Liverpool vs Everton - Offical Match thread

We played better than we have done for quite a while, but Lady Luck still isn't our best friend. We came back from a goal down though, and maybe the changing point was getting the penalty and scoring.

Should have gotten the all important second goal in the first half, and we would have cruised in a win. But, you can see what Kenny is trying to do, and now he has a full week of training before our next game.

Positive signs and a point on the board. Good allround play and the players looked like they cared. Torres looked world class again aswell.

Hopefully a couple of signings and Gerrard coming back will see us move up the table.

Fingers crossed.

Not the result we wanted, but it wasn't a shit performance overall.

Here's what I believe.

Roy fucked us up with (more than we were) with his shite tactics... 4-4-2 Sitting deep. Hitting it long, etc. Benitez team played 4-2-3-1, zonal marking, pressed high up the pitch.

It's why roy's appointment was wrong - the whole "but that's how I play" issue. We don't have the players to play the way be wanted to (thankfully) and he didn't have the ability to use the squad differently.

He fucked us.

Dalglish has to "re-wire" us, in many ways, and it'll take a few weeks.

It's working, but it'll work better with Gerrard & carragher on the pitch

2-2. Let down by shite defending yet again.
we conceeded from a corner that should have been a goal kick, was poor ref/linesmen that fucked up our 1st win
true, but it's splitting hairs that. we should still defend properly regardless, which we didn't - awful. i guess it highlights one of the strengths of rafa, organisation and defending, even getting ordinary defenders to defend well.
I don't think it does.

I think it highlights the fact that Rafa bought lots of shit defenders.
you could say that, but generally we defended well under rafa with ''ordinary'' defenders, he got the best out of them. i just feel it highlights his indepth approach to organisation and defending.furthmore we did have 2 very good DM in front of the defence, which obviously helped

Yep, agreed.

You have to say we haven't enjoyed any luck recently. Karma is paying us back for the season where everybody who tackled Xabi got sent off.

Yeah, only the biggest mong ever would question whether or not it was right to replace Budgie with Kenny.

But while we did show some commendable spirit, players like Maxi, Skrtel, Lucas, Poulsen, Eggnog, Konchesky et al are really fucking dreadful players, and while Kenny is weeding them out, he's been left with a very poor squad after Benitez's extravagances and mistakes, Budgie being The Worst LFC Manager in History, and the Purssslow under Hicks and Gillette making wrong choice after wrong choice, and not investing enough in the team.

So all in all, he's been left with an awful lot to do

Skrtel defending set-pieces is the biggest joke i have ever known.

How can he be showing his back to the ball every fucking time?

How long before we get Carra back please? Or why don't we start with the greek and Agger?

He thinks I am, but as usual he's wrong.

Poor the Brendan.

The lack of investment argument is a fallacy, we spent more than everyone bar Chelsea and City under Rafa and increased the wage bill by a bigger percentage than everybody bar City during that time.

At least he has acknowledged where the real problem lay.

Hard not to feel gloomy given it was a game that we really needed to win, and done enough in the first half to have won it. But there are positives to be taken, I definitely think we've passed the ball better on the last couple of games, we've pressed the opposition better too, and some of our players who haven't been playing so well seem to be playing with more desire. But we can't ignore the fact that our squad isn't good enough, we've got players we need to off load and need to bring in some real quality. I agree that CB have been a problem, Carra's our obvious talker/organiser at the back and we're missing him big time (note to the divs that have claimed he should no longer be playing). Positive to see so many youngsters coming through and most of them have done well too.

Like I say whilst we can take some postings from the game, bottom line is it's mid Jan and we're 4points off relegation.

the big difference is both chelsea and man city weren't forced to make sales to pay for their purchases. our improvement was only going to be incremental.

we've also made profits in the last 4 tansfer windows, how can anyone expect the team to improve under those circumstances?
I've had enough of both Skrtel and Agger.

Carra, the Greek, Kelly and Wilson. Sell the other 2.
If we sell them both, we need one more.

I want Subotic, in that case. He is fantastic on the deck and in the air. He is 6'4, and will do very well in this league i think...

The worst ever manager had a run of 7 games without win, with Torres, Gerrard and Carragher in most of the games.

To be honest it was 15 minutes of the Blackpool game and 15 minutes of the Everton game that let us down. Unfortunately we got punished by both of them, but things are looking a lot better. We can definitely build on the last couple of performances despite the results, which is something we never looked like doing under Roy.

Blackpool outplayed us for about 70 mins.

basically we need nesv to pour in a shit load of money that isn't dependent on sales (at least not right away) then we can sell the deadwood at our choosing and then use younger players to pull up the slack.

if our transfer policy is going to continue with our purchases going hand in hand with our sales we'll get no where and we may as well resign ourselves to midtable mediocrity (at best) with the only thing possibly bucking that trend is a influx of talented youngters who come into the first team and hit the ground running.

Kuyt, Torres and Lucas were brilliant today, special mention to Kelly and Spearing who done well on their first derby starts
