Liverpool related transfer speculation

Actually… you missed Sesko - or is he no longer flavour of the month.
You are right he does go on the list. I just want to see if we get any signings right? If Salah resigns we could lose Nunez, Diaz and Cheesy. It would not surprise me if Hughes signs players who isn't on anyone's radar like Mika Biereth who since signing in Jan has scored 7 goals in 6 games for Monaco.
Hugo Ekitike
Isak
Pedro
Cunha
Delap
Mateo Retegui
Oihan Sancet
Nico Williams
Davids
Sesko

Right, so Hughes and Edwards are not likely to spunk money on players with low sample sizes - the data nerds won’t have it.

You know what we’re looking for - 22-25 yo, been playing regular football in a top league for 2-3 years and in the upper percentile of what ever stats they’re looking for.

What they won’t be doing is compiling a list of every player that’s scored in the last 6 months and playing celebrity death match until they’re left with one or two.

It is so hard to truly think about striker targets when our current crop of #9s are either injured all the time or just plain turd. The bar is low.

I'm not convinced Cunha is an option, but he would be a brilliant addition as there would be limited learning curve. Isak would require us having budget to also get areas that are in dire need of a rebuild - at full back & CB depth.

How do you know all of this? I don't know anything of who and what Hughes will look for, so it wouldn't surprise me if he took a gamble on a youngster. He will have had a season to compile his targets, and I am keen to see how many players he goes for that could be classed as 'diamonds in the rough'.
Its going to be interesting summer.
My priority is he gets Salah and VVD signed up to contract extensions followed up by Konate.

Out of Isak, Sesko, Pedro and Cunha, I think the best fit based on our current squad is either Cunha or Pedro.
Isak and Sesko need players in midfield capable of finding them in the box.
Cunha and Pedro can also play as false 9s.
So they'd work better with Szobo and our inside forwards.

List all the players we’ve signed in the last, well, pick a length of time, but make it not past when Edwards was in charge.

Ward was his protege and Hughes is like-minded.

Sure there’ll be tge odd outlier (Thiago, Endo) but really look at the other players we buy.

There you will start to see the patterns are, experience and also we like them to have played in Europe already, rather than sign directly from outside of Europe (so don’t get crying when we don’t sign direct from S America, Africa or Asia).

I haven’t read Ian Graham’s book, but you probably should.

Also, Hughes isn’t at Bournemouth where he can “gamble” on youngsters no-one’s ever heard of - the bar is higher now, so don’t expect “project” players - that’s what we pay Brighton & likely Bournemouth good money for - to develop them.

Where we will go for young players is U18 - but that effectively rules out overseas players.

We’ve been through this, 18-21 year olds are generally over valued, not ready to hold down a regular spot at a top team and are riskier in terms of whether progress or not.

If we are lucky enough to get 70 odd mill for Darwin and ship him off to Saudi, then Isak should be the main target.
If Newcastle can’t agree a new contract and if they miss out on CL.

Isak seems to cope fine having tons of space between himself and the midfield. He’d fit us like a diamond encrusted glove. I see a different player in Cunha but could also fit us like a regular premium brand glove. Which is testament to our flexible way of playing.

The problem with having Isak, is that we have two inside forwards looking to get on the score sheet themselves. At Newcastle their attack is more focused on him.
Look at the video I posted in the Szobo thread. That's going to be Isak.

I agree with this. We need system players, not the best player in that position (weirdly). Isak would be lovely, but does he fit what slot wants?

[Sayed Nabawy] Antony reveals he almost replaced Salah at Liverpool: "It's true... I was very close to signing for Liverpool, but nobody knows what would have happened."

Oh wow...

I can see us signing:
RB
CB
LB
DM
RW
ST

I expect will leave

Kelleher
Trent
Gomez
Tsimikas
Elliott
Chiesa
Diaz
Nuñez
Morton

If We're doing the fantasy manager game where everyone is always wrong, that should be minimum €150m of sales from that lot, and only two are regular starters.
Kelleher 30m
Gomez 30m
Tsimikas 10m
Elliot 30m
Diaz 60m
Nunez 30m
Morton 10m

That’s 200m

I’d add Jones for 30m, Bajcetic 10m and Doak 10m

We sign
Huijsen 55m (I think that’s his buyout price)
Wharton or Baleba 100m
Anguissa - Free
Aina - Free (to compete with Bradley)
Kerkez 50m
Leaving 100m for a top quality forward.

That would mean our net spend would be about 50m and we would have the strongest squad in Europe.

If Salah leaves it would create a problem but hopefully we sign him for 2 more years. I fully expect VVD to sign a new contract.

Not a chance in Hell we sell all of our squad! 10 players?!

Huijsen by all accounts is a big deal but this is his first season playing proper senior football, right?

I think we fuck his development bringing him to Liverpool now. At that stage, you really need another season or two playing regular football.

I promise I did not hack his account.
We offered £15m for Doak, turned it down.
Gomez is staying, we need a player that can play all along the back 4. CJ is staying as he will be the only scouse as part of the 1st team after Trent leaves.
Players that will leave are imho;
Morton £15m
Kev £35m
Diaz £40-50m
Nunez £60-70m (Saudi)
Cheesy £25m
Robbo/Tsimi £5-15m
Gordon £5m
Ramsey £5m
Elliott??? If he goes its £30-40m

We could loan him back to Bournemouth for one season with a caveat that we can recall him if we have an injury crisis.

Why are you not convinced Cunha is an option? He just signed a contract with an escape clause that was immediately made known to everyone. He's absolutely an option.

I buy him and let him stay at Bournemouth for another year. Consistent playing time, decent fee, and we're not rushing Bournemouth to replace in a rush. Both sides (ideally) would be happy
