"The least said the better" is the best way to describe Rodgers at the pre game press conference today. I think that is the shortest one I have ever seen him give, they are normally about 16 - 20 min long, this one was a whole whopping 4 minutes and 33 seconds. Clearly the man is under pressure. I don't know how to upload it otherwise I would do but maybe someone can. It looks as though he may be getting coal in his stocking this year, perhaps he's been told that there is no money in the pot for January…..something has really pissed him off

He was beyond pissed off in that presser.

That said, if I was in a room full of people, most of whom had been publicly & actively trying to get me sacked I think I'd be pissed off too.

Being the best in a position where he doesn't have any competition, really doesn't say much

Considering, that he has Can, Hendo, Allen and Gerrard to compete with, I'd say that it's some achievement.

None of them are genuine DMs. Rodgers has tried to shoehorn them into the position, which is a very different matter. Lucas couldn't compete with them in their true positions either.

That doesn't say anything about the package for the player. It would be no surprise to find out we low balled the player and he is earning a lot more than we offered. All this London calling stuff is bollocks - a few extra million and I bet his Mrs would just go where she was told to.

Doesn't really explain why he chose to make himself sound like a total wanker, by stating that the reason he signed for fantastic Arsenal, was because it suited his Mrs' modelling opportunities.

He chose London because of what his wife said, all this "Throw a couple of million extra at him and we'll get him" stuff is just speculative nonsense. If we're going to judge on anything, judge on hard facts. He, we and Arsenal stated why he went there, his wage offers and transfer fee offers are widely reported. His ability to put his foot down with his wife, or be swung by extra money, isn't.

Soz, I didn't mean that to sound cunt-ish btw, I just think that he showed his colours with his comments. None of it was challenged either or justified, he stated it, we did and Arsenal did. Is there really that much difference between £3m and £5m or whatever? I think you're more likely to be swung at that point by other factors (like location, other players in the squad, glamour, etc), than how much more extravagant your bank balance is. That's not to say that there aren't people out there who just want more and more money than they can ever possibly spend, but I think often it's more of the former than the latter.

Mark, you are henceforth restricted to judging exclusively on hard facts.

Lucas isn't a genuine DM either. But he has adapted to that position. Truth is, Lucas is pretty decent. Like I've said before, none of our central midfielders are as intelligent as he is. He is more often than not in the right place and he is very disciplined.

Heh, I'm not saying you can't speculate, but if the guy came out and said we didn't do enough to get him, then fair enough. I just feel the circumstances of the deal, the fact we sold Suarez and the ball was in our court, suggests that the deal just wasn't on. When you add his and our comments to that, it just seems pretty obvious that he was one that just wasn't interested, rather than one that got away.

It did sound a bit cuntish but no probs😉
If you believe we handled it ok fair enough, and of course no one on here knows all the details. However, all I'm speculating about is our ability to go out and get a player. When we are in competion for our top targets we seem to get beaten more often than not! This London thing is just out and out total bollocks imho. Look at how City go about it - they offer top dollar and the players come. Of course we cannot compete with them finacially but on this occasion, having lost one of the best players in the world you would have thought the transfer committee would have backed the manager and gone out and got his top target what ever it took. The wifey thing is an excuse - it almost always comes down to hard cash with these fuckers

To be honest I wouldn't trust our transfer committee to go out and buy a packet of crisps.

Lucas may not be a genuine DM, but he's spent the last 6/7 years learning that position

You'd hope hed fucking be decent at it now

In fairness, most of the forum have spent the last 6/7 seasons suggesting every alternative, even Spearing for his role, and he's outperformed them all. It's obviously not as easy a role as some make out.

Undoubtedly he can be improved upon, but we haven't looked close to doing it yet.

Yes, Spearing...

That's true, but it's far more an indictment of successive managers and transfer decisions than it is a compliment to Lucas, decent player (when at his best) and good professional though he is.

Lucas is average.

But enough about him

Arsenal game. I'm going. We'll shit em
