I'm do wonder which clubs might be interested in appointing Benitez if he left us you know.

Any club working on a constrained budget certainly wouldn't want him. Not only would he struggle to spend the money they do have wisely but he would moan and play his silly media games. That side of his time with us may well have put a few other owners of clubs off.

Big clubs with huge transfer budgets would probably not have to deal with his moaning too much but then if they had a huge transfer budget would they go for Benitez really? Has he even really proven himself in the transfer market even when he has had a huge budget?

There are reports in some papers saying that Inter will approach Rafa if Mourinho leaves.
[/quote]

In today's papers there is no mention of Rafa. Touted names as possible replacements are Prandelli, Spalletti, Mihajlovic or even Hiddink and Guardiola.

neither here nor there, all clubs care about is whether the manager has proven he can win stuff especially at the big clubs.

If a manager spunks millions and millions on shite players I'm sure the club will be bothered, even if he wins the odd trophy.

So I doubt any clubs who might consider themselves contenders for the title in England will ever want him then.

Inter contact Benitez

Initial contact between Inter Milan and Rafa Benitez has taken place. Inter technical director Marco Branca has been in touch with the Liverpool manager him to ask him if he would like to take over at the Serie A club.

Rafa will need to decide soon. He is still waiting for signs of a good reason to stay at Liverpool - or a major offer to convince him to leave. Inter Milan would be enticing, but Rafa`s first choice is to remain at Anfield. The problem is, nobody at Liverpool is willing to guarantee him that any money he can raise through selling players will be reinvested in the team – nor is there any evidence that funds available from the board will be sufficient for the squad rebuilding that is urgently required.

Should Benitez move to Serie A, he would inherit an ageing Inter squad with many senior players mirroring a brand of football in Jose Mourinho`s image and with just two genuinely creative midfielders in Sneijder and Cambiasso. Benitez would need money to spend and an injection of new blood should he decide to make the switch.

AC Milan have also made contact with Rafa`s agent on two occasions now, and an offer from Inter`s rivals may hold greater appeal than following in Mourinho`s footsteps after a season in which they could have won everything possible.

I think the bold part is the problem if there's any truth in it. He will be fucking about until Inter sign someone else.

It's pretty obvious he's desperate to stay, otherwise he'd have gone to Juve while he still could. It's equally obvious he's not going to get what he wants out of the club in terms of guarantees over resources. How that particular logjam will be resolved, goodness knows.

I fear it will resolved by Rafa seeing out his contract and us being unable to fire him.

Maybe we're in a stand-off with Inter. With Mourinho having decided to move on there's a chance that he wants to be our saviour (as Hunter has intimated). Inter (according to Ballague) are targetting Rafa as a potential replacement, but don't want to have to pay us compensation to take him out of Anfield. Similarly, we don't want to have to pay Rafa (and his staff) off to go.

So Inter (resigned to losing Mourinho) want Rafa but don't want to pay us for him.
We want to sack Rafa (but not pay him off) and want Mourinho.

Who blinks first?

Depends. If H and G take the view at any stage that financially there's more to be lost than gained from keeping Rafa on (in terms of the damage it would do to the club, hence to its sale value) they could still bite the bullet and fire him or do a deal on the compo.

All believeable except the bit about Mourinho coming to us. He'll be off to Real Madrid after the Chanmpions League Final.

He made a comment about winning everything in England & in Italy.. so in his head he'll have to do Spain next.

It's probable he'll go to Real. However, I wouldn't quite say it's not believable to think he'd be pulled in our direction. On a heart level, few, if any, clubs stir the blood like ours. His oversize ego would also find the challenge of reinvigorating a squad inherited from Rafa quite appealing too.

Rafa is too stubborn to resign and looks more likely to stay. Mourinho by all accounts looks like he is off to Real. G&H won't sack Rafa because of the payout. Rafa won't walk away because of the same reason even if he asks for a table and they give him a lamp!

Graham Hunter - There are two things standing in the way of Mourinho being the next Real Madrid coach. There is a consortium in negotiations to buy Liverpool football club who are speaking to him and want to replace Rafa with him if their deal goes through .........................other non relevant reason......................other than that he will be manager of Madrid'

She might do, but then she might not.

Anything is possible.

Not going to happen. Any of it. No consortium. No Mourinho. It won't happen purely on the basis that it's good news, and nothing positive happens to us anymore.

*Hopes that he has done enough fate tempting*

So if the press are to be believed, that's Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan who've shown serious interest in Benitez. Europe's minnows then.

SCM thinks he's a "fucking useless cunt" though.

...or maybe a few posters on SCM think that, despite many wanting him out of Anfield.

Rafael Benitez's options should he leave Liverpool this summer narrowed on Monday after Juventus, who had been pursuing the Spaniard, closed in on appointing Luigi del Neri as their manager.

No goodbyes yet: Rafael Benitez waves to the Anfield crowd, but he could still be at Liverpool next season after Juventus decided to look elsewhere for a manager Photo: REUTERS
The Turin club had offered Benítez a £3.5 million-a-year contract over four seasons and promised him a £60 million transfer fund for this summer alone as part of an ambitious plan to take Juventus to the Champions League title by 2013.
Just two weeks ago sources at Juventus had suggested the deal was done, but Benítez failed to give the Italian side a definite answer and missed a series of deadlines set by the club to declare his intentions.

The arrival of Beppe Marotta as technical director, to be confirmed tomorrow, heralded a change of policy for the club’s incoming president Andrea Agnelli. Marotta, presently working alongside Del Neri at Sampdoria, expressed a preference for an Italian manager. It is also believed Juventus’s patience with Benítez has been running thin for some time.
Benítez’s future at Anfield, though, remains uncertain. It is thought he is unlikely to replace Leonardo, who left his post as manager of AC Milan last week after just one season, after the club expressed their intention to appoint a former player to the position. The Dutch duo of Frank Rijkaard, presently at Galatasaray, and Marco van Basten are believed to be the front-runners.
Benítez is also thought to be a contender to replace Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, should the Portuguese choose to succumb to the overtures of Real Madrid.
Inter owner Massimo Moratti is believed to be confident he can convince Benítez to overcome his reticence to replace Mourinho, with whom the Spaniard had such a fractious relationship during his time at Chelsea, after a season in which he has taken Inter to a domestic league and cup double and the Champions League final.
But with every day that passes and Benítez remains at Anfield, the prospect of the former Valencia manager remaining at Anfield grows more likely. The Liverpool manager has held two meetings with the club’s chairman, Martin Broughton, but it is believed no decision on whether he will stay has been made.
The longer the saga over Benítez’s fate drags on without clarification either way, though, the more uncertain the futures of the likes of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano will grow. All three are believed to be considering their positions.
