Exactly, I am struggling with that too, first thing I look at when we are linked with a defender is he at LEAST 6ft3 and bordering on 6ft4....I just want the eventual VVD to look like and have the presence VVD had now. Yep, I dont really put faith in French attacking talent although I think Barcola is good. However they have been producing good defenders and CM's.

Here's a little xenophobia for ya, I think we should be careful when it comes to these french-north African 5 aside/futsal type players. Mentioned it before but, Benrahma, Assaidi, Taarabt, Ben Arfa, Zyiech didn't last long. Only outlier here is Mahrez.

Zidane and Benzema also pretty giant exceptions. But I know what you mean, many of these players look great on the highlight reels, but fail to deliver consistently on a top level.

Salah is North African too (although not French) and he is almost the exact opposite of a Taarabt in every way.

North Africa is huge land mass covering at least 5 countries, not really a fair assessment. Signing French players has always been a risk with reference to their attitude but that's gamble you pay.
Cherki at £25m is probably worth the gamble. The fat fuck would need to lose a few pounds.

He had several years at Lyon without much interest or good performances. That career nosedived before he moved to Roma.
