Lucas Going, Noooooooooooooooo

Did he have any end of match extra strolls around Anfield last night? Saying goodbye, taking it in one last time?

I suspect the fact that Klopp had Lucas on the bench last evening, and actually brought him on for ten heart-stopping minutes, tells us that all these stories about Lucas having a medical at Inter etc. etc. are total bollocks.

Lucas could remain at Liverpool despite strong Inter Milan interest

Long-serving midfielder will stay at Anfield unless Inter offer better deal

Lucas Leiva could end up staying at Liverpool this month – despite strong interest from Inter Milan.
Reports in Italy suggesting that the long-serving Reds midfielder has already undergone a medical with the Serie A outfit are wide of the mark.
The ECHO understands that Jurgen Klopp is prepared to sanction the exit of the Brazilian, but only if there's an attractive offer on the table which suits everyone.
That currently isn't the case with Inter wanting to take Lucas on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy but no firm commitment to make the transfer permanent.
Unless Inter change those terms then a switch to the San Siro appears unlikely.

Lucas, who came off the bench late on to make his 327th appearance for the Reds in the 1-0 win over Manchester City, has 18 months remaining on his Anfield contract.
Klopp had previously said that no members of the first-team squad would leave in January but he views Lucas as a 'special case'.
The Reds boss believes his decade of service to Liverpool and the manner in which he put the club first last summer means it would be wrong to stand in his way if the right move comes up.

Klopp asked Lucas to stay when Galatasaray made him a lucrative offer last July as he needed him to provide defensive cover.
Since then the 29-year-old's opportunities have been limited but his attitude has been top class with Klopp viewing him as a leader in the dressing room and a role model for the squad's youngsters.

The return to fitness of Joe Gomez means that Klopp believes Liverpool have sufficient centre-back cover if Lucas does move on this month.
However, if he decides to stay put for the rest of the season then the manager will be delighted to retain his wealth of experience.

Lucas deserves every last bit of bollocks that has been said about him in this thread.

I'm not really sure what it proves either, being asked to stay as defensive cover, if anything that tells us everything we already know. Great pro and reliable to bring on or to play in cup games, with all the same traits that have dogged his Liverpool career - steady performances often marred by a few minutes of madness, which prevents him being a necessity in the team. It's testament to the lad though that he chose to stay as cover, rather than go elsewhere and play more football. That shows how much the club clearly means to him.

I hope either way that the gets some recognition over the summer, by way of a testimonial or something else. He deserves it.

No one has ever questioned his character or attitude Modo.
With Witsel moving to China and tripling his wages I somewhat feel that football that I grew up watching is slowly dying. Lucas, despite his obvious limitations, is in my opinion a dying breed in today's football. He put his club first, even though he'd probably benefit from leaving and the only reason there's any talk about him leaving now despite Klopp stating that "no first team members will leave during January" is because he feels that he owes it to him.

Yes he has probably been part of the worst years in Liverpool's history trophy wise, but that's surely not on him. It's not his fault that the club was owned by knobs, or that the knobs hired a face rubbing joke of a manager. Not his fault that his knee was fucked during the best season in his career.
He's definitely been a victim of his circumstances at the club.

So despite no one questioning his character or attitude I still think that he on some level deserves a little less flack.

One of the best posts I've seen this year.

Decent post which only shows up all the more the overcooked nonsense you've posted so often on here

Lucas has played over 300 games for us. Which others have said just highlights the average standards we have accepted over the years. The fact that he cant get a game now just shows we're going in the right direction.

I can't disagree with that. Now that we have better players than Lucas in midfield of course he shouldn't play, but the fact that Klopp still brings him on in games shows that he still has a role to play, even though it's very very minor.

I wonder what Klopp's plan for Stewart is, because it's clearly evident that Lucas is ahead of him in the DM pecking order as well.

His plan is not going to be to keep him for a decade, allow the likes of Coutinho, Can and Lallana move on, gradually give more and more game time to him, make him captain at some point in return for his loyalty, and win nothing.

Lucas hasn't been played at DM for quite a while now. He may be ahead of Stewart in the DM pecking order but there's no way of telling that at the moment.

I hope Lucas stays until the end of the season and we end up winning the PL. Regardless of the level of his ability he has been a loyal servant and a model pro. I'd love him to be rewarded with more than a LC winners medal for that. Hopefully we don't need him to actually play that often though,

I like K-Stew - and he may still manage to have a role in this team (a rotational type player). However, he's as likely to get sold for 5-10 million in the summer!

I think Lucas is only ahead of him because he can play CB too.

His versatility is probably the underlying reason why he's being picked ahead of Stewart. But Klopp still plays Lucas in midfield, like when he was brought on against Man C.

Was Stewart even on the bench? It makes no sense to keep Lucas AND Stewart on the bench, as they play the same position. That Lucas can now fill in at CB probably gives him the advantage.

I like Stewart - as has been said probably not the right calibre but a decent squad player - he's certainly better option than Lucas as a DM and as he started out as a LB who's to say he'd not be as good or better as a CD?

Agree. Although I'd be pleased if he doesn't see the pitch again, I'd also be happy to see him get his testimonial and a winners' medal on his way out the door this summer.

Fair enough.

I hope he fucks off because he's fucking shite and I never want to see him again.

So people want to see a millionaire limited footballer who has won next to fuck all get a testimonial?
