No need to make it personal, boys. Hendo has been great this season, but honestly today I thought both Hendo and Wijnaldum could have been a bit more adventurous today, especially in the first half. I understand it's hard trying to find a way through a defensive wall and there is a natural inclination to play it safe when you know a slightest inaccuracy in the pass will result in a loss of possession because the opponent has covered all the spaces. But if you look at Barca, for example, who are very used to playing against parked buses, they are not afraid to take chances and when you lose possession it's almost better because then you can create a chance through pressing. I thought Firmino and Can played exactly in the right way against a tight defense – adventurous and unpredictable.

The NBC commentator also kept berating Matip for not running forward with the ball enough or passing too conservatively, which I thought was a bit weird since his main job is to defend. But he did have a point in that it would help in a game like this to have a powerful player who is difficult to dispossess making runs from the deep and distorting Sunderland's shape. Emre Can did this pretty well, but against such a deep wall you might need 2 or 3 "battering rams" – I was actually thinking that it might make sense to bring on Ejaria at some point.

I was a bit frustrated by Henderson too. He was excellent on the defensive side but I thought he could have offered more going forward and prodding the play. In these type of games, I'd have switched the positions of Hendo and Can, and have Can prompt play with his bursting style and Hendo further forward giving and going, pressing and on the end of passes or making that final ball.

I also got annoyed at the chipped slow balls straight down the middle into the box. At least put some fucking pace or bend on them!

Henderson passes today:

The assist for Origi's goal isn't even on that.
So the virgin who made the graph may do it again.

This must be the first half. I saw a stat that Hendo alone made more passes in the first half than all Sunderland players combined.

Our central midfielder in keeping the game ticking shocker.

All well and good being critical of our players but not after that performance.
Thats just having an agenda.

You'd think we lost reading some of the comments. Just fucking enjoy being boss without the negative bollocks.

My bad, the first one was before the goals.
This one covers the entire game.

So 4 chances created from our deepest midfielder (and for lots of the game our deepest player, as he actually sat between the CBs).

And thats so bad? If your darling Lucas was playing in that position would you expect more?

Id expect more arrows pointing forward

You're ratings were shit.
We won 2-0.
Get over yourself you boring gimp.
That's your opinion, it's not just me who thought he didn't have a good game, while you henderson apologists think he's the second coming.

As you said though, we won 2-0, lets not be too harsh on the negatives.

Ps stop trying to be a keyboard warrior. You just come across a cunt.

Yep. Christ that map makes it look like no players were in front of him for 90% of the game.
To be fair, that graph also suggests he created 4 other chances. I don't expect everything to be forward either, but to me it does seem like he plays it too safe too often.

Sure, I'm not expecting him to play it forward all the time either.
It annoys me to see him play it sideways to Lovren and Matip and have them move the ball forward. It happens too often.

Anyway Modo. We better stop, the Henderson fanboys are getting upset claiming we have agendas.

We won 2-0, we aren't going to win every game with flair. Let's enjoy our run.

I think it is safe to say that we actually did very well today - considering the 10 men defense. I have no idea why Phil Neville thought Klopp was being disrespectful to sunderland when he said it was the most defensive team he has ever seen. I thought he is straight to the point and at no point suggested that teams should just come out and try and attack us. I think the stage has been set now in the last couple of games - no team is going to try and attack us in any way except Man City who I think will attack based on their coaches philosophy. I just hope that the next team defends with 9 men and not 10 - we may score earlier that way. Fucks sake.

I feel like Henderson did a bit of a Deschamps today. Sat behind the play and kept things ticking over. When the opposition are camped like that you need someone to sit at the back to start the build up, not charge forward Can style. He didn't hit many through balls and did too many 1-2s with Lovern that go nowhere. That's the thing that people notice but other than that he was OK.

On MOTD Phil Neville said it was "a bit disrespectful" for Klopp to say Sunderland was "the most defensive team he's ever played against." I think he's right though and maybe it doesn't hurt to point out when the teams come to park the bus – maybe we will see less of this if the press get on their back just a little bit (and we keep winning, obviously). Sunderland's formation can be most objectively described as 6-3-1 – 4 centre-halves, 2 full-backs, 3 defensive midfielders and 1 striker:

I do think the midfield 3 of Henderson Can Wijnaldum struggled at times...particularly first half. We all know Henderson is the more defensive of the 3...but Can and Wijnaldum looked a little lost and neither seemed to know who should be most advanced. Kind of got in each others way and it was a bit too congested at times....credit to Sunderland for that as well, I suppose.

I do like Wijnaldum though...he's much stronger than I though, gives us a bit of a physical presense in midfield.
As for Can, I just don't see it with this lad...don't know what the fuss is about.

a quick google and i got there in the end. We have a ruthless mentality right now which is great to see and something I've not seen since I can remember. Perhaps its the German mentality rubbing off on the team but all I'll say is its fucking great. So lucky to have Klopp, we are moving in the right direction.
