Liverpool related transfer speculation

Superb cross but it's criminal of Spurs to let a player run 60 yards up the pitch, into their final 1/3 with not a single player within 10 yards of him.

Only against Spurs will you see that, but again take nothing away from the pace and cross.

We get this situation quite a lot due to Salah being doubled on the other side

As someone who gets to see Brighton more than I get to see the Reds these days I truly hope our supposed interest in Joao Pedro is rubbish. His states look average but he is by far the laziest forward I have seen in years, strolls around, doesn’t track back, awful.
Nunez is far better, if we need a new striker it’s got to be A list, or stick with what we have.

Christ we need at least 2 new attackers don’t we.

Jota has to go - he’s unreliable fitness wise and he just doesn’t fit the slot striker role for me.

Nunez - everything points to him going.

Chiesa - will we keep him? If he can start next season fit I’d actually welcome him to keep a slot in the squad.

Danns got injured for the season at Sunderland. He’ll need a loan before he’s ready. Doak might be ready as back up.

But it points to needing at least one central attacker, but probably two. Huge summer coming up - with defence for me still being more important.

We're going to need more than two attackers.
Also we're going to need better reserves so we're not forced to play a DM in defence. Or a CB at right back.
Watching Mabaya and Nallo play just showed me how far off our academy is compared to Chelsea, Arsenal, City and the rest.

I think we have great players in the academy just in places it’s risky to bed them in. Quansah is an excellent prospect still. Nyoni looks like he’ll be the real deal. Kelleher is best back up keeper in the league.

Academies comes in waves, in 2-3 years our squad will be full of others like McConnell, Baj, Doak, Koumas, Pinnington (who seems to be incredibly highly rated CB), Rio, Danns etc.

Out of of those 8 players, I can see 2-3 making it.
We have two players currently in the England youth teams, Nyoni and Rio.

It should be 2 starting attackers, and 1 youth project.

Nunez is gone, Jota may as well go, Diaz might go, need a salah backup and ideally we need more than gakpo.

We're not going to change a whole attack in one window - who does that?!

Why not? We did it with the midfield last season
Que? None of our starting midfielders came in last season.

Gravy came in 2023/4 but only became a starter this season otherwise was VERY lightly used.
Szobo came in 2023/4
Macca came in 2022/3

So effectively one per season.

It becomes a needs must kind of thing. I can see 2 going at least, meaning we need similar, and arguably improvement on the ones staying

Salah will stay. Diaz will stay. I can see Jota going because of injuries and unreliability and Nunez going because we want the Saudi money (amongst other reasons) ! That seems to be a responsible turnover to me.

I think Diaz will heavily depend on bids. Half expect Diaz and Nunez to go, and Jota to run his contract down and be a hugely bit part player.

3 forwards (2 starters/strong backup and a youth) isn't outlandish.

Cheesy is likely to go. Slot doesn't even give him cameo roles

Didn't we sign 3 midfielders in one season after losing Milner, Hendo and Fabs?
Gravy, Szobo and Endo??

Whether they started playing all at the same time or not, the question you asked is who changes the attack in one windows, and we did have to change our mids in one window because we lost most of them at once.

You can't assess Pep L's transfer strategy to Hughes. We simply don't know what will happen in the window. No one has penned a new contract yet.

All 4 of them came in the same summer, 2023. I don't think we will wholesale change the attack, but the precedent is there for the midfield.

If I had to bet we'll buy a proper striker to replace Nunez and then do one other. I can see Jota hanging around even though he's almost useless at this point.

Changing them all at once obviously refers to the starting lineup - not two squad/backups ! The fact Slot has reinvented Gravy is neither here nor there as he wasn't considered a starting player back then.

Yeah not convinced either way. Clearly there is something there. We may give him a proper pre-season and then see - keep him or ditch him just prior to the season starting.

I literally posted the dates above and no not in one season but over two.

Endo is missing from the above : he came in 2023/4 season but as a backup. Only one starter that season (Szobo) and only one starter in 2022/3 (Macca).

They may be infinitely less talented than Neymar, Messi and Mbappe but I liked PSGs attackers.

Dembele, Kwara, Barcola - all energetic attackers who are good in 1v1s and work just as hard defensively as they do offensively. Doue, Ramos and Kang provided decent back-ups too.

I'd hope we try to keep Mo and Cody, but the other 4 can go. Diaz, Nunez, Jota and Chiesa (useless).

If Mo leaves, then maybe I'd keep Diaz or Jota around for 1 more year.
