Lucas Going, Noooooooooooooooo

It seems that in every era, there is a squad member whose abilities the fans argue about. Danny Murphy was a case in point. Some fans had him up there with Franz Beckenbauer, others alleged that he was a clueless wanker.

In my opinion, fans don't argue about really great players. They identify themselves as great players as soon as they run out on to the pitch for the first time.

It follows that the players the fans argue about can most likely be replaced with better players.

Outside of a few, I don't think anyone ever said Lucas was a great. He was good, and pretty solid. And he proved himself better than a lot of his replacements. I don't think he'll be hugely missed on the pitch at this stage. Bit he was definitely better than some say, and worse than some others say

We better have cover for CB.

When we signed Lucas he was described as "a box-to-box midfielder."

Benitez shut this kestrel in an iron cage labelled "defensive midfielder" in which he fluttered for years until all the creativity had been knocked out of him.

Rafa turned Lucas into a "nothing" player.

When he has been asked to fill in at CB he has always done his best in the role but his best is seldom good enough.

In some ways I am sorry to see him go, but none of them are really anything to do with football. Like some players we've had, he's good to have around the dressing room, he's a nice lad - is good with settling the South Americans, yes all that, but none of that can justify having him in the squad. That said thank God he's going if nothing else than to reduce these endless Lucas threads.
Woland hit the nail on the head we might actually win something now- back in the very earliest days of this site when it was not much more than a foetus, I said we would never win anything while we had Dirk and Lucas in the squad - I meant it and look to be proved right [emoji48]

Are we determined to loan our deadwood until their contract expires and then just let them go on frees?

You said he has proved to be a disaster because he was part of a joke defence in that game, if that's your arguement then everyone is a joke.
Lucas has been good this season when called upon at CB and should not be sold, we have fuck all cover there

Maybe your beloved Mourinho can buy him for your beloved Man Utd team to help them maintain their amazing form.

I think I'd fall in love with Lucas watching his imperious performances every week for Man Utd.

I fully expect this at Klopp's next press-conference:

"I don't usually comment on transfer rumors, but on this I will make an exception: nonsense! Lucas is staying and in fact he will be our player-manager from now on and also do double-duty as the club's beloved mascot. All hail Lucas now!"

I see the sense in him going, and I know he's never been the most talented player in the team, but some soppy part of me is sad that he's going. Good luck wonderman!

I know where you're coming from. And I'd really like to feel the same. But all I can think of is:

Yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

You say that like it's a bad thing Modokay [emoji48]
It's more about nostalgia now than what he can give us on the pitch. He's the only remaining link to the Alonso era.
Also think it's a bit sad that Klopp doesn't necessarily want him to leave but he feels that he has to in order to play.
