I think we need a player like him AND a top quality attacker. We're seriously short up front.

That might be a bridge too far this window, but I'd agree. Look at this lot 😡

A lot of shite football is enough to produce goals against us, unless we change something significantly from last season.

Last season our out was that we could outscore those goals. We can't do that at present. I'm worried.

Well they won the charity shield last year.
We lack ... well we lack something and someone like Suarez in our team this year.

We've seemingly gone a long way in addressing squad depth, but there's no use having that depth without it backing up quality. Get a top quality forward player in (are there any available?) and we'll be looking much better. If we don't, I can't see us getting top 4.

Exactly. We haven't tightened up at the back (the new signings may do that, they may not) and our main attacking force has gone. We could get by when we had Suarez. I don't think we can now.

It's their 4 strikers I'm mainly looking at with complete jealously, just one like those would make us a lot stronger.

If we had their front line we'd finish top 2 most years. Goals win games. We're not great at dealing in them at either end if we don't sort this out.

I actually think Lukaku would have been a decent option for us.

I am well and truly not worried at all about our upcoming season.

I think this tournament showed us, using quality opponents, exactly what our weaknesses are, allowing us to make another striker our No. 1 priority right now,

And it also showed us how Rodgers philosophy shines through and that we're going to be playing quality football regardless of Suarez.

Also, I believe all we need up front is just someone who will be mobile, what with our movement and system, we just need a guy to tuck balls into the net when Sturridge is injured, there's no need for a new superstar.

All in all, I have high hopes for this season and with an 18 men matchday squad that'll look something like this:
Mignolet, Johnson, Sakho, Lovren, New full back, Can, Gerrard, Hendo, Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling, Sturridge, Markovich, Enrique, New Striker, Lambert, Allen, Skrtel

We'd be unbelievably hard to beat and quite well balanced.

PSG are deadset on signing Angel Di Maria.

The only thing preventing them atm is that they need to sell players in order to do this.

It's time to bid on Cavani.

Lambert looks a painful mismatch to our side.
Mig still gives me the shits with his fucking woeful ability on the deck.

Our defence is still shit, sakho is dozy, Johnson not arsed... It's worrying there...

We are really gonna miss the ability to fuck teams up, AKA Suarez.

That said United weren't in it for near on 60 mins and we shudda been at least 3 up before they scored.

He may be a fruitcake but i'd have him over Lambert or Borini any day of the week. Besides Studge will always be .1st choice on the team sheet but super Mario as a back up or central in a 4-3-3. Yes pls

I thought we played ok.
We had no Lallana, Lovren, Sturridge, Flanagan, Markovic, Agger, all of whom are potential first team players.

My worry is the same as everyones of course.

Rooney, Van Persie, Hernandez, Wellbeck

Negredo, Jovanovic, Dzeko, Aguero

Torres, Drogba, Costa

Sturridge..........

Its really not good enough.
We absolutely need a top striker to come in. And I mean Benzema, higauin level of striker, not Lambert, Bony, Remy.

I liked the Lambert signing when it happened, give Sturridge and Suarez the carling cup games off.
Right now hes all we have.

To be clear on this, i LOVE Sturridge but he has made 86 starts since 2006.
If Mr Rodgers thinks hes suddenly going to not have injuries hes out of his mind.

The squad looks really good, lots of depth. We need minimum 1 striker. Probably 2.

I think the type of "striker" we'd need is one that is fluid and can interchange with the likes of Sterling, Markovic, Sturridge etc, and can pull wide.

For that reason, I don't think a player like Higuain would be the answer, nor Bony. I would have liked Remy as a signing if we got somebody else in alongside him. I think Benzema could do it, but he won't come here. And Reus would be perfect, but that's another pie in the sky signing. Sanchez would have been great, too.

There really is fuck all when you think of it.

Didn't see the game, but yeah we obviously need a striker and probably another forward too. Real shame about Remy, he would've been a big help at such a low cost. I called the Lambert signing bizarre at the time and nothing I've seen or heard so far has convinced me otherwise. I think he'll sink pretty quickly to a glorified mascot once the season actually starts.

We played pretty well for 60 mins. But yeah ive never understood the lambert signing from day 1. He's a average player who was at his level with southampton. We should be going for a lot better than him.

More or less correct. The Mancs took their chances, Henderson and Lambert fluffed their lines with golden opportunities, and that's about it. Neither side was outstanding, and both defences had suspect moments. Our midfield is clearly stronger, their strikers are clearly better (if we take out Sturridge), and both backlines will leak goals in the season without further reinforcements.

The silver lining for us is that we've got Lovren and Flanagan back at Merseyside and they're going to be key players for us at the back. We also have possibly Moreno and Manquillo to come, assuming, of course, that they can improve on what we have (the bar isn't too high though, is it?). On the other hand, Rafael aside, the Mancs have already put their entire defence out there, and it wasn't good at all - you can see pacy and mobile forwards like Sturridge, Aguero, Jovetic, Sanchez, etc. having some joy with them. Still time for both sides to buy players to plug holes, but I'll be more comfortable right now as a Liverpool fan, knowing that the fullback positions seem to be getting addressed now, and that the crucial move after that is to find the striking threat who can fill in when Sturridge isn't playing.

Thanks for that summary! Yeh, even without seeing the game, it's painfully obvious we need another striker, Lambert is going to take a while to get going as I think he's pressuring himself to do well as the move means to much to him. We'd be in such a better position right now if we did get Sanchez, hopefully someone of a similar ilk will happen, and Moreno and Manquillo prove to be good buys.

I'm hoping we see a similar team on Sunday with Sturridge and Lovren starting, we'll be much better with those two in the team, especially with Markovic ready on the bench. I'll be in the upper centenary too, so excited!

Of course we need another striker. We tried to sign Remy and it fell through, so of course we will be looking for a another. LAmbert is back up/plan b. it's only because Remy fell through and Studge is injured that he started. Do you seriously think a bargain basement signing is what BR is pinning his hopes on, of course not. We will sign at least one decent striker before the window is shut. Minimum.

It must be a difficult situation. There aren't that many great forwards available for a reasonable price. I'm happy for us to pay top dollar, but who is there? Short of buying an up and comer from Spain or somewhere, there's not really much else out there other than us having to fork out £20m+ on a player who might only, realistically, be a short term option.

We need a striker, but if we're gonna pay in the upper regions of 20 odd million, I want someone who is going to excite and comes with a bit of potential to be something, instead of the standard links we're seeing.

Loads of overreactions from both sides and obviously in the media.
The match means nothing. Its pre season.
We looked really good until 55 mins when they scored the 1-1 goal. After the the fitness levels were low and we subbed a lot of players. Utd scored from their 3 shots in the 2nd half while we fluffed our chances and didnt get that 2nd penalty.
Utd missed 2 players and we missed 4-5 and played without a striker for large parts of the game as Lambert was clearly tired.

5 games in 12 days in pre season. Dont know what we expected tbh.
Nothing changed either. We need full backs and a striker. A striker is a MUST.

Utd? Well, cant say I was impressed but then again it means nothing as its pre season. Their defence is shocking, midfield is light and they will points on having 3 attacking players high up on the pitch. That will get them goals.
They wont be as effective all season though and they didnt create much.
Shaw turned up for his big move looking like a tubby. What does that say about his attitude?
They need 2-3 quality players to get into the top 4. If they sign that they can do it but if not I think they're in for a long season.

Fucking annoying losing to them, but when you look at the team that finished the game it doesnt matter.
No new injuries. That was the most important thing.

I watched the 1st half and thought we looked good. Lots of good movement and fairly slick passing - Especially in midfield.

Yeah, I saw the first half and thought we looked very good. Went to sleep, woke up this morning and thought the same for 10 mins and then we lost it. Fitness levels, poor defending, shite deflection, loads of subs and whatnot.
In the end it means nothing.
