Liverpool v Manchester City Match Thread

City are not allowing us to play on the flanks, which means we dont have an outlet to release the ball each time we get the ball back.

This is a game crying out for a Stevie G to drive through the middle with those fast one-twos. Keita can play like that but right now he's like a timid mouse instead of the lionheart we thought we'd signed.

Two points - Mane is lucky not to have got a yellow (or more) for what he did to retaliate against the cunt (Fernandinho).
Bless Silva - great player (David) but he's a fucking whiney little cunt. Always moaning to the ref. Twat.

Salah doesn't quite track back as much as he has to leaving Mendy and Sterling to double up on Gomez.

It was the same against Napoli when Trent was massively exposed.

They have midfield runners and we don't , that's the only obvious difference between the two sides and their respective styles .

If we had of or anyone for that matter willing to run beyond their man itd help against this sort of deep lying side

Whats wrong with TAA and what's wrong with clyne? We have tow very good RB and what forced us to start someone out of position? I seem to have missed a lot of news over the last three days.

My guess is Klopp wanted him out wide to cope with the pace they have down that wing with Mendy and Sterling.

He wasn't a winger, but they kept playing him there I believe, he had a fairly free role though, which explains why he keeps running into manes area of the pitch for us from the centre.

In 2016-17 he almost exclusively played as a box-to-box CM in a middle 2 with a DM or another box-to-box next to him. Last season he often got pushed further forward as Leipzig didn’t have a consistent formation any more. But I would say Rocco is right - his comfort zone is CM. So far he’s been a passenger; could be the injury or lack of warm-up, but we definitely lost energy and thrust after Milner went off.

If Keita doesn’t improve at the start of the 2nd half, I would consider bringing him off. City have some powerful weapons on the bench; it won’t be easy.

Keita should be moved further forward and told to play with freedom.
He is hamstrung and he is a shadow of his former self.

Shaq x 1000000

Put Shaq at the top of the diamond midfield.

Trent was dire against Napoli. He's been deservedly dropped.

They keep the ball and move it around so much better than us. When our midfielders get the ball you know it is always going to the left or the right or backwards. We have very little forward balls to the front 3 in the centre, only the occasional long ball from the back. The front 3 almost had to make their own chance to have a shot at anything threatening.

We've been shite

Zero positives

They look like they're in second gear and haven't tried to go to third. We look like we're trying to go to fourth but constantly stalling

We've got a lot riding on Keita, his strengths are exactly what we are crying out for right now, but he's playing with so much fear, clearly still burdened by trying to fit into the team. I really hope he settles soon, I expect to see the best of him come Christmas, with only flashes until then, but christ we need him today.

Agreed. Worry for me is we spent 200m or whatever it was in summer and seem to have a Goalkeeper to show for it.

Yeah, I said the same last week. Total midfield overhaul and none of them good enough to actually get a game. And our front three have all been rubbish for the last four games, and we've got no options there either, apart from Shaqiri.

Neither side was particularly great in that half. Both playing within themselves and lots of unforced errors. I guess it a sign of the respect / fear between the two teams.

The worry for us is whether we have the ability to kick it up a notch as City probably will.

They look like they're in second gear because of us as well though, it's a difficult one, they've got the edge, but this could swing this around easily if we sort out shit out.
