Liverpool v Spurs Match Thread

To point 7 above, from LTW.
Spurs have become a close third in my hate league behind United and Everton.

If you ever read through their forums - just out of interest - it is clear that:
a) They are a bunch of hateful, fucking cunts
b) They think they are better than they really are

Oh shut up you tart, you take the fucking fun out of everything.

Im just saying, not much point taking the mick out of them now...especially given the run of form each side has been on.

If they lose in fa cup to blackburn and lose final to soton then maybe.

Great performance from the lads today, but what worries me is that I expected it as it was highly unlikely that spurs would park the bus, and teams that dont we usually play off the park. But there's only about 4 of those in the league. Big break now until the next one, hopefully they come out and have a go so we can tear them a new one.

Spurs are a dirty shower of twats these days. Do you think that comes from a former Argentina centre backs influence ?

A lot of teams take their lead from the manager, and Spurs certainly seemed very keen to get rid of that 'Soft Spurs' tag.

They've also got quite a few players with a nasty edge, like Ali Deli, but I quite like that. Gerrard could be a right dirty twat at times.

What they must find bemusing is that record against the Top 6 sides. I'm never sure if this kind of statistic is anything *more* than just a statistic; or is it anything genuinely missing in their make-up?

Whatever it is, they were abysmal yesterday, and apart from that record against other top sides, they also haven't beaten us for ages.

Although not many sides would have coped with that first half display, and it should be noted we tore them apart at WHL too, and they were very lucky to get a draw.

What is always going to be of concern though, is that without Mane we would have drawn that game and we are so wasteful.

Nah. You'd want your head out the way. It's probably the best use you can make for a short arse at a set piece.

Their record this season away from home is terrible, I don't know how they are 2nd really with such an abysmal record. 4 away wins.

Spurs have conceded more fouls than any other team apart from United 6th from bottom of fair play league and Watford, bottom.
Liverpool are second to Swansea and Spurs amazingly 5th. Few yellow cards which is a surprise - I think it demonstrates they are a sneaky shower of fuckers

I hope Lucas is gracious enough to apologise to that tweeter when does his usual fcuk ups. Well played yesterday but responding to the journo was unnecessary.

If he is doing that to defend low ground shots he might as well lie flat on the ground.

The same trick was used by Marcelo, the Real Madrid full-back, during Brazil’s 3-0 friendly win over Argentina last November – a game in which Coutinho played.

Marcelo was spotted kneeling behind the wall as Lionel Messi lined up a free-kick in the first half of Argentina’s victory.

Nor was it Marcelo’s invention, though. The trick is seen semi-regularly in Brazilian football, with one of memorable attempt coming from Ponte Preta in a 2014 Copa do Brasil clash against Parana.

Although Lucio Flavio, Parana’s free-kick taker, was discouraged from shooting low by a Ponte Preta player who lay prone behind the defensive wall, he instead curled an effort into the top corner.

They had one of the highest rates of fouls last year too. They make their cynical challenges higher up the pitch to escape cards. They're clearly trained to do it.

Doesn't seem to be any post-match thread, so I will put my always hotly anticipated ratings in here, although there's hardly much controversy or discussion; we played really well and Spurs were lucky to lose 2-0.

What is worthy of discussion is the achingly long and genuinely awful six weeks we have suffered. It cannot simply be that Mane is the difference between Liverpool playing like we did yesterday and how we did in his absence. Yes, he's our best finisher and the only player we have with any pace, but can it be that simple?

Whatever the answers, we all know that we need huge investment in summer. But the ratings are for the Spurs game, and we dominated utterly in the first half, and then choked them off in the second. They were second-best all over the pitch and their manager acknowledged as much. It's always great to get a win over a team who usually finish above us, and hopefully we can make the Top 4 finish a certainty rather than a possibility over the next few weeks.

Mignolet (8) Much discussion that his predictable fuck-ups would mean a recall for Karius, but Klopp kept faith, and was rewarded with a great display - caught everything and made two fine saves. He's not good enough as we all know and should be replaced in summer, but that's another discussion

Clyne (8) Full of energy and together with the phenomenal Mane, laid waste to the Spurs left side. Industrious and dangerous

Matip (8) One or two clumsy moments and one terrible challenge, and then turned into a hybrid of Hansen and Lawrenson, with some great forays into their half and several great interceptions, as he throttled Spurs

Lucas (8) He's not good enough, we all know that, but there is the occasional display that is worthy of comment, and he was well on top of Kane and company all game. He never gave him a kick and made several lovely challenges. Great stuff.

Milner (7) Much improved energy and movement, even if he wasn't quite at the level of his counterpart. Got stuck in, which is always nice to see too.

Henderson (8) Christ, why can't he do this every game? His physicality, work rate and movement were all great. Some of his passing was a occasionally rushed and aimless, but he took care of two Spurs players on his own at times. Bravo.

Wijnaldum (8) Another one who raised his game to a level that was simply too much for Spurs to handle. He bossed the midfield in the first half and made things happen with sharp passes and good movement. Faded in the second half though

Coutinho (7) Another player who gave a massively improved performance. He was always on the ball, or looking for it it, then turning towards their goal and trying to make things happen. Shooting was awful, but his radar seems to be slowly coming back

Lallana (8) Hasn't scored for ages, and has been sluggish for weeks. This was more like it, effervescent and aggressive, he gave Spurs no time to breathe or even move. Much more like it.

Mane (9) How we have missed his pace, movement, confidence and most of all, his goals. An unstoppable first half display of speed and precision, that Spurs could not deal with

Firmino (7) Some truly great hold-up play and non-stop pressing, he was far removed from the dismal, sluggish player of the last 6 weeks. Obviously didn't score, but he's not really expected to do so apparently, but this was a fine non-scoring striking display.

What I really liked about Gini yesterday was the physical side of his game - he bullied quite a few Spurs players, including Dembele at times. We need that from him, AND Henderson - who was going at it with Alli non-stop ...

I've really started to dislike Alli. Massive cunt. Hope that cuntish side to his game will affect his development.
