If I have read the thread correctly the upcoming season is going to be similar to BR's first season dominate teams but get fuck all as we can't score?

Yeah, if you take one game, with fringe players in a half arsed friendly, as an indication of what will happen over 38.

Has it not been the same in the other pre-season games?

I haven't watched any pre-season games, they wind me up.

We've played about every player in the squad against some very decent opposition.
We look nothing like the team from Rodgers first year.

I wonder if Teixeira and Ilori were injured; I think they never got any minutes on this tour despite traveling with the squad. Even young Phillips got a few minutes here and there. Ward is the other to not play at all. Of course, Reina didn't as well, but that one's a pretty clear case of a player whom we don't want to keep. Not sure what the point was in bringing him along though if we've already decided long ago not to keep him. Assaidi didn't make the trip at all, for example.

I only watched the second half and I'm not arsed by the result.

I have only one question - how did Martin Kelly become so abysmally shit? He was horrendous!

Mignolet and Sakho's passing fucked me off big time as well.

You should have watched the first half 😉

The passing was better aswell

Has anyone got a clip of that 10 seconds where Ibe beat about 5 Utd players? That was pure clas.

If it's the first clip in that Ibe video we're talking about, then I thought it was poor play and Utd defended it well. He was stood up, forced inside and we were eventually dispossessed while the momentum from our attack was lost. He had the chance to put the ball into the box or find a man and he lost it. I actually don't think he was great against them.

Problem with Ibe is, yes he beats players as if they're not there, but he just runs himself into cul-de-sacs and then wastes the ball, that first clip is case in point. Raheem used to do similar too, but with experience he's cut it out ands learned to use the ball better, I full expect Jordon will as well.

One part of his game I didn't expect to improve was his showboating, but my god he's a silky mofo. In the past, we've had the issue with Coutinho that teams could mark/kick him out of the game, which has in turn stifled out attack. Thankfully with Sterling maturing the playmaking side of his game, and with Lallana in the team, I don't think teams can afford to focus on him so much, I can see this benefitting him this season. In the games against the stubborn defences, having Sterling, Coutinho and Lallana behind the striker should give us more than enough creativity to break through, it's an excited prospect!

Ibe learnt a lot from his loan spell. He had to make things count in a relegation battle and he never went hiding, he fought hard and he set up some absolutely crucial goals that helped save the club from relegation. So I don't think he'll waste the ball much in serious games. In pre-season he's trying like mad to impress and sometimes doing too much at the wrong time. I'm not bothered by that.

Yeah he could've crossed it earlier but he made a decision to run at them. He did really well to keep possession. He passed it to Sterling who lost it.

That wasn't Sterling's fault. That move broke down because of Ibe.

That said, he's a good prospect, and should go on to do well.

No I never said it was Sterling's fault. He was put under pressure.

I just thought Ibe did really well to hold onto it, after missing out on the chance to put in an earlier cross. When he had the ball, there was no one in support that he could pass it to, and did well under pressure.
