ability etc. it's just been a very large pile of average from start to finish apart from maybe 15 games at the beginning of the season four or five years ago, then he got injured and when he returned he was back at his 'level'.

I have to agree with Brendan, there's nothing left that we as fans has overlooked when he's on the pitch. He really should move on/be moved on.

I don't think any reasonable person disagrees with Brendan. He's just on an Arn comedown.

I think a reasonable person would support the player and not hope that he makes a mistake every time he plays.

I don't think anyone "hopes" he makes mistakes. That would be silly. And he doesn't need any encouragement in that department anyway, because he always does.

My hope is more that he doesn't ever play.

Yes, the short period of time where he wasn't a completely useless liability, and we were eyeing the title rather than being resigned to finishing mid-table.

And "if" he plays and "if" we lose, who's your first target?
