Liverpool v Manchester City Match Thread

I'm pretty sure every description of him before we signed him had it the other way around. A CM who occasionally played out wide or further forward.

The transfer would make way less sense if he was a winger (who got sent off nearly as often as he scored)
He wasn't a winger, but they kept playing him there I believe, he had a fairly free role though, which explains why he keeps running into manes area of the pitch for us from the centre.

Gomez has been nowhere near as effective as Trent out there.
I would bring Trent on for Lovren.

And of course I would bring Sturridge on for Salah.

The front 3 are playing with fear. It’s Troubling as I’m not sure we can hold out against city. The will probably score

Klopp has to find away around the block City have created since the 15th minute, we've not been able to play through them meaning the balls always stuck with VVD or Henderson.

HT thoughts:

* both teams are playing too slowly, with no urgency and giving up the ball constantly.
* We started really well, but overall - a poor half of footy. AGAIN, a fit and firing front 3 and our team looks great but they're really not 'on' and it's hurting the team.
* Props to JoeGo for handling Sterling.
* Keita needs to start playing with his regular mojo - no better time to announce your arrival than a game like this.
* Request for Liverpool in 2nd half - please play with some urgency. Move the ball quickly, have some confidence and destroy these pricks.

Both teams were poor in the first half.

True. But both teams work hard to not let the others find any openings. Look how deep they start their game to try to stretch our team and find some spaces. Impressive belief in their own quality on the ball that.

But the further the game goes it will open up more.

First 15 minutes looks so comfortable for us. We should bring it on in the second half.

Literally every article says he played centre mid. And he described himself as a defensive midfielder when he arrived here.

He just hasn't been any good

If you mean why we've taken our foot of the gas then you haven't watched us all season carefully enough.

We've trained on pressing & pushing teams in phases, so we won't go all out attack until about ten before HT if we stick to the usual game plan.
We did seem to press higher up around the 35th minute mark.
What's the rationale behind this approach?

I'd bring on Trent for Mane next. More width, Keita can occupy there too, and get Salah up front more

Whats wrong with TAA and what's wrong with clyne? We have tow very good RB and what forced us to start someone out of position? I seem to have missed a lot of news over the last three days.

Not been worse than Can IMO. Just not been world class or anything

Two managers who have schooled their teams brilliantly to nullify the opposition. As frustrating as it is for us it's almost certainly the same for them - except IMO we've looked the more likely to find a way through - can't understand the criticism of Salah, double-teamed he's still looking the most dangerous player on the pitch. Mane has been strangely quiet. Gomez has done brilliantly too - he's up against Sterling, Aguero and Mendy, I'm amazed at some of the comments here and wonder what fucking game you're watching !

VvD, Robbo, Hendo, Gomez and Gini all having excellent games.
