Liverpool related transfer speculation

David Hancko on if he could have moved to Liverpool: “I was in contact with Slot but he immediately told me that it was not possible. #LFC have a certain transfer philosophy. Age was one issue, the other was price. Both factors were negative for me.” [@VI_nl via @Sport_Witness]

He is only 26 though ?

How about Berger
Mate that was so long ago it does not count. Besides most of those German clubs are frauds, I figured out now why Pep is having such a hard time....you see Bayern took many Dortmund players while they had their basics of pressing etc coached into them by Klopp...if we buy players we should as part of our background rate them by the coaching they have had as well. The success of Shitty in this last era basically was stable because of Gundogan, where does Pep find his next batch of midfielders ? He is fucked.

He can find them in Spain and Portugal like he's done before

Mate he's been doing it for 8 years. Why won't it work now?
He has been lucky. He wont do it now, what he has to do is build an entire midfield like Klopp did in one transfer window. Our team last season should have won the league, but for fucked up finishing.

I have no idea. Coming from the Dutch league being one of the best defenders there...at least £40 mill
Most of these leagues are shit compared to the PL, they should quote all their best talent for under 30M

Lucky?
He brought in Rodri to replace Fernandinho.
Brought in Dias and Akanji to replace Laporte and Otamendi.
Got rid of the best left back in the Prem in Caicedo and still kept on winning.

Of course there's been some duds as well. Philips being the most notable one.

When the system breaks down those players cannot stand up by themselves. Also he was lucky coz some of those buys were transitional in that he could phase out players. Currently he has low to zero scoring wingers, aging midfielders with no legs or just unreliable. Its bad, he has to do a complete makover.

Also just adding, I said many years ago when it appeared their dominance was killing everyone - that this league unlike any other top leagues in Europe always has an answer. Well he is getting it now with the new generation of coaches , I always wondered why teams just dont push their front men against their defenders with overloads and balls over the top, well they have finally woken up and doing it with athletic teams. Thats all it takes to break his system.

And despite all this, the same team won the league last season and got to an FA cup final.
It's simple, they lost Rodri and it has completely destroyed their midfield.
Everyone had them as favourites to win the league this season.

I have added to my last response.

He got lucky while Klopp was here. He knew Klopp well enough that Klopp would run his team into the ground. The way we are playing now is not too unlike the way we played in the season we won the league...control well paced not basket ball football. But you just knew its not the sort of shit football Klopp likes.

Ah that team has been in decline for 2.5 years. Their inbounds have not been good enough (22/23 an absolute disaster in terms of who left and who arrived, bar Haaland of course). Over the past 2 seasons age has also been catching up with some of their players (injuries and legs) and this season they have fallen off a cliff (and Gundogan returning has been a foreseeable disaster) just as Hendo, Mane and Fabs did.

Letting Palmer & Alvarez go were imbecilic moves, maybe Porro too. De Bruyne is 33, Walker 34, Gundogan 34, Silva 30 and another 7 at 29-30 all of whom will need replacing in the next 2-3 seasons. There is a massive transition job pending. Bobb their sole bright star.

They lost or sold Fernandinho, Sterling, Aguero, Sane, Kompany, Laporte, Mahrez etc. and replaced them with players such as Grealish, Akanji Doku, Phillips, Grealish, Nunes and Ake. Alvarez for Aguero but then let him go !

I'd give Gvardiol a bit more time to come good.

Overall there is a clear drop off in quality there. Pep is clearly to blame for this demise and long may it continue !

Yeah… but they’ve signed some top quality legal eagles instead - who needs tippytappy football when you can litigate the fuck out of everyone.

I don’t see Lord Panic missing open goals or mistiming his tackles and those whipped in arguments are a thing of beauty!!!

It's wild that if pep trusted his youth more that his team would have been in much better shape. The main argument I suppose would have been that they've been so focusing on appearing to maintain ffp for a few years That's they've missed out

Spot on, there's a lot of former City players doing the business in other leagues.
@Squiggles just mentioned Dortmund's Nmecha in another thread. Guess where he used to play.

Yup, he's one of the ones I noticed a while ago. Bynoe-gittens is another

In other words "I don't want you at Liverpool, you're not good enough"
