Ah I missed the second half, well I missed it all apart from the first 3 minutes.

We may have got a result, but that was some embarrassing shit from us tonight.
[/quote]

Embarrassing would be getting beaten. It was just a bit meh.

It's embarrassing IMO because we are the 6th ranked team in UEFA's rankings and we were playing against a team that won't even be in the rankings. Against Juve, Roma, Marseille or another half decent team left in the competition then it would have been as you say a bit meh, but given the opposition we should have wiped the floor with them. Forgetting the game, the fact that we played this stupid 4-2-3-1 at home against them is rather embarrassing.

Look, they came, they parked the bus, we won, fuck it.

Just got in from the match, god that was fucking painful. 451 against a team with 5 at the back we where never going to break them down with one up top. I am sick of it, rafa grow a set and go for the jugular. Aqua nice passer but a right shithouse when it comes to getting the foot in. Nearly cost us a goal as well.

masch again was a monster again, if only some of the other players showed as much heart as him. Riera was non exsistent. Wash was just simply poor he is just to light weight and playing up top on his own is never going to work. I berate Babel but he showed a bit of directness when he came on. Pity he can't do that all the time, although sometimes he reminds me of Baros the way he runs into no where without looking up.

Pacheco looks the bussiness, he should be a starter he just has something about him. I would really throw him in against city. We need some enthusiasm to freshen things up a bit. He's always looking to get the ball and he seems to be able to find space for himself although some of our players missed this when selecting the passes tonight.

One thing i noticed was Aqua was getting quite a bot of stick off some of own players when they came out for the second half. He does look like a dejected man at the moment.

Yes, football is entirely black and white.

That's prolly my main gripe, against that team it should have been 2 upfront (3 if we had any bloody pace, but we don't so...).

I'm going to try and make this as simple as I can:

Playing 4-4-2, or any formation with two up front, doesn't automatically make you 'more attacking'.

Thank you.

To be honest i would of went 3-5-2, similar to when we went up to Newcastle and tonked them. I know 442 doesn't necessarly making your more attacking but 4-5-1 at home makes you considerable more defensive.

:🙂

Give over Ryan. They were shite and there for the taking, it's just we were shit as well.

Forgetting any other pro or con of playing 4-4-2/4-4-1-1/4-2-2-2..... It makes it a damn sight easier to score goals, you don't have 2-3 defenders marking a 21 year old if you play 2 up front.

Except we weren't really playing with a 4-5-1 mate.

'5' implies a midfield bank of 5 players, which wasn't on view tonight anyway. Gerrard played more as a forward than a midfielder, and Kuyt spent most of the night floating around the box.

Playing with more players 'up fron't would have walked right into their hands even more than we actually did.

Personally, I think we would have been better with more personnel and quality out wide. Against shit like they were, stretching them across the pitch opens up space. I hate to say it, but Neil's "attacking fullbacks" was what we were crying out for.

I really don't know where to start with that.

If you disagree with that, then I wouldn't bother starting as I'm not interested. 1 up front works when the forward is world class or is a bloody good target man/when the team supports the attack. N'gog isn't world class/target man and the best we can muster for supporting an attack is 1 man in the box and Riera lazily doing a power walk towards the edge of the box. If you play 2 up front you split the defence, what is hard about that?

The annoying thing with our 5 in the middle is that rafa likes to have 2 holding midfielders regardless of the oppostion. He seems to be fucking petrified of losing at the moment. Yes he had Gerrard bombing forward but thats all there was. Riera totally let the side down he was really awful.

Kuyt literally did just float round the box all night, and thats all he done. I am not a kuyt hater neither. I really do think the tactics where totally wrong tonight.

*shrugs*

I guess we can't all have the interminable knowledge of football that a sunday leaguer has.

I thought the tactics were fine, and the first 11 bar one or two was fine. We were just insipid, slow, and going through the emotions.

I got really excited with the way we started; Gerrard bursting through with that chance in the first 40 seconds. If we'd kept up that intensity and tempo, we'd have raped them. We didn't, hence the fucking bore-athon it became.

"If you play 2 up front you split the defence".

That's your argument. What is the point in me even bothering to debate attacking systems with you if that's what you think?

No that is me expanding upon you "don't get 2-3 players marking one forward" that's all that is, which is all I set out to do. I am not suggesting that switching to 4-4-2 means the goal floodgates open or that we'll suddenly look like Barca at their best, but it would mean that a 21 year old striker doesn't have to try and beat at least 2 players all of the time and will in turn result in a few more goals.

Missed the match, couldn't get a link up and running at work.

Sounds like I didn't miss much at all.... saw the goal just before - nice assist from Pacheco 🙂

Watched Panathinaikos vs. Roma instead - Mirko Vucinic's goal was tops.

Ngog should never play with his back to goal. He looks good when he's attacking it.

That chest down and control was good though.
