Liverpool talk to Manuel Pellegrini

if it were a straight choice of pellegrini and kenny then I'd be torn. I want kenny as boss but the football villa real were playing with, let's face it, mediocre players (alves aside), was amazing.

I think pellegrini would actually accept Kenny as a sport director, where i.e. Roy Hodgson would demand soel and full control.

Not all average players. He had at different times Juan Roman, Sorin, Nihat, Senna, Capedevilla, Santi Cazorla, Forlan etc.

That would all change very quickly if results didn't go our way.

Well exactly.

Supposing we lost our first two games against Arsenal and Man City under Kenny, all this sentiment would evaporate very quickly.

Kenny is better seen through the rosy glow of past achievements.

Yeah, I recall Forlan, Senna, Pires, Capdevila, Riquelme and Cazorla. Alves played for Sevilla.

Most unusually, I disagree with you both. On the contrary, Kenny IMO would get more of a honeymoon period than anyone else precisely because he's Liverpool royalty.

you think so, even if he lost the first two games? I personally wont jump all over him but I think loads of people would especially the fans who are 20 or younger.

The answer to your question is yes. As I've also said elsewhere, he started badly when he became player-manager. I even remember an interview with him at the time in which he said he'd offer his resignation if it became clear he couldn't halt the slide. Any young fans who do start jumping up and down now will swiftly be jumped on in their turn by their more knowledgable colleagues, older or otherwise.

It's glad to finally agree on something, Jules 😉

But I think that's the problem; Kenny will get plenty of time, but is that something the club needs?

Ideally, of course we'd start with a bang and keep improving (not that I see any reason to suppose Kenny's less likely to achieve that than anybody else). If it turns out that we need more patience, though, so be it. Whoever the new man is, I'm prepared to give him a degree of understanding while he settles in. I don't see that there can be any other sensible approach after any change of manager.

I'm not so sure mate.

He'd get judged on where we are in the league (like any other manager). If we started off badly i'd suspect that it wouldn't be too long before people start to bring up "how long he's been out of the game" etc etc...

Well, there was a bit of that when the King first took over and hadn't managed so much as a Sunday League team before, and he turned it around in spades. Many fans will remember that, as well as the size of the task facing him now.

But I actually think that's less likely to happen if we appoint Kenny anyway than if anyone else comes in. The lift he'd give the whole club would be tremendous and I'd be prepared to bet that would be reflected in our form on the pitch.

I'm sure that Kenny Dalglish would have thought through the pros and cons before offering his services (if he has applied) and considered whether he was up to the job and the pressures it would bring.

As I've said before, he does not strike me as a sentimental, emotional or naive man and I'm sure he would also be very aware of the feelings of his family given past history, not to mention his own personal experience of the stresses involved.
